Pete Alonso addresses being called out at home in controversial Mets defeat | SNY

Despite believing he beat the tag, Mets first baseman Pete Alonso was diplomatic regarding being called out at home plate on the double play that ended the game. Alonso said he was "just trying to make a play" but has no choice but to live with the decision made by video review.

Even the mets announcer Hernandez said Amaya was not blocking the plate. It's a assinine rule to begin with. Poor Buster Posey gets injured so they put in that rule almost as bad as playing 7 inning games during doubleheaders in 2021 and 2022. And the having a runner at 2nd base starting each half inning of extra innings.

Amaya's foot was on the plate before the ball was in his glove. You can't do that. You understand this , right? lol

So, I have been a big "sign Pete" guy. No one has hit more bombs than Pete since he entered the league, and he is a classy guy. That being said, there has been a general malaise and lack of clutch plays/hitting simce last year. When I just heard Pete say he thought he was safe but "shucks, darn it" I was out. While it is true the call is what it is and you don't control that (and he was out for not touching the plate before the tag), you never see any fire from this Mets team. No anger that they lost. No emotion at all really. The 86 team played with a chip on their shoulder and would be mad that they lost. These Mets today just say shucks darnit, we tried our best but we lost. Oh well, we'll try harder tomorrow. Time to blow up this team/core. Nimmo is playing well be he has no fire either. McNeil is a crybaby whe slams his bat and helmet every time he is out. We need to see fire and emotion like Alvarez brings. How about the emotion from Vientos when he (not the vets) came through big and won the game. This is what is missing from this team. This team has no life in them.

I thought it was a tie. Looked like his hand came down and hit the plate just as he was getting tagged. It was a good play by the Cubs defense and tag by the catcher.

All those clutch slides that are always happening. I don't know what you're talking about. Pete has hit a lot of big home runs and gotten hits at key times. If you're a fair weather fan just say so, but not all breaks are going to go your way.

@TheMr02drop wrong... I watch religiously. He lacks the clutch bone that is needed. His stats are padded because his RBIs only happen in non-competitive moments. Sorry if the truth hurts...LFGM
