Reptile is one of the best songs ever written imo, not just by periphery but ever as a fan of theirs since P1, I think your list is very fair and well reasoned, it's tough to consider each album as a whole without letting standout tracks influence the overall rating too much, good job!

Finally someone who's giving alpha/omega the recognition it deserves.

Like you, I got on the Periphery bandwagon with P3. The guys in my band at that time were really into P2, but for me, there was so much hype around Periphery and was so anti-trend back then, that I didn't give them a chance. I figured they be here and gone so fast, just like so many other bands of that time. But when I heard "Marigold", I was like, wait, whaaaat?!?!? It had this classical music vibe to it that grabbed my attention. Also, Spencer's vocals seemed more mature. Especially his singing voice (his harsh vocals were always great). So, Marigold sparked my interest, but The Way The News Goes, Prayer Position, Absolomb, and Lune (especially Lune) turned me into a total fan. After that, I checked out their back catalog and the rest is history. I think your tier list is spot on. I wouldn't change a thing. Although, if there was an "A+" tier, I'd put P4 on there simply because of "Satellites" and "Reptile". I think "Reptile" is an absolute masterpiece! Arguable their best song, though my opinion on "best song" changes from month to month. Anyway, great tier list! Subscribed!

Just got into Periphery last year because of PV. Spent the rest of the year almost exclusively listening to this band. Since then PIV has become my favorite. I still need to listen to more of their records I feel like I'm missing out on a lot of good tracks. Great video.

They're one of my favorite bands too, I personally got into them (and metal in general) way more recently, and PIV & PV are my personal favorites, even some of my all-time favs because of all the recent impactful memories attaches to them and their sound is just everything I need in music 😂. Btw I'm seeing them in February so stoked.

I clicked on this video fully expecting to be disappointed and disagree with everything as soon as I saw P1 in C tier but after watching the full thing I walked away extremely glad that I didn't jump to conclusions and listened through your logic behind everything. You've inspired me to go back and give some of the records I have ranked lower than you another shot with a fresh perspective. On an unrelated note I think it would be really cool if you did a March Madness style bracket of all the Periphery tracks, maybe get your subs to rank them to provide a seeding or just randomly seed it, then make a series of videos of you burning through the bracket and talking through your picks. Looking forward to your future videos

You lost me a little with P1 at C, but I do agree with everything else on this list. I guess I just have a stronger connection to the album as I got into them with their first two albums in 2012. I think the album does start off a little slow but becomes amazing in the second half, A tier for me. I agree on Juggernaut, definitely my favorite as well. Great video!

As someone who just found this band last year with Periphery V, and loved that album, I tried to go back starting with the first album and couldn’t get into it. Zagreus and Dracul Gras were my favs from V, maybe I should start with 2 and go from there.

Compared to music in general just about every record of theirs is S tier considering the quality of the music. However, judging them against themselves here’s mine: P1: B Icarus: C P2: S Clear EP: D Alpha: B Omega: S P3: A P4: A P5: A Thinking about it, for the last 3 albums they are so damn good, but what brings P2/Omega up to S is the importance of P2 where they got the squad together of all 6 members, and I just think Juggernaut is a magnum opus. The storyline, themes like they do on other albums that recur but stretched over a double album, the way the album is like the hero’s journey or monomyth, just amazing. That’s what makes them S tier. Edit: Juggernaut is definitely best as a single work and I think as a whole it’s S tier for sure. I don’t think Alpha is weak by any means. It’s just hard not putting EVERYTHING in S tier.

I'm sorry, as someone who's been an avid Periphery fan since 2011, P1 is an absolute masterpiece of an album! The Icarus EP while not great (I'm looking at you remixes), is criminally underrated IMO. Frak the Gods, Captain On, and Eureka! AND the practically forgot song Passenger (not on the EP). P2 is absolutely amazing! CLEAR is good, but not a favorite of mine, P3, amazing! Alpha/Omega, when it first came out I wasn't a big fan of them, but as of recently, I've been really enjoying it! Much better than I remember it! P4 is very good, and honestly... I don't know a single song off of P5... S. P1, P2, P3 A. Alpha/Omega, p4 B. Icarus C. D. CLEAR F. P5 (P5 is not a bad album, it's been forgettable to me thus far)

