As prevalent as Spanglish is already, there are many who believe we’ll only see that influence expand as generations of Latinx youth grow up, start families and enter the workforce. As the share of U.S. Latinos who speak Spanish at home drops and those who speak English grows, could Spanglish one day overtake Spanish as the second-most spoken language in the U.S.?

In the Hispanic community in my city, spanish and english are used in a gradient continuum. Depending on the background of the speakers different amounts of spanish and english are used, even grammar will switch from more spanish to more english (irrespective of what words are being said). At work, many hispanic coworkers will speak to me in spanish with english flavored grammar. My supervisor speaks to me in English with Spanish word order. Its very interesting

Fun fact Spanglish is not only in the Us it exists in: Gibraltar and Spain, Guatemala and Belize. And etc Spanish speaking countries bordering an English country.

I’d say one difference with other dialects is that if you go outside the US speaking Spanglish, a person who doesn’t speak English will not understand what a Spanglish speaking person is saying. It’s easier when you have a conversation with a monolingual speaker of another Spanish dialect.

I always say se murió mi teléfono when speaking Spanish. Here in Costa Rica we don't have the strong mexican "RR". I rather hope they (English/Spanish) don't merge but who knows. It's funny how many European and Asian cultures in the US speaks perfect Spanish Greetings from Costa Rica 🇨🇷

I'm a Filipino who learned Spanish as my second language and every time I speak Spanish i think first in English, that's why sometimes I accidentally speak spanglish because of basing my Spanish grammar to English.

As a native English and Spanish speaker I find ‘Spanglish’ so unbelievably cringy, which makes sense as it comes from the US. Occasionally using a word from the other language when you either forget the word in the language you’re speaking or find the word in the other language more closely approaches the meaning you want to convey and you know the other person is bilingual as well is fine, but literally speaking each sentence mitad y mitad and mezclando everything just sounds stupid and makes me cringe so hard I can’t even.

Culture is changeable and it is not necessary to know the origin of words to use them in everyday life. So much so that most speakers of English, Spanish and other languages do not even know where their own words come from and in many cases they come from each other... Albino (from Portuguese) Huricane / tornado (from Spanish) And etc...
