I feel watering is the hardest part to learn as a new grower

I hand water partially due to space constraints but auto watering is great for larger grows. Hand watering has the advantage off being more involved in maintaining good growth.

Watering also renews the air in the substrate, pushing old air down and sucking fresh oxygen from the top 👍. That's why it is important to let the "soil" dry a little before watering again: a bigger volume of air is renewed... Also keep in mind that the roots themself become a big part of the water stock and will be the last element to dry out.

It's cool to see y'all together for a change. Thanks for the great info! My favorite way to grow is with homemade Earthbox copies, or you can call them wicking beds. You just put water in the tube to fill the reservoir and it naturally wicks up into the soil. The roots grow down to the water reservoir a lot of times. You only water once a week during veg and maybe twice a week during flower. That's it. Super simple, no moving parts or stuff that can leak or break or fail. It's better to make your own wicking beds out if storage totes than to buy Earthboxes or Patio Pickers so you can have deeper soil, and it's cheaper. You cut the top so it fits down inside and becomes the floor that holds up the soil. Then you just need a piece of PVC for a fill tube and something to hold the lid 3" off the bottom. You need to cut the corners out and put in a bit of landscaping fabric to keep the soil from directly touching the water. It's best to watch videos about how to make them. They make my life a lot easier.

My first run using AC Infinity auto water pots. So far it's flawless. Nutes everytime. In week two of flower, all leaves are green and no burnt tips. Only my second grow but it's superior to my first.

That’s why I like my 4x8 no till bed. I water lightly once every other day to maintain a moist soil. No ph, ec or run off. Super simple way to grow

Dry backs aren’t important in organics. I did a test with blumats and their moisture meter. One exp I watered to 80mbar and let it dry to 180mbar but when I keep it at a constant 120mbar(recommended for living soil) I get far more root growth.

I grow in LOS indoors growing with my take on Coot’s methods and also the Build-a-Soil way. I grow in 20 gallon pots indoors, the 5% rule applies to me without even realizing it. 1 gallon of AACT or SST once per week during veg, and maybe a small spritzer of water in between teas just to keep top of soil moist. In flower the girls definitely get more thirsty so I add more water as needed. I just wanted to add that it is important to keep your LOS moist prior to and after harvest to keep the soil biology healthy and happy! As most of us re-use our LOS…. Happy growing!

I weigh my pots to keep track of how much water to feed. This works great, up to scrog.

I'm from Grand rapids mi myself. And I been growing since was 16 I could of got my parents in trouble before it was legal. But the time I been growing up can almost let it die and it will still grow great buds. I do it it's my method. Like you say so the roots can find it's way. I'm a big stresser on my plants just so I can make the roots fight not knowing what I was doing was right I used to thank I was doing it wrong. Because I didn't have no one to show men. Now I will grow some of the best in Grand rapids and I listen to other growers. I hate these new growers that just started but thank they can correct you on something we been made a mistake on years before.

Filtering my water with a britta water filter made a huge difference for me. And using cloth pots is way better

LOVIN THE STASH BLEND GUYS!!!!!!! I tell you it is nice to take a break from the regular feeding routine and just throw in some stash blend. I've got a friend that is doing a big run using only strive nutrients, stash blend and molasses. Freakin aaamazing results so far she says the feeding times go so much faster. Can't wait to see when she flips. I just might switch methods after I see the results!!! But I do like my organics I do use synthetics in a pinch(Humboldt Secret). The growth in vegetarian is astonishing so far though IMO. And she's only using half the recommended amount of everything she uses (nitrogen toxicity has been an issue) we think its just able to take in so much more nutes?.!.?

for me ten gallon pot, organic soil, 1 gallon of water every other day when plants are full grown, about 5 feet tall, mulch on top to hold moisture. So ten percent of the size of pot for water. I water 1/3 gallon from the bottom and the rest top water.

I have been playing with mastering watering the past year. I'm now using 3 Gal fabric pots and only watering once every 5-7 days when the pot starts to lighten up

For organic I try to plan a dry back just before I feed a tea…. Basically I water when I start my brew and wait till the tea is ready, I have a cheap moisture meter so it goes from wet down to mid moist and then feed the tea.

I believe one of you had the ac infinity self watering bases and fabric pots. What's your thoughts about watering in that case. ????

As a DWC guy ill throw my 2c into the ring. If you want a "simpler" not saying better, but a simpler way to water or a method incase you need to go away for a few days try this. Put your pot in a tray(ideally ontop of a few stones to lift it up just a tiny bit) and water the plant till you have a good runoff collect in the tray, now ideally you want a large tray to do this method so you can fill it will a fair decent bit of water. Fill the tray up by watering the plant and place an airstone in the water in the tray. The water will be kept fresh for the plant and now you have a "candlewick" type system that the plant can draw up as needed and the water will be well aerated so the plants wont suffer as much for it. A good "mulch" or clay pebbles as a top layer help keep your soil moist for longer. As someone who runs DWC, I can have my system setup in a way I only need to "water" once a week if I really wanted lol.

