I love how Kate never let go of Peter once in the video - she never ever released her hold on him, it's message so visually powerful. Brilliant stuff from two brilliant artists - not singers or performers - artists.
i am listen peter now since his days by genesis and he gets better from year to year... and his live shows are the best on earth... and kate bush with wuthering heights was my first lp ever... but still one of the best i ever bought... peter and kate are really one of the best of all time...
One of the times I was homeless, I tried hard to settle down in a different state. I was moved to a different program before I could settle. I stayed there and left within 4 months. My own apt, car, job. I couldn't settle with my kids not with me so I worked like crazy. Years passed, kids were back. I paid all my attention to them and my boyfriend. Years passed. Boyfriend cheated, stole, broke my heart forever. Kids moved out. I got sick. Had to stop working. Had to understand my new limitations. Moved in with a guy. Very bad, abusive. I was homeless again. It's hard to be homeless when you use a wheelchair. I'm thankful that I can still walk, just not far. Moved. I was still dating mean guy. Moved to be away from him yet he still came around. And I let him. One day I just told him to get out of my life. He tried once to get back with me. I had the strength to say no! Now, I've put pictures up, decorated. I haven't had that for years. I feel comfortable with myself. Still trying to understand and work through my pain. It's not easy, but it's possible. Don't Give Up!
@@vanjalavoie550 it really is, one step at the time, small steps towards big happiness and inner peace. I really wish you all the best, enjoy every day of your life, fellow human.
I played this for my mum last year, when she was battling cancer. It's been 11 months since she passed, and this is the first time I've heard this since then. Brings out all the pain that lives in me.
Beautiful song. Gives you a lump in your throat. Peter Gabriel's whole "So" album from 1986 is awesome. "In Your Eyes" is a beautiful song, too. And the videos for "Sledgehammer" (No. 1 pop song) and "Big Time" (No. 8) had groundbreaking stop-motion and computer-generated animation back in the day and are still very fun to watch! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-B3kFPBtc9BE.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OJWJE0x7T4Q.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PBAl9cchQac.html
You feeling it too, man? Always loved the song, but I got tears from it that time... everything that's going on in the world right now, we need to hear more music like this.
I had been listening to this for years before I got the meaning of the words "Gonna stand on that bridge ... .... that river's flowing" The dark centre of the song. This is really a song that needs reviving for 2020. Love it. Thanks for giving it air time.
Been waiting for this one! Always loved it. Now for some more Kate Bush: Running Up That Hill, This Woman's Work, The Man With The Child In His Eyes, Hounds of Love, and Wow, just to name a few 😉. Keep 'em comin', hon!
I love this song, it's very emotional, and it does have a great message to it One of the things I love about Peter Gabriel is his willingness to be vulnerable. Guys will get this macho bs pushed onto them, and it's unhealthy. In a video like this, it reminds me that it really does take a lot of strength and character for a man to be open about his fears and weaknesses, to show that he doesnt have it all together and needs comforting. So many people are afraid to do that, and work too hard to maintain an image that they're too strong and cool for that. That image is like a prison. In the song his life has gone wrong, he's lost all the things that made him feel in control of his life. I think the best message someone in that position could hear is that their value isn't about what they have or what they do or if they're having "success". But that they're still so valuable and loved even at times when they have nothing to give.
I only cry when no one is watching, I didn’t even shed a tear when I had to turn off my Dads life support or at his funeral..... you are so right it’s very unhealthy and only recently at 47 I am c9ming to terms with my emotions x
The song was inspired be Depression Era photos he saw. Of the video shoot he said there are worse ways to make a living. Just stand there and hug Kate Bush.
Nevermind making a living, I'd be happy to hug either of them for free. It would be a great opportunity to thank them both for the wonderful music they brought to the world. :)
Both these singers have very unique voices. Kate's got deeper as time went on. Please try Babooshka (official video), Hammer Horror (performance at Hammersmith Odeon), and Running Up That Hill.

Two amazing performers, working to create the perfect song and video. With respect to all the others involved in this timeless masterpiece. Oh.... nice reaction!
Always loved this song. And always brings a tear to my eye. :'-) Btw, since you were brave enough,(and awesome enough!) to listen to "Wuthering Heights", may I make a request to listen to 3 more of my absolute favorite Kate Bush songs? (1) Running Up That Hill (2) Hounds of Love & (3) This Woman's Work" ? Thank you for your wonderful content. I really enjoy seeing your reaction videos. Very well put together!! :)
I LOVE to watch you REALLY LISTEN AND ALLOW YOURSELF TO BE MOVED BY THE MUSIC! I believe that is what has been missing in "reaction" videos... Not yours! Keep reacting! The other posters have FABULOUS additional Kate Bush suggestions!
