Peter Boghossian is an American philosopher and professor. He is best known for his involvement in the "Grievance Studies affair" and his criticisms of what he refers to as "academic grievance studies" or "academic leftism."
Boghossian was an assistant professor of philosophy at Portland State University. He has a background in analytic philosophy and specializes in topics such as critical thinking, atheism, and epistemology.
In 2017, Boghossian, along with two co-authors, submitted a series of intentionally problematic papers to various academic journals in the fields of gender studies, race studies, and other areas. The aim was to highlight what they saw as ideological bias and deficiencies in academic rigor within these disciplines. The project generated significant controversy and debate, with supporters applauding the critique of academic standards and detractors criticizing the methods and motivations behind the project.
Apart from his involvement in the Grievance Studies affair, Boghossian has been an active critic of what he perceives as the undue influence of postmodernism and social justice ideology in academia. He has been a speaker at various conferences and events, advocating for free speech, open dialogue, and the importance of critical thinking.