I'm so happy to see such reverence for Juggernaut here. I got into the band shortly after Juggernaut dropped and it honestly has become my favorite album from any band. It sucks that the band themselves seem to hate it and avoid playing those songs live because goddamn, I've never heard anything else like it. Maybe we can hope for a 10 year anniversary tour for it where they load up like 20 different guitars for their billion tuning changes song to song and play the whole thing start to finish. I would pay any amount of money to see that. As much as I love P3-onwards and appreciate how much emphasis the band puts on their own mental wellbeing while writing, nothing else they've done has captured my attention like Juggernaut, though Reptile is really close. Fully agree with "less of a story, more of a collection of songs" for pretty much everything after Juggernaut. Love your takes though. I more or less agree with everything you said even though I'd personally switch P3 and P4. P5 is great but it feels a little more all over the place than their other stuff.

The fact that Muramasa, Ragnarok & Massmune sorta compliment each other and do call back to each other had my head turning when I first listen to the album in high school years ago when it got released. I was like, hey I heard this song already, wait…no I didn’t….what’s going on?! This is sick.

ngl you had me seething with P1 being C tier but the rest I mostly agree with, but mostly because for myself S tier is a big tie between Juggernaut and P2

P2 is a masterpiece, each and every song slaps so hard even 10+ years later, definitely S++ tier

I discovered periphery in 2019 with Hail Stan, by playing clone hero of all games, and was obsessed. I spent a couple days just listening to their entire discography. I never really get sick of them and listen to them everyday haha. Thoughts on the release we never got in the US, Passenger? Very P1-esque, but I think it's also a solid track.

Respect the list. P2 and Hail Stan are my top 2 then p1, then djent is not a genre, alpha/omega, clear, p3 then juggernaut.

J:A+O in my opinion is not only Periphery's best offering, I firmly believe it's the best album/double album of all time. Absolutely iconic. I may be only in my 30's, but as a motorcycle rider, I have a will written, and in that will, I have that I want Stranger Things played at my funeral. It will always be my favourite and most relatable song of all time. On a side note, Satellites touched me so deeply that it pushed me to start studying an environmental science degree.

Regardless of how "virtuosic", or shreddy their first album is, the compositions on P1 were incredibly unique. They do begin to change their sound and their compositions feel more thematical. But the melodies and changes in songs like buttersnips, all new materials and racecar are absoluetly genious. I will agree, spencer did not sound as good on this album, but I was able to overlook his shortcomings with how interesting it was sonically.

When I listened to Hell Below for the first time, it was the darkest and most brutal shit I've ever heard. It actually scared me. And when they had the chill jazz part at the end, I was like these guys are psychopaths for sure.

Periphery has been one of my favorite bands since 9 years. There earlier stuffs are good but with juggernaut double albums & p3 are great records. Don’t get me wrong, p1, p2 & clear ep are good records. P4 and p5 hold a special place in my heart personally. Hope to see them again. Sucked had to miss them live when they were playing at Anaheim late last year. Still…. All time favorite band 🙏

I can get past P2 not being S, but to put both their best and worst albums on B is mind boggling.

S: P2 A: P1, P5 B: P3, P4 C: Juggernaut D: Clear, Icarus EP P2 is a masterpiece from start to finish. Luck as a Constant in particular is one of my favorite songs of all time. P1 and P5 both are fantastic and are only A tier instead of S because P2 exists. P3 and P4 both were great but there's a few tracks on each I always skip and just don't hit right. Juggernaut is good but there's a bunch of songs that just don't excite me. 22 Faces, Rainbow gravity and The Bad Thing are huge highlights though. Clear is eh, but I do get the main riff from Extraneous stuck in my head a bunch. Agree that Pale Aura is probably the best off that record. Icarus exists and is fun but doesn't really compete with anything else in their discography.

To me, P5 feels more like an alternate universe P4 than its own thing. Wildfire is very similar to Blood Eagle, for example. While I think Wax Wings is one of, if not the, best Periphery song to date, the rest of the album just feels too derivative of themselves. I think I would flip P4 and P3, otherwise I agree with your ranking.

juggernaut is the best album from periphery and i dare to say of all djent and one of the best metal album of all time. It is that great it fixed my depression and i gave up on killing myself after i stumble into the album. Quite literally a life changing album

They always outdo themselves in terms of their albums, it's always a natural progression in terms of songwriting. Their sound gets clearer, lyrics are deeper, production is tighter. Growing with this band from the beginning has been an experience, PV is presently peak Periphery.

