So when they see an animal WITH boundaries, it confuses them and they label them as mean and unaffectionate (the same way they would a person who sets a boundary lol). Cats have had enough bad PR, honestly.

so true! when i first got my cat my siblings kept badgering her giving her no space, always holding her even though she meowed. i gave my cat space though, i would just let her do her own thing even though i wanted to hug her so bad, would give her pets time to time if she was willing to let me , and give her food when she wanted some. i was the first person in my family that she took a liking to! she would follow me all the time in the morning when i was packing up for school and always purred against my leg. cats arent the mean monsters ppl label them out to be, they have bounderies too and you have to respect it
I've thought for a very long time that every child should have a cat at some point because they teach the concept of *boundaries* and *consent* perfectly. Some children have a hard time grasping those concepts (my daughter did) and cats really will tell you, very clearly, when they're not in the mood to be pet or played with and just want to take a nap. It doesn't mean they don't love you, they just don't necessarily want you all over them all the time. That's a very important lesson that children - and even some adults - need to learn.
Dogs need boundaries too they just express it differently dogs are more like extroverts and in an introvert so cats just don’t match with me their too similar to me also I just don’t like that they climb on everything
My cat lives for cuddles. Almost every cat I've ever met, I've made friends with, even if they're notorious for being grumpy. You just need to treat them like cats and not dogs.

People need to realize that cats aren't like dogs. They don't immediately think you're the best thing ever. Cats need time for you to earn their trust and respect. Once they trust you, they tend to be extremely sweet and kind.

christine mendoza Not the same at all. Dogs are pack animals, they are social. Therefore it's fairly easy for them to become affectionate towards strangers. However; cats are not social creatures. In fact they tend to form a bond with only one family member and only seek THEM for affection. Just like the Bombay; they are mostly the type that only gets attached to one owner of the household. Also people make the mistake of treating them like dogs; they are not dogs. They have different needs and need to be interacted with differently. Cats are much more high maintenance. This is why people need permits for different type of animals; because most people make the mistake of treating animals all the same when really the interactions mean everything. For cats; you have to carefully watch the body language. Dogs tails wag when they are happy or excited; cats tails wag when they are uncomfortable, sick or annoyed. See the difference? Furthermore it's easy for people to grow a bond with dogs because humans and dogs alike are social creatures; so we display a lot of similiar interactions. Cats are more for the quite and peaceful type of people.
Cats are so funny. Or any animals are funny but something about cats. Are most funniest I fell like there more funny cat videos then dog videos I don’t pick sides because growing up even know I have all sorts of pets but if I had to pick what animals is the funniest it would have to be a cat. I have my own cat and there are so many times she has me dying of laughter the things she does.
Ikr. Personally, if a cat doesn't want to cuddle I won't think it's a jerk or force it. I will slowly let it adapt to me. If it never adapts, that's more than fine, it's a living being.
Cats are just mini humans. It takes time to gain their trust. They can be moody for no reason just like humans can be. They can be extremely affectionate. They want alone time but sometimes they will gladly enjoy socializing with you.
Selene Hope, I agree with one caveat. Don't get an animal you aren't prepared to take care of. I like dogs but my schedule is crazy and I don't have the time to give one the attention and exercise they require. Cats are a much better fit. Other examples-a big dog with a small apartment, cats for people who aren't prepared to learn how they think,any pet someone wants because it's trendy or a status symbol. OK, rant done, LOL.
are you alright my Charlemagne is that way! If I'm crying hill run over to me and he'll be all concerned and he'll ask if I'm okayhe will call his head and meow in a questioning tone and sometimes put his paws on my chest around my shoulders and nuzzle me. He hates to see me upset! the only other time he does anything like this is when I sing. He loves it when I sing he'll start rubbing against my ankles and his little brother David will sing along with me lol
Update: Malerie ended up trying to adopt Karina, but her landlord didn't allow pets. In February 2021 she adopted a cat and she has posted pictures of her on her Instagram. I couldn't find anything on Alison so if anyone has any news regarding that then let me know!
Thank you! Personally I would try anything to keep the cat I love. Even if it ment trying to sneak the cat. When you have tears like that.......you have found your soulmate and must do everything you can to keep that love.

The cat is using you as something to sleep on... Its purring because it has a nice place to sleep. It's also offloading any dirt or parasites it may have onto your clean clothing 🙉
Cats are like little furry people, they have to get to KNOW you before they like you. That's why so many people don't like cats,they want to come up and pet and cuddle them and cats are like "wtf?! Don't touch me there, I don't even know you dude..." but give them time and they'll be your best friend.
Cats are actually very affectionate, they just show it in different ways than dogs. That's what makes them special, once you bond with a cat they love you and they show it. That's what makes them special.

