I own the green Polaris from JLC, and I can absolutely guarantee that you will not regret getting this watch! It is an amazing and versatile watch. I got the steel bracelet also to swap with the rubber strap which gives the watch even more versatility. Just a fantastic watch!

Hi Andy, I have recently purchased a blue dial Omega Globemaster blue and a Grand Seiko SBGA211 Snowflake. Both are stunning pieces. I also have a green dial Aqua Terra. The Globemaster pips the Aqua Terra. The Globemaster often gets overlooked but it's a stunning eye catching piece that has become my favourite watc.

I have the Grand Seiko SBGN 001, their very first GMT quartz, that was limited to only 800 pieces world wide, and I find this model gets very close to a Rolex explorer 2, but in quartz. A truly excellent watch. The important thing to remember is, apart from battery changes, the watch will need a service in 50yrs time, so you cut down on expensive servicing costs, something to consider. I do love JLC, and I have a reverso. The JLC Polaris perpetual calendar would be a dream watch for me, if it fitted on my 6.5 inch wrist.

Came very close to getting a JLC Polaris Mariner Date but the JLC store would not budge on price at all. Highly recommend googling it as, in my opinion, has the best blue dial without having to double the price to get the memovox version. However, it is a divers watch and you can only have so many of them. I have the aqua terra in green amongst my collection, its a gorgeous watch and looks fantastic on a green croc strap, but it looks meh on the black rubber aqua terra strap. However, the black rubber aqua terra strap looked fantastic on my speedy moonwatch (I haven't seen many people do this though, but it fits well).

Sadly boutiques don't discount. But they will discuss accessories. That bracelet is £1,500, so could be a nice sweetener.

I think your most pertinent observation is 'the fit'. If the base or back plate of the watch extends beyond the lugs it will be less comfortable. The downward turn of the GS lugs conform to the wrist. The quartz Grand Seiko appears to hug your wrist...and mine certainly does! It's subjective. What I choose to wear from my stable of 6 rather depends on where I am going and what I am doing.

Hi Andy, Just a quick thank you for mentioning on one of your previous videos that the Rolex waitlist at Goldsmiths Birmingham might not be that bad, I popped in had a positive chat with them and 7 weeks later got the call for for the new 40mm explorer. I wouldn’t have even bothered if it wasn’t for watching your videos, so cheers bud 👍 and btw I do love the look of the GS great value for money and under 3k

The Aqua Terra took my advice and fixed that shabby date window with a silver border around it. Good sleight of hand in this video when you show the AT initially in blue without the border and then show the revamped orange one WITH the date border. The Planet ocean is nice but I like the orange/red bezel myself .

I’ve just bought a Baumé & Mercier Riviera Baumatic. Got a new 42mm with grey sapphire dial for the superb price of £2704 with a very nice piano black watch winder thrown in. Something a little left field but I’m very pleased with it and amazed at the quality. They do a 39mm with the same in house movement too.

If you want a sport / dress GMT , then look into tudors past . The aeronaut is 41mm , but only 10.5mm thick. Its such a classy watch and the bracelet is just sublime, with a lovely thin clasp. Too many watches are now over engineered, because of the obsession for milled swing arms and thick chunky clasps. The globe master is a lovely watch but has no micro adjust on the butterfly clasp , and that can be a deal breaker if you cant get a good fit. Same with the aqua terra really.

I don’t have the budget you do, but I have a pretty great 3 watch collection for under 10k, which I just purchased my 3rd and final watch (Omega) to complete my “perfect trio”. 1. Omega Speedmaster Racing on bracelet (grey dial/yellow accents, discontinued model) ref 326.30.40.50.06.001 2. Tudor Black Bay 58 on bracelet (Blue dial) 3. Sinn 556i on bracelet (Black dial) And of course, my daily beater, the G-Shock GWM5610 (solar/radio controlled). I considered adding a white teak dial 38 mm Aqua Terra on rubber or a Tudor Pelagos 39 before I ultimately decided on the Speedmaster, so maybe one day I’ll replace one of my current 3 with one of these two.

Bought a GS SBGP005 some months back 44GS case 9F85 movement with hour hacking fascinating blue dial and really slim. Pick it up every morning and giggle to myself when I watch the second hand. I've got mechanical watches but none of them compete for value for money, being hand assembled, hand finished and accuracy. It's as perfect everyday watch as anyone makes. I love it.