Been a Periphery fan since P2. I hard disagree with rating the Clear EP so low, I consider that an S-tier release. Every single track is so interesting and varied. I also disagree with Hail Stan being that low as well; it's an A or even S for me. It represents an amalgamation of all their ventures of their sounds up to that point, like a circle being completed. I heard the singles on P5 and was not thrilled, as I felt they were not writing anything new. Not knocking your opinion or anything. Total agreement on P2, Juggernaut, and P3.

10/10, fully agreed, even though it pains me to put P4 and P5 in B. They feel better than that B suggests, but ultimately they can't be in the same tiers as the other records in there.

I've listened to Periphery a little bit over the past 3 years (about 45,000 times) and I HIGHLY recommend everyone to listen to each album at least a couple hundred times to get the general vibe and get a good grasp on how good an album is. I've noticed from friends and other people I know that the more they listen to Periphery, the more they appreciate P1 - with some limitations - as long as they're open-minded and can get used to some mediocre mixing, they will eventually get into P1. If you dislike the production and can do some music, it's not too difficult to mix it better either! At this point, I've listened to it about 12,000 times and could go on forever, I feel like lmao.. Bit of a hot take here as well, Racecar is much better than Reptile - I've listened to both about 1000 times, yet got bored of Reptile, while Racecar still remains super nice and short and fun ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Yes, I called Racecar short - it happens at that point in time lmao I really want people to appreciate this album, it's a hidden gem - I was a hater at first too, only got into it after listening to P1 songs a couple dozen times. P2 is also infinitely replayable in that regard and it's up to preference whichever is better. It's the fan favorite and for a good reason. Juggs are both very solid, nothing to complain about, though I think Omega is slightly better overall. I think P3 is their worst, and least replayable album - I started out with it, and was really into it at first, but after only ~5000 listens it became nearly unplayable for me :sob. P4 is a decent album, and so is P5, though I feel like they won't be super replayable (definitely above P3 though). and for the EPs, disregarding the remixes entirely (ofc), they still fall flat due to being super repetitive, and some of the songs kinda just suck :( If you're willing to listen to them though, they have some bangers. So ultimately my tierlist would look like S: P1, P2 A: Juggernaut Omega, Juggernaut Alpha B: P5, P4 C: P3, Clear, Icarus Also disregarding albums entirely due to imperfect production is kinda trashy -w- (I mean I love In Concretion by Unprocessed but still..) Also also my brain doesn't work rn (tired) so the formatting and punctuation sucks

I love how different every periphery tier list seems to be - haha! the albums are so closely matched in terms of quality. My least favourite has to be P3 because I feel it lacks truly heavy songs and the lyricism feels like quite a downgrade from P2 and Jug. P2 and Jug are S tier, P4 is A tier, P5 and P1 are B tier, and P3 is C. The EP's are both in D tier but they're not really albums, are they?

S: Omega, P2 A: P5, P4, P1 B: Alpha C: Icarus, P3 D: Clear Omega and P2 are perfect. P5, P4, and P1 are near perfection. Alpha had a few slumps like The Event, the first half of Psychosphere, and the ending of Scourge, but the rest of the album is nearly flawless. P3 also had some slumps: Remain Indoors, Price is Wrong, and Motormouth don't do much for me. I also find the songwriting on P3 to be a bit bloated and lackluster by Periphery standards, still enjoyable though. It's the only Periphery album that I feel is too long. I've only heard the EPs once or twice, I need to listen to them more, but I remember really enjoying Icarus, while Clear didn't do much for me. Overall, Periphery is a top-five band for me, and their discography is consistently great.

L list, puttig P1 in C is asinine. it's one of their most innovative records. alpha and omega is borderline disney ballad territory

P1 was the best and it's been all downhill from there. P2 had some very good stuff but also mediocrity, and nothing as great as Racecar from 1. Can't remember if it was P3 that killed off any faith I had in them. I've given their newer stuff a token listen but it's just embarrassing. Seeing a lot of newer fans comment here, and I've seen elsewhere that either Periphery themselves or their fans don't appreciate 1. Guess that era is just completely dead and not widely appreciated anymore.