In 3 gal in mid flowering I’m watering every 2-3 days.

After I plant my germinated seed in a solo cup I use another solo cup cut almost in half and put it upside down over the soil creating a little greenhouse until I see the 1st true leaves. Thanks for the watering tips!! I usually wait until I feel like I can throw the pot across the room easily, then it's time to water but I feel like I can do better. Keep up the great vids guys! I've been growing in Coco but recently I've decided to try sand and perlite. So far I'm getting great results, I water everyday and even skip some days in veg. I'm now in flower and all is doing as expected. I water to a light run off. I've been applying stresses just to see how far I can go

Hey guys, good upload. Some things are said where I'm not totally sure if they were meant that way: - Someone talks about watering and talks about overwatering the plant when you water until runoff because 'pockets of dry soil' inside the ground disappear. What is this opinion? What is going on? If any of this were true, there would be no flushing possible as it would overwater the plant ( you flush a 5 gal pot with like 5 gals, and never ever was there any damage or overwatering that occured from that ). And there would be no dryback-saturation alternation commonly knows as the one way to do it on soil or coco if you want optimum root growth. -Someone says it's more than 20% runoff he's aiming for. I guess it was too easy to just pi** the fertiliser away? If you make those big influencer bucks and don't care, sure, if you use the full spectrum AN nutes, 1L of fertiliser mixture is like 2 bucks. Kidding, but also not kidding. Preparing a meal only to throw 20% of it away every few days is just wasteful, as an attitude and as a way of life. Sure, you can do it, people also drive SUVs in cities, but it's nothing short of very questionable. The phosphorus that you throw away alone is a disaster, environmentally speaking, and I wouldn't ever expect someone growing organically to throw out perfectly good phosphorus into nature, that stuff is actually killing living things. Without hyperbole this time. P is nasty, and so is smelling a tipped river or lake turned green by all the algae your phosphorus fed. --- My take on watering: Just do what fits your schedule, it's not half as important as it's made out to be. Water at the appropriate times of the day fitting your day's plans, water slowly until you see runoff - don't listen to people putting run-off to a specific amount of liquid, like 20% pot size or whatever. The girls differ in thirst, they differ in room VPD which indirectly controls thirst, they differ in their timing of flower which controls thirst and so on. On top of that, the POTS THEMSELVES differ wildly; an AirPot with the bottom raised to its third notch stores much, much less water than a fabric pot, for example, when both are filled with the same amount of medium. Using clay spheres ( do not know the english name, sry ) on the bottom of the pot will drastically alter your medium's ability to hold water. The list just goes on - simply having 500mL left in the soil versus having nothing left will drastically change your water timings. After that, ec-check the runoff and adjust your nute mixture accordingly, no guesswork involved. Repeat this every 1-2 days on coco and roughly every three days on soil - lift your pot, as soon as you go 'woah, I didn't know it could even be this light', water them. If you don't scare by the lightness of the pot, do not water them. Boom, done, watering and nute concentration techniques getting you to like 90% potential explained in 15 seconds. It goes without saying that this guideline applies from late veg to harvest - if you water until runoff when your plant is a 13 day old auto growing in her final 5 gal pot, RU-vid isn't the place to find you the help you need. As mentioned, just do not make a big fuzz out of it, just follow the simple explanation given. Foolproof. I know because I was that fool just a few months ago, and I got close to 1,5g/W doing it like this as a then-beginner. Some steps in the process are so mystified within the community, no one ever stops and goes 'Sure, I can buy a 49 buck egg boiler and a needle sensor to go along with it, and sure, those will be some tasty eggs - or I could just throw my eggs in boiling water. Is anyone of these experts actually able to taste the difference in my eggs when done either way?' --- Sidebar, same goes for flushing. Finally, all the studies done in the last years by medical producers and universities proof beyond the shadow of a doubt that flushing does not alter the nute concentration within the plant. Like, not at all. And you can bet you will hear influencers defend flushing to the death just to defend 'their way' of doing things. And you can bet that 10 years is not enough time to hammer this information into every brain out there - so like Groundhog Day we will discuss the flushing routine again and again for the next years when in reality there's nothing more to discuss and that book is already read and closed. Flushing for water stress and not to bro-scientifically get nutes out of the plant is still viable in the last week(s), tho, as far as I'm up to speed on things. The latest, superior development seems to be to inflict plain-water stress which is basically dry stress by giving less and less water around two weeks before harvest, then 5-8 days before harvest not give any water at all to let the plant slowly die in her dry pot. Haven't tried, but sounds plausible - it can't hurt to try it on one plant I reckon. And when Bugbee, Kortmann or Anker talk, it surely won't hurt to listen, and that method or a version thereof is what they all seem to push instead of the infamous flushing routine. Just a small thought about flushing and some of the beliefs that are held onto just because 'it was always done that way, and that way has never let me down!'. --- Back to watering, don't get impatient as you so often do at the beginning of your grows, wanting to water because you want to do good by your girls. If you're really unsure - It's better to react to the plant sagging already from a lack of water and then watering it, than it is to overwater it. Even better still is simply watering her when she needs it and not watering her when she doesn't. As always, this is an opinion, please do take it as such.

