Cold flow test. Shows how easily or difficult the oil flows before it reaches operating temp. It's actually quite important.

As long as the engine oil is in it's viscosity specification, it doesn't matter. If you want/need thicker oil, go for 10w30. if you want/need it to be thinner oil, go for 0w20.

It’s important in colder states.

This is simply an easy test to make a video with that doesn't show any real result. Oil doesn't get to the bearings by gravity, it gets there under pressure from the oil pump.

Both left a film it looks like. Royal Purples is just darker due to the coloring. But also Royal purple has a bigger wear scar.

You know I for the first time used Pennzoil platinum and I will say I'm getting less oil pressure compared the mobil one extended performance I usually run..never tried royal purple though..

I was going to say. Royal Purple is great in literally any vehicle! Daily, racing or whatever. It's pricey for a reason. Definitely works!

Not to diminish what you're saying, because your point is valid. But for years I ran Walmart SuperTech oil and El Cheapo Fram filters in my '88 F-150. I didn't make good money and that's what I used. I sold the truck with 367,000 miles on it and it wasn't smoking and still ran good. I'm under the impression that any oil is good oil as long as you change it on a reasonable basis.

Worst oils? Check out all the analysis videos that shows penzoil a superior product. Ultra platinum came in second to Amsoil. Amsoil is a great oil if you want to spend the money and run 10k mile oil changes.

@@performancemotoring3798 amsoil is good. Penn ultra platinum is 95% as good. The only benefit amsoil has over it is change interval, but at double the price. I dont do extended oil changes, so amsoil is out. And the whole company has a scummy MLM feel to it, as evidenced by """distributors""" like you.

OK after looking at some of your other videos I would presume your fully aware of the things I mentioned but You should make a video summarizing oils and how they all start with a certain base, how the bases aren't all created equally, and how their differing detergent packages react to their engine(port/DI) and personal usage(enviroment/driving style). I think people could get some entertainment and education from that. I respect the hustle.

If you run a classic engine, you need Castrol GTX classic. It has a very high zinc content.

RP will win friction tests. Its just better quality base oils and additives also the HPS is high in zinc and phosphorus and i know the Pennzoil isnt. So.....

How they behave in winter is denoted by 10W which is the viscosity or weight behavior when cold. How they behave when warm is defined by 40 which is the viscosity or weight behavior when warm.

Heavier viscosity doesn’t equal less wear. You fundamentally misunderstand how engine oils work if you buy into this myth. Many other factors and varied application to application….

@nordicpride9708 typically the 5w50 are made with better wear protection amd thermal breakdowns. But tolerances on engines need certain weights. Although my engines are highly modified, and lots of boost and pressure. I run 5w50 in an engine calls 0w40. I also live in Tx and it gets HOT AF here. I also run a ceramic additive which is thinner than 50w and run a quart of it. Either way, never had an engine issue.

@@scottp6761 As I stated it varies. Wider bearing clearance, ring design among other things like high temperature (not ambient) will require higher viscosity oil. However, saying greater viscosity creates LESS wear is totally false. In one given engine, let’s use a 350 Chevrolet that calls for 5w-30 for example, running 15W-50 doesn’t somehow offer greater protection. We could get into a discussion on oil additive packages etc but it’s worthy of a novel. Again, oil thickness being greater does not equal more wear protection. Just lubrication 101. In a properly operating engine with a properly designed/operating cooling system, ambient temperatures in Arizona dead of summer or anywhere else have ZERO impact on an engine oil. But if what you are doing is working I say more power to ya man!

@nordicpride9708 coming back to this. Ambient temps have nothint to do with oil at all? Now we both know that isnt true. Especially for starting an engine in cold temps. Pour rstes are different amontmg different oils. I should say flow rates. Not sure why guys on modified engines also run higher weights. More heat is why. Also if you drive your car like a grandma and dont modify them. Use manufacturing spec. For my modified twin turbo v8 i need a thicker oil to hold better oil pressure, run more boost and protect on the heat side of things. I just feel todays oils under 5w40 are water crap. I like 5w40 diesel oils for any car that calls for 5w30 or 0w40. I also run euro blend oils from triax the euro VX which is compatible with diesels or gas. Has extreme protection in my ford edge eco boost. It calls for 5w30. Again this oil is fsr superior to any 5w30 out there.
