After all these years this is still my favorite ptx song. And of all acapella groups and the others are good but to me ptx is their own level. The most decorated, viewed a d awarded of any acapella group with 3 grsmmys and other nominations, they put acapella main stream and all the other groups can thank their existence to them.

No one expects to bop to a Christmas carol! It's always a kick to watch people react to this for the first time!

Yup...this is African influenced by Kevin who wanted to celebrate his roots. BTW...you do know that PTX just put out a new Christmas album last month and I think there's a song on there you really enjoy...not that you wouldn't enjoy the rest of the incredible music on the rest of the album, Holidays Around The World. But this one is again, African based and it's a version of Joy to The World and called Love Came On Christmas ( Joy to the World X Kumama papa ). It's audio only, but Pentatonix channel offers a visualizer.

their 'dance of the sugar plum fairy' is really upbeat and fun..and it has no words. they won a grammy for it.

Yep, you're not wrong! This is in the style of an African Spiritual song. This was Kevin's arrangement. I love it! It sounds like a CELEBRATION instead of a funeral dirge. I have no idea why most Christmas songs are so down. They should ALL be like this.

Despite the echoes of African, this is one of the songs that brings Christmas close to me. This also includes, for example, PTX's "Mary, did you know" I'm not a believer, but this can bring you back to church...

It's not you. Kevin added the African flavor to it. One of the things we sometimes tell people who ask us for suggestions of what to listen to next is "Think of a song that you hate, either because it's too boring, or you've heard it too many times, or you've heard too many bad performances of it, and type the name of that song into a RU-vid search box, but add the word 'Pentatonix' to your search. If they've covered the song, that will find it. Listen to Pentatonix's version of that song that you hate. It will likely become your new favorite." And when we say that, this is one of the songs that we're usually thinking of. "O Come All Ye Faithful" is a very old Christmas song. It's one that carollers like to sing, just because everyone knows it. But there is no more joyful arrangement of it that I have heard anywhere than Pentatonix's upgrade of it. I love the African vibe. I love the fact that it's almost impossible to listen to without dancing. This is the way hymns *should* sound, full of joy, and life, and movement. The sacred should make us want to dance.