I did something similar, using Turface instead of sand. Going very well, so far. Love CoCo but these alternatives are noteworthy.

Excellent discussion as always! I grow bean to harvest in 3 parts coco and 1 part vermiculite in two 10 gallon grow bags in a 4x8 tent. I use the three part GP nutrients, epsom salt, michorizae, molasses, and purified bottled water. I feed from the top and water from the bottom under LED through veg 18/6, and HPS for flowering 12/12 and the second half at 11/13. Perhaps in a part two on watering I would love to hear your thoughts on: butt-slogging, feeding from the top - watering from the bottom, misting, hydrogen peroxide, using specific sonic frequencies affecting the molecular structure of the water for each stage of growth, electro-culture gardening, grounding, crystal energy, faraday cage, grow tent music, germinating seed in your saliva, epsom salt, how to flush without drowning your plants, and employing ground cover to hold in moisture. BTW: I make fractal art/ambient music videos that you might enjoy with your morning sesh. Three cheers!

Got to think about the change in the rate of transpiration after a leaf strip when you've changed the ability to move water.

How big the plant is in relation to the container will determine how much water you need and the frequency! Once the plant is bigger than the container, it will need water everyday from my experience

I had pre ordered the blend before it came out. Been using it since. I actually can say it does replace a lot of extra shit I was using. Gonna say on the real.... for me, i never let mine fully dry down. it makes the next watering too hard/ uneven moisture, plus if you have isopods, worms, or springtails they would perish in a dry down, i keep leaf litter and chop and drop for mulch and add little tiny food scraps veggies and fruit under the mulch to feed the bigger organisms

why water until run off? bottom feed that shit. ill put two liters through the top and one in the tray, i never get run off but i also know ive saturated the whole pot.

Q&A question: What do you do with the little "nibs" of herbs left un-smoked from cone/blunt/joints? Do you smoke them, trash them, save them for a dry period? My answer: I only smoke medicinals in my house so my ash tray gets full of ash and nibs left attached to cones. I compost all of it. All of that carbon from the ash, papers, carboard cone tips, plus the left over herbs goes back into the soil via compost to grow more medicine!

I nailed it down. I have my own personal experience and know your ladies people. They will talk to you. Also be aware of the top drying faster than the bottom.

A mulch on the soil surface will help with the even watering. You can see this if you grow in a vegetable garden and you water a bed that has a mulch on top of it versus one that has just soil

growing in soil earth box 10gal to help with top drying out im using raw hessin cloth, similar to worm bin blankets instead of mulch easy to add amendments and keeps the insect down, thanks guys good show again

Autopots are the perfect watering system I've used so far. Waiting to see if any of the sponsors for channels like this come out with a cheaper, copy cat system. AC Infinity self watering base is a close second as well. Much easier to try and then learn from.

Here are 3 stoners with very high IQs. These 3 guys would have been successful no matter what they went into. I watch a lot of You Tube grow channels, and these 3 guys are some of the best for sure. Thank you for what you do!

After using soil for a while. Im realizing mixing roots organic with coco -mother earth provides extreme growth while still feeding. The growth is like 40% faster with the mix. You can even see the roots reaching for the top dress unlike in straight soil.

Consistency in watering is far more important than explained its far better to water a little each day think about yourself do you want to drink 7 gallons of water today and nothing for 7 days no now a gallon each day for 7 day's is great and the plants even learn and expect their drink keeping it at the same time this is why dripers work

in organics, i start with 10% and at transplants 10%. i mist the top lightly every other day at lights on, and do 5% every 4-7 days depending on weight of containers or appearance of plants. its the one thing i never feel fully confident in being perfect, but i try to mimic nature in my methods.

Im running Square ac 5gal air pots and run promx spil, i water every morn in flower a d veg every other day veg pots size 3gal. I prefer to hand water so that forces me to be more hands on with the ladys and alert to anything going wrong.

We feed 10 times i believe . We run jacks its trash i hate it no terps.

I saw an article that said that the soil contains around 20% moisture in total but even when its completely dry it still holds about 5% of moisture

Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure grow links has some sort of AI system where it's a moisture meter that logs your dry backs, ec, and more and it also connects to your irrigation so if you set it where you want a 30% dry back the grow links system will auto turn on and off your irrigation to hit your dry back goals

Its 5-10% and typically thats everyday, if u wanna go longer u can go up yo 20% for a heavy full saturation, the 5% is to maintain

If you want to get even root zone coverage, use a pinch of yucca in the mix. It is foolish to water without a little surfactant in the mix. Coverage area enhancement is a mathematically proven advantage that surfactants give fertilization.

jer from millennium does 1 dry back before harvest to increase terps?

At what point I’d like to ask do u do the nitrogen leech. Where u let her dry out toward ends of veg when flower begins. At what point do I do the technique of Just total dry. Which I do completely let my soil dry out. In beginning of flower….bit confusing not flowered before.