That’s a very good trio. I love the choice of the Polaris and Globemaster. I wish JLC offered the more elaborate dial treatment with their no date versions. There’s more gradation. The Globemaster is a fabulous watch, I very much wish they would develop that line, photos don’t do it justice. It treads the line between dress and sport so well. The GS, I’d step away from the sports watch motif and choose maybe an SBGW267, maybe one of the manual wind SBGY offerings, I believe that’s where they offer their best proportions and it’s something g different relative to the first two.

Good to have you back, I thought you had changed hobbies and moved to stamp collecting. I have been lucky enough to grab the previous gen Grand Seiko compact HAQ GMT, SBGN003 and it could be the perfect daily wearer. Alternatively, if you can do without the GMT feature, have a serious look at the Formex Essence 39. Both steel bracelet and leather strap are very good options (I have both), the dimensions are close to perfect and the movement runs within COSC specs. For me, it’s a winner.

The Polaris somewhat didn’t convince me on my wrist, unfortunately m,on pictures it looks amazing. The Grand Seiko finish is another level of finishing. Nice to see you back. I like the Grand Seiko but feel it misses the mark on the dial, having tried on a few, the sheer beauty of their dials is what draws me to the brand, the Quartz GMT really lacks there in my opinion, and yes as it's quartz you don't het that amazing high beat sweep that you do with the mechanical - still it's a handsome watch and no mistake. I finally decided on a current model Speedmaster (sapphire sandwich) I was so tempted to go vintage, but the new bracelet really won me over. I think an Aqua Terra might be next, and the summer blue is winning out currently.

Nice to have you back! A GADA watch is notoriously difficult - if you ignore Rolex! Without doubt, the GS is the engineer's choice! Fit/finish/comfort is superior to the others and there's always a GMT option. The JLC is just too big for a GADA and you know in your heart that it is crazily overpriced. It'd be a miracle to get the bracelet as part of the deal from the BS Boutique! I love JLC dearly, but the Polaris is not their finest hour. Master Control Date on a bracelet? The Globemaster is stellar, but your observations on the bracelet are spot on. Nonetheless, a great design and crazily underrated, though it does wear very large. So why no Rolex? A DJ is totally attainable from an AD now with a bit of a wait, or easily on the secondary market for far less than the JLC (and it won't depreciate much). You then have the choice to go dressy or sporty with size/bezel choice. While I do own Rolex divers and the Explorer, I put off buying a DJ for a long time, but after going round the houses with JLC, GS and Omega (really), I came back to the obvious choice and haven't looked back!

@jameshoward9700
@jameshoward9700 Год назад
@@TheEnglishWatch Very nice choice and underrated! That would be my GADA choice too. I'm pretty sure you'd get one in reasonable time, unpleasant, open ended process though it is. Or buy on the secondary - 36 might be below retail now. But at ADs, I think the stunning grey is less in demand (and 36 certainly), so you may get offered one quickly. What holds up DJ times is very specific combos (eg fluted Wimbledon on Jubilee) or very common ones (black). If considering smooth bezel/Oyster I'd at least consider the 36 - it is bigger than the Explorer 36. To my eye, the 41 smooth wears a bit big. I'd go 41 fluted/Jubilee; 36 smooth/Oyster... Best of luck!

Q906868J is absolutely fantastic and I almost pulled the trigger on one. Issue for me was that the top crown is no longer screwed-down (like it was on the Mariner) and they removed the open orange indicator. The bezel now rotates too freely for my taste. Just a detail but a deal breaker for me. Also, you will lose about $3k right off the bat since its market value is around $8k. Not that it should matter as watches are not investments, but still.

Hey Andy, great video! I've actually been looking at the Mariner Date and Globemaster myself. How did the Mariner Date fit on your wrist? I read the lug to lug is approximately 47mm but with the bracelet links flaring out from the case, it really wears truer towards a 55mm which is worrying. 50mm lug to lug is the maximum I can pull off without looking ridiculous. Any thoughts?

The JLC completely NOT for me, completely outwith my budget & 42mm too, which I'm now near totally no longer interested in & even with my near 8.5 inch wrist & then there's the dear old Omega 39mm Globemaster, so size completely fits my now 37mm - 40mm preference for new watches, but the £7,300 RRP is dear old Omega getting it nearly ALL wrong again when it comes to RRP & last but not least, the 39mm Grand Seiko at £2,950 & I too recently tried on a similarly sized & similarly priced blue dial Grand Seiko Heritage SBGP 005 which, as you say, fitted perfectly!!!!!