Have had numerous cats in our house over the years since my bride of '75 pushed for us to adopt our first cat. I learned long ago that, while near a cat and facing it, blinking towards that cat calms them and diminishes their view of you as a threat; it puts them at ease. However @ 1:50, Alison blinks way too fast and much too hard for the proper effect. I look at cats with a lazy, almost dreamy gaze and blink slowly--not drawn out--but with a casual closing and opening of my eyelids. After a few blinks, you may notice a relaxation by the cat and you may be able to stroke it on its cheeks. I don't reach towards a strange cat (or any of our past and current (4) cats) with an open palm, which may indicate to the cat that you're about to swat it. I curl my fingers slightly and stroke them with the backs of my fingers against their cheeks very softly. They seem to accept that hand gesture over a flat, palm-forward hand. I was never a lover of cats in the beginning but, I am definitely a cat person now.

I love it! Same with my cat Binx. He always has to be on my lap or my boyfriends... if I yell ouch from stubbing a toe or something he literally comes running to my aide all big-eyed and meowing to make sure I am okay. I love him so so much.
My cat licks my hair as if it's cleaning it's own kittens. My other cat at night will come into my room jump on my bed and sit in front of my face meowing, which means she wants to get under the blanket. So I let her under and she then basically curls up in my armpit and sleeps there (While sometimes kneading into my armpit waking me up at times...oh and snoring very loudly lol) all night while under the covers.

One time I fell down the stairs and started bawling my eyes out. My mum came to help me and my poor cat just kept trying to see what was wrong with me. He wouldn't leave me alone after. He died 3 years ago. He was really sweet. He used to sit in the kitchen and read my school books if I put it in front of him. My mum hated cats and she fell in love with him. He was her son.
j mk Truth, I never saw myself having a cat bc I don't like that they may attack randomly but once the cat from a neighbor let me pet her belly i was like "welp, i shall now cry about not having a cat" I had multiple experiences with cats my whole life but that was one that I spent most time with (got to see her daily most of the week). I hope she's doing ok, I would go back to my last school just to get to see her everyday again. A cat lets you pet their belly is like finding a person that isn't "i hate cats/i hate birds/i hate this one animal that i had one single not very good experience so i shall tell everyone that I _hate_ all of that animal's family tree." j mk I have a lot of feelings where cats are concerned :p but yeah, it varies from cat to cat. I've met a couple who do like getting their belly rubbed but it's less common than cats that think of it as playing. If a cat you don't know rolls on its back and shows you its belly, you're probably best off assuming it wants to play (because then if you're wrong the surprise is belly rubs rather than scratches) or asking its owner. I'm glad you had a cat who likes belly rubs though, I hope I will too some day soon

Yeah, I have the clingiest neediest cat in the world, he has separation issues, and he cries if I don't pick him up and cuddle him like every 30 minutes. He also hugs people around the neck, and tucks his head under your chin against your neck, it's so effing cute haha. Sometimes I wish he was a little LESS affectionate lmfao. It gets to be a lot.

Exactly. Cats choose humans when cats trust them. Humans dont choose cats unlike dogs. Some dogs love you without even knowing you, which is most dogs. Being loved by a dog makes you feel good, but feeling loved by a cat makes you feel unique, like how you probably earned their trust.

I mean, I worked for my cats affection and love SO HARD but all i got was blood and scars and pain and pee. It was really not so great and since he sadly ran away (or was stolen or idk) we never had a cat again, which is kinda sad because I really like to have a cat buddy again. Gismo (the painful-to-be-around-cat) was maybe not a cat for me, but it was't our first and all our other cats where great and sweet and not scatching anyone without a reason. Well, my mum doesn't want a cat anymore and as long as I live with her I can't have one..

