I'm stunned Pete has made it into the 'Trade this player' conversation. He's a GREAT Met, and a jewel of a guy. I don't know what else to say other than he's got to stay. ❤ Pete.
Meh. He's been an elite HR hitter. It might be so good that he could potentially be a HOF player. But the rest of his game is servicable at best. Ideally, the Mets resign him, but they'd be nuts to offer him some type of mega contract. He just isn't good enough to warrant it.
Check his split stats. He can't hit with runners in scoring position. He doesn't hit in key situations. Last year he hit 217. This year he's hitting 240. How is he going to look four years from now? The Mets have a strong core of young infielders. They don't need to saddle themselves with another bloated contract.
@@SIOrlove1what game are you watching? He’s the pre-eminent power hitter in today’s game. Why let Pete walk and sign the “next best power hitter “ for the same money??
I just remembered that episode of Hey Arnold! where Stinky’s dad was begging him to sign the $1 million contract in commercials and public appearances. 🤣🤣
He shoulda signed the deal he got... hope he didn't screw the pooch. "Fraid he might've, though. The GMs don't take kindly to gettin' dissed. If I had to bet, I'd say Stearns won't up the ante.
@@TCO1216 Didn't say he was and Stearns may be. Regardless, he's prolly gone. Lotsa happy players get dumped; lot less likely if he had about 40 pts. on the OBP or BA, take your pick.
Don't ask for $40m a year contract unless you're hitting above .300 avg and making your hits count the most. How many times have you struck out or grounded out with RISP?
Now if Pete could only learn to lay off the slider away it's maddening to watch him take one down the middle and then swing at one 3 feet outside to make out
My heart would shatter if Alonso left he is a kind good guy big part of the franchise it’s hard not to like the polar bear my bday is soon my only wish is for Pete to stay with the Mets.
He's a Boras guy, so don't ask for hometown discount. The Mets are not getting no hometown discount when they already set a precedent that they're willing to overpaid for other guys. Keep giving Scott Boras more leverage, and you'll see more players hired Boras as he's agent.
Boras has zero leverage right now. His players he made wait have had bad seasons, Alonso having potentially his worst year. And his player just told media he wants to stay. Reality is, if Alonso doesn't want to take a hometown discount, fine, has every right to test the market, but the Mets have every right to trade him and get something back in case he leaves. Fair is fair
@@KCJB22291 He got Max Scherzer paid by Steve Cohen even with his age and his potential injury concerns. That being said, if teams like the Mets would stop overpaying for this player, then Boras will only lose more leverage. This past off-season, we saw most of his clients not get what they wanted. That was clearly a message from the owners trying to tell Boras enough is enough with his high asking prices. However, if somehow he gets what he wants this upcoming off-season, then Boras will regain leverage.
@@KCJB22291this franchise paid Lindor 360M without blinking and eye. Be real. His market is what it is. He’s not delusional. He’d hit 55 at a hitters park
Pete you need to put you walk the talk! Ask for a deal, negotiate and if you really want to be a met don’t go so high on the price. I’m a diehard met fan but your numbers are ok not great and average is low and you need to have better bat discipline. Take a 3 year deal and and help NY win
Alonso still refuses to acknowledge Lindor & Nimmo as All-Stars. Even after he deflected the first question and the reporters made a point to ask him again, he couldn’t say the right things about Lindor and Nimmo. It seems like he may feel threatened by them. In any event, Pete is delusional if he believes that he deserves to be in the All-Star game this year.
He isnt worth a mega contract. Hes a ok first baseman , he doesnt hit his weight , and tries to pull every pitch for a hr. Rather get a Juan Soto and put Baty at first and hope he turns it around like Vientos. He wants to sign cheap then keep him and move him to DH.
I agree with you about the young players. They already have two talented infielders in Alvarez and Vientos. If Baty turns it around, and I believe he can, and we get Mauricio back next year, we won't need Alonso.
Alonso fans are definitely NOT Mets fans. Typical. "Lindor and Nimmo have been having great seasons......so far." 😂😂😂 WELL, YOU HAVEN'T EVEN SHOWN UP YET! 😂😂😂😂
He is the modern day Dave Kingman. Can't run, field, hit for avg, + throw Yet he turned down a 7/175 million dollars extension offer from Mets (25 mil annually) He will rue the day he turned down that offer He will not make 175 ml or anywhere near that for the remainder of his career
I want him to stay and get a new deal so not saying this to trash on him but bruh, if it wasn't for the HR Derby he would NOT be an All Star and one or both of Lindor and Nimmo would and thats just a fact.