This is such a fantastic, beautiful collaboration. I'm not ashamed to admit I've cried a few times hearing it. My favorite part is Kate encouraging him with "rest your head" through to where Peter sings the "Got to walk out of here" part like he's a man at the end of his rope. Personally, I would recommend further exploration of both artists' work, including PG's time with Genesis.
I can read all the words in this song on your face, in your heart and the experiences you had to have in your life. I had tears in my eyes because I felt the same feelings based on my own experiences in my life. As Kate Bush put it, you're not the only one. - As if the world had only one soul. And we all carry these within us. thx for your Reaction and greetings from far Germany. And bless you what ever you believe in. (and sorry for my bad english ^^).
Wonderful song, totally unique and up there with the very best. Both of them have to a fair degree shunned the limelight and followed whatever path their talent took them rather than "selling out", in fact this was probably as close to "selling out" as either has come and it is a total joy. Also check out some more of Peter Gabriel's - Solsbruy Hill, Red Rain, Games Without Frontiers and Big Time to name a few.
I wish you all the best! You will be in my thoughts. Thanks for sharing that ALL of us need to take this seriously and even we are tired of this we can’t let up.
This was on Peter Gabriel's album, 'So', there isn't any average song on it. I love that album so much ,I still have it. Kate's voice is just so perfect with Peter's. The' stand on the bridge' line always reminds me of the scene in, 'It's a Wonderful Life' where Jimmy Stewart is contemplating suicide. This is a very powerful and soulful song and the video is perfect.
Two incredible and unique artists. Check out more from both of these amazing talents individually...but be careful, one you fall for Kate Bush and her music / artistry you're hooked..trust me lol.
This was, of course, released around the time of what I suspect was peak unemployment in the UK (1986). It's a very real reflection of the (male) existential angst about being without work.
I'm proud to be a dude telling another dude that i love him ... u have obviously such a good and soulful heart..... u FEEL this ..... that's human.... ;)
The song was inspired by the Depression-era photographs of Dorothea Lange, showing poverty-stricken Americans in Dust Bowl conditions. Gabriel saw Lange's images in a 1973 book titled In This Proud Land. He felt that a song based on this was wholly appropriate to difficult economic conditions in England under Margaret Thatcher. He composed lyrics about a man whose unemployment causes stress in his domestic relationship. The verses, sung by Gabriel, describe the man's feelings of isolation, loneliness and despair; the choruses, sung by Bush, offer words of hope and encouragement. Gabriel originally wrote the song from a reference point of American roots music and he approached country singer Dolly Parton to sing it with him. However, Parton turned it down, so his friend Kate Bush took her place
I remember when this song came out. It happened during the recession in the early 80’s when all the plants were closing down. There were no jobs. Suicides. Marriages breaking up... including mine. It was a rough time.
I so hope that you have people around u who will add to ur strength! And not abuse your vulnerability. Because you seem to have come such a long way and im proud of you. 💛
Thanks for a heartfelt review. As I was watched your reaction it echoed my own when I first saw this video years ago. A lot of people find this song as a sort of downer when in reality it is anything but. It’s about as human a story as you’ll ever hope to see. Cheers!
You know how black folks say "Bro" or "Bruh"? Well, primarily in the deep south we white folks say "Bub" aka "Bubba" which means brother. When I was a little girl I always called my big brother Bubba. So, if I ever address you as "Bub" that's what it means. That being clarified, all I can say is I love all your reactions, Bub. You bring joy to my life. Love ya, Bub!!!!
Glad you done this 1 cause what I’ve seen so far of reaction vids you actually feel the emotion of the music you play , this 1 is very difficult not to be affected by cheers for getting round to it
This album was a protest album for the people of South Africa and this is basically a message to those workers and other song being about a journalist. The album is much deeper than people think
Thank you my friend for your beautiful sensitivity. About this song, we forgot how a man and a woman can also be united by fraternal ties, as one flesh.
Loved it then and still do! Beautiful! Check out “Sledgehammer” by Peter- now it’s much different but was a HUGE hit in the 80’s! . The video was ahead of it’s time back in the day- and the lyrics are a euphemism-😉. ❤️🤘🏼✌️