I feel like the only reason why people really hate cats is that they expect them to act like dogs. They're different species. They're not comparable and they act differently. You can't treat a cat the way you treat a dog and expect it to like you.
Indeed. Also, a lot of people are not good with reading a pet's body language, which is crucial for cats. If a cat reacts negatively, more often than not it's the human who (unintentionally) made the cat uncomfortable, probably by invading its space.
Not exactly, usually people who don't like cats don't like how they act, just like how cat people don't really like how dogs act.. So i do NOT expect cats to act like dogs, however i prefer how dogs act which i why i wont ever get a cat. I'm not gonna buy a cat even if i know how to treat it right, i know they are completely different, which is why i don't like cats. I don't like how they are but i don't hate the species. I volunteer at a cat cafe, and they use the same system with the “sassy cats” having purple collars. The sassy ones are my favorite because they give you the chance to work for their trust. Just like a human. Cats are definitely special.
I live how the lady said "dogs and cats show love differently" I am both a cat and a dog person. I have both a cat and a dog. They do love differently and neither way is any less affectionate. Peoples say "dog is a man best friend" but really, their love is more like a toddler, blind and unconditional. I dont agree with what you said. There are many stories about a cat that built up a relationship with a human that cant be broken easily. And cats are also very helpful too, they say that owning a cat decreases your risk of a stroke, and heart attack. A cat eases your anxiety. As long as you do nothing wrong, and just try to build up a relationship, thats okay.
Now this is my opinion, I think dogs and cats match with the personality of people. For example if you are energetic and love going out a dog is definitely for you, if you are calm and patient a cat is for you.
Also, dogs are aware that humans are a different species than them. Dogs behave differently with other dogs than they do with humans. Cats, however, don’t know that humans are a different species. They think we’re just big, less hairy, clumsy cats.

If you want unconditional, overbearing love, get a dog. If you want love that is earned through mutual respect, genuine care AND don't like to be smothered then get a cat.
My cat smothers me & if I'm busy, he dives on my back to remind me he owns me & he's really thrilled with himself that he's up on my back or shoulder 😂.

A cat in the room with someone who stares at them is in about the same boat as a human in the room with a mountain lion that's staring at them: if the big predator keeps staring at you, it doesn't matter what else it's doing, you're going to be nervous.
One of the biggest mistakes people make when trying to play with cats it shoving the toy in their face or right in front of it. Its actually *not* that the cat isn't interested, the cat has trouble seeing the toy when you do that. Cats are actually far sighted, things that are right in front of their face are blurry.
Also, they are night creatures. So most of the day they just want to sleep. It's not that they are jerks they just get more awake and active at night. Plus some cat needs are a bit color blind and prefer some colors over the other
Also if a cat rolls over and shows you their belly, it does NOT want you to stroke it, instead this is a sign of trust. A lot of people make this mistake, then blame the cat.

I hugged her and even tho she didn't like it she never turned to scratch me. She continued to purr and comfort me. Ppl saying that cats are evil or not affectionate are wrong if you find more about a cat she will like you. All you need to do is observe her and read the cat's body language.
The only reason people hate cats is because they're different then dogs in my opinion. Once you earn a cat's trust, that cat is there for you and purrs and personally cat's make me so happy. Dogs love everyone, but cats have something very special with their owner, and that's a real bond. Even though I love dogs, they like anyone they see, a cat earns your trust and then loves you more than anyone else which I think is very special. I hate it when people say cats aren't affectionate - mine just jumped up onto my lap and purred and practically rubbed her head all over my hands and chest, I eventually had to move her off me because I had to stand up. Just because cats aren't affectionate with you doesn't mean they're not affectionate creatures - they display it differently to dogs. Heck, if you bond with one enough they come when you call or if you're crying and try to cheer you up.
I'm Trying My Best I had my old cat console me one time I was crying, and when I didn't stop he lightly swatted at me as if to say "I've consoled you now stop". XD he could be really cuddly but got annoyed quickly.

The difference with dogs and cats is that you usually have to EARN a cat's affection (very well socialized cats can be very affectionate overall though!) , where dogs are usually affectionate to everyone. I personally find earning affection a lot more rewarding, it's a bit cheap to me when I see a dog running around wanting love from everyone. I still LOVE dogs, I will baby talk one and play with them, but as far as feeling a deep connection... owning a cat and learning how to bond with one has been endlessly rewarding.
True! I've always had cats in my life, never been a time when we haven't had at least two (it went up to eight once when one had kittens) so I know cats well, they're a lot more subtle than dogs, but if you know the signs, you can tell when a cat is fond of you

Shifty 14 - You shouldn’t have too much of a problem Honestly, it really won’t be that bad and after you start getting to know your cat, also learn your allergy’s limits. I don’t *not* do anything with my cats because I know what I can handle. As long as your airways do not feel restricted, you don’t have to worry about it. Personally, I try to avoid touching my face after touching my cats but if I touch anyways, it’s not a big deal. I might just get itchy. I try and avoid their wet noses because it does start a small area of hives for me. I also try not to kiss them too often because it makes my lips swell sometimes. The biggest part is that I just deal with a lot of sneezing and some irritation on my face. You also might develop a resistance as time goes on. There has never been a single month in my life where there wasn’t a cat in my household. My allergies were once a lot worse. To summarize, just get to know what are triggers for your allergy as well as what you’re willing to handle. If you’re nervous or hesitant about it, I’d suggest visiting a pet shelter/store with cats. Or even a cat cafe if you know of one. You can experiment a little and see what you’re comfortable with, as well as what cats would be good. I don’t recommend longhair cats but I think that’s a given haha