Ok, do what Brunson did and sign a team friendly contract instead of trying to extract every penny. Pete can't even hit 250 anymore and wants some unrealistic, monster contract
Pete Alonso DOES NOT deserve to be in the ASG this year. He basically told MLB that the only way he'd do the HR derby was if he was an all star. MLB agreed because let's face it, the HR Derby lacks extablished HR talent this year. He screwed over his teamates, and he screwed over other players in the NL who deserve the spot.
Part of Pete Alonzo’s lack of production problem is because he swings for the fence on every swing, rather than concentrating on just getting a hit. Pitchers make swing him at bad pitches because of that. He’ll get better pitches to hit out of the park when he can convince himself that he’s not going to hit the ball out at every turn.
If thats really how he feels and isnt just talk. Then he needs to go sit down with Cohen and Stearns and his agent and prove it. He wouldn't be the first player to take a hometown discount.
I don't think Stearns wants to keep him. Alonso has never been a clutch hitter, and he is part of a core of veterans who underperformed last year and didn't start hitting until after the incident where the former relief pitcher said they were one of the worst teams in Baseball.
Then i'm not sure what you are doing Pete. Your bat speed is not slow. Maybe the analytics, the front office of opposite teams, prepares their pitcher's. What real preparations are you doing against these pitchers? It just seems you are winging it. They all pitch you inside and then make you chase. I'm nota professional hitter or analytics guy, but if I were you? I'd study the pitchers or at the very least take pitches. McNeil use to take pitches till he got the pitch he wanted. He also got away from his strength. As a whole. When the Braves go against good pitchers. They take pitches to get to the bull pen. Seems like a simple strategy
@@fr2ncm9 sigh. I agree. i hope you see through what i was getting at. He's the new A-Rod. Nice fat stats, but no walk off home runs, hitting always 99% into double plays when the bases are loaded and one out. Empty home runs. Those times he's stealing bases when he can't run or that time a couple of weeks ago he ran for home and was out by a mile. What was he tinking? I'd rather a Bader who when he has men on base has a 70% chance of getting runner in. Those are the players that make teams go to the world series
Mets have already tried to negotiate pete’s contract, it is completely up to him if he takes a team friendly deal or else he will be dealt at the deadline, simple as that.
Well Pete u don’t have a say in that if Stearns wants u out for valuable return you’re out and plus you are not an Allstar this year anyway u took a spot away from either from Nimmo or Lindor
He doesn't want to be traded but he will leave for one penny more without remorse. Boras killed my love for Alonso. With that said I wouldn't blame him for turning down the HR Derby if he wasn't an all-star. Why travel all the way down there just for the HR derby?
He's a Boras guy, so don't ask for hometown discount. The Mets are not getting no hometown discount when they already set a precedent that they're willing to overpaid for other guys. Keep giving Scott Boras more leverage, and you'll see more players hired Boras as he's agent.
Fizzled out majorly at the home run contest. Very bad sign. Something is definitely wrong with Pete. Not sure if its something mechanical or mental but he is not the hitter he was a couple years ago.
Mets fans are over him because: - He’s not mentally strong. - He’s not a leader or a player you can build a team around. - He’s socially awkward and can’t conduct himself in a graceful manner (like Nimmo/Lindor) - He hasn’t produced at the level that was expected of him. (Mark Vientos had more clutch hits than him during the turn around). - He took a roster spot from the more deserving Lindor or Nimmo in the ASG with the home run derby. We all know this. TRADE THIS MAN.
Speak for yourself. I don't want Alonso to get traded. That is an awful take. He's not mentally strong? He is in the major leagues and it is not easy. Just look at his career thus far. Some of the best players are not vocal leaders. It is ridiculous to say that the Mets fan don't want him because he is socially awkward. He has struggled the last year plus, but he has been great for most of his career. Vientos has been around less than half a season. Typical Mets fan that will cry when Alonso's replacement is half the player he is.
This is a business at the end of the day. Alonso needs to go, and the Mets need to fix the bullpen. The lineup has proven that they don't need Alonso anymore. I'm just saying.
If Alonso didn't want to be traded he should have deferred to Nimmo, who's never been an All Star or Lindor, who plays great defense and second in the league in extra base hits.
People forget what Pete has done for the team over the years....the old adage goes...the good things I do, nobody remembers, the bad things I do nobody forgets...just a bunch of fickle minded people who can't see beyond the home run..there are many intangibles that Pete brings to this club..They trade Pete and they will soon regret it....just my take....
They ask the same question, they ask like he will say. I don't want to be here. He obviously want to retire a Met ! And they better give him that money. He , Lindor and Nimmo should not be even in talks of trades not even for Soto. Because Soto is staying a Yankee for years to come.
Has always said all the right things. I do hope it works out for him in NY, but couldn’t blame front office if they didn’t want to lose him for nothing.