You have to earn a cat's trust. My cousin left without taking the cat he brought into the house with him. She used to be called by four different names(none good), one of them being Devil. You could barely pet her a couple of years ago without getting scratched. Not because she was evil but because she was scared of everything and everyone. After working with her she has improved a lot.(with lunch meat, lots of love, and time. She has become attached to me and greets me every morning and lays on my chest and purrs up a storm. These days she is called Devi.
Thats such a pretty name, Devi in Hindi it means "Goddess". Funny how a difference in one letter and culture make all the difference in meaning I hope you and her have a long, happy, fulfilling life together :)
I've kept rescues for a while now. It seems to me that kitteh needs the better part of a year before they bond with you. But when they do, it's honest. I love going to sleep with grooming and contentment purr noises. It honestly makes me happy. As you correctly say, you earn their trust....

My parents always said the same things about cats and I believed it. Then, after actually meeting a cat, I discovered that they perfectly match my Autistic Swag. We sit next to each other and blink while looking vaguely near each other for a little while and then is Tim by betting them and listening to them purr. Really cats just show a different way of showing affection and socializing, but the more you learn about them the more you see how sociable they are. Like, cats have special meows so they can communicate with humans. They will purr when you’re upset/anxious as a calming response for you. They’ll do things like bring you things they “hunted” or let you watch their kittens because they perceive you as one of the big hairless cats in their colony. Sure, they might not always be so all-in on pets as dogs or always seek you out to play or anything like that, but they’re very loving when you understand *how* they love.
I work at a brewery, and we have barn cats to keep mice out of the grain and such. We adopted two new ones who werent really people savvy. My friend spent time feeding them and cleaning their litterboxes while they were getting acclimated, so they associate her with food. They dont really approach her much until theres treats in play. But I would spend every other afternoon laying outside their crates with my hand pressed up against the door for about 20 minutes for 3 months. They grew accustomed to me, my presence, and my scent. I am their friend, not someone who puts food out. Now when I am working outside, they hang around me. Customers find it so cute how I have these two cats trailing after me when I'm walking around outside.

OMG this actually made me cry. I used to be a dog person, as I just never had a cat growing up and I'm allergic so I kinda kept my distance and I didn't get them. Then I got a Siberian cat (they're hypo-allergenic and good for people with allergies) NOW I'm the biggest cat person. Cats are more complicated than dogs, you have to work harder to get to know them and connect with them, in general, but when you take the time and make the effort it's so rewarding! My cat has saved my life many times over, he has been there for me through dark times, he makes me laugh every day, he gives me so much love and affection. He is my favourite 'person' in the world. I love him more than anything or anyone in my life!
The thing is, when you blink at cats, they see it as you're telling them your trust them or that they can trust you. You know when you're in front of a predator, you won't wanna blink? Blinking can be, like, to show you're not afraid or something
Imagine how awkward the person who adopted Karina would feel like "Oh I didn't know you really liked this cat too!" *oh shiet she's crying isn't she oh shiet*
tbh, If i saw someone crying because I wanted to adopt said cat, I would ask them if they wanted to adopt her instead. Because it was so clear how much she loved her.
People need to understand that cats take more time to trust than dogs... My cat took some time and I just waited and know he follows me EVERYWHERE and plays with me and lay on my keyboard so I will give him attention xD
Elizabeth Smith no offense means so much offense especially if you say "no offense but dogs are WAYYY better then cats" like leave your own opinion somewhere else! I hated cats until I got one she hated me I hated her it was a special bond but then she had kittens and I helped her and we had a special bond and one of her kittens became my best friend and passed away when he was only one years old..
I love both, cats and dogs and it's hard for me to understand why people could "hate" any one of these species unless they've suffered from personal traumas. Also, from my personal experience, "dog-lovers" are quick to hate on "cat-lovers" while "cat-lovers" seem more understanding. There are different kinds of love, and as long as it brings something you cherish, it's a worthy love :)
I agree with you on everything except that cat people are more understanding than dog people. I think most people who prefer one over the other do so without judging those who like the other , but there are about an equal number in both camps that won't like one animal without insulting the other one. That's strange to me, but fortunately I think they are loud but few :)
Zeyu Wu Yeah no, I've mostly seen it the other way around where cat lovers are more quick to judge dog lovers and dogs themselves. I think that the people almost replicate the animal they like. Dogs are more social and forgiving, so dog lovers seem to mimic that as with how cats are more solitary.
