Sinead was exceptional in every sense, her voice, her beauty and her heart. She fell to earth to make us feel. You are now back in the sky to forever shine, Beautiful Star.
Sinead is absolutely stunning in this video. Considering what emotions she must have went thru at the end its sad to hear her sing "Don't give up 'Cause you have friends Don't give up You're not the only one Don't give up No reason to be ashamed Don't give up You still have us Don't give up now We're proud of who you are Don't give up You know it's never been easy Don't give up 'Cause I believe there's a place There's a place where we belong" Life can be very tough no matter who you are and she went thru a lot of tough times, especially with her son dying. Hope she is with him now. RIP
Not many nations in the world had Sinead O’Connor, Sting & Peter Gabriel together among a few other helping to cheer up the crowd after a hard dictatorship … Chileans owe so much to these noble people and we owe Chileans their humanity ❤️
Sinbad O'Connor was an absolutely natural gorgeous woman. That side profile of her at the beginning of the video just shows how beautiful she was, and that is all natural beauty. No plastic surgery, no lip injections, no fillers, just pure natural good looks.
I cannot believe I was there. I felt satisfied just by seeing and listening to Peter for the first time in my life. He was not supposed to come to Chile for that concert, but Sting (and SO ;) ) were convincing and compelling, respectively. I really did not notice the bugs very much, because the whole show was quite a mess and Gabriel and O'Connor were mostly enjoying each other rather than rehearsing. Sting touched the right thing at the end. You probably know that the bass in 6/8 is central in the song. Not the drums, a little bit less the keyboards. I am impressed that Gabriel was able to get into the song in such a hostile company. He remembers the episode with his usual resilence. I have been lucky enough to attend 3 more of his shows and I can say this is his more adorable worst performance. But we all loved it. He gave this Chilean AI concert the meaning that everyone was expecting. And is beautiful that his relationship with SO started here, giving born to the album US, an intimate group of tales about failing, love, narcissism, and letting go (I love to be loved). Saludos campeones.
The drummer. ..and the keyboardist....were on a different planet...Peter looked like he was about to stop the whole train. Sting COULD have nailed it ...had he ....REHEARSED that end part.
With the loss of Sinead O'Connor be sure to still appreciate those who still walk the Earth today. May Allah grant Sinead O'Connor entry into Jannah. Please pray to God to give peace to the pained soul of Sinead O'Connor.
Farewell Sinead, you left a wonderful legacy to your family, fans & the world all over. Can't believe you achieved so much in 56 years. Loved your fighting & honest spirit. Sleep easy.
She will always be in our hearts a beautiful woman with a beautiful angelic voice...she was always mine and that's why I loved her... Sinead...it's too soon.. Rest in peace... Great loss .....
My favourite part of this is 3:05--as soon as Sinead starts singing, Peter Gabriel breaks out into a huge grin. He just can't stop smiling. That's how we all feel about Sinead & her beautiful voice.
Yeah it seems the keyboard was off. Because peter was looking for his cue and i have feeling this might not even been rehearsed. But they worked through it and the crowd loved it. That what matters. And rip to one of bravest giving women ever.
From Chile... a hug to hope, to eternity ....
OMG, the crowd is so kind when all is basically lost. I know just how this feels, because I've been there and done it too. When all the sheep get lost, its just becomes the blind leading the blind. I feel so sorry for them all. None of us musos ever likes this when it happens.
It was a memorable milestone in Chile, Amnesty International brought great and famous artists to Chile that we never thought we would see live. Sting had come as The Police, years before being very young and not so famous, to the Viña del Mar festival. Merry Christmas 2020 everyone, and a year 2021 with the Love of each other just as God loves us. 🙋🏻♀️💖🇨🇱
What happened to them was they realized that neither the musicians nor the engineer running the audio panel were going to support them, and they could try to out sing them or sound terrible. Instead of destroying their voices, they performed like professionals, knowing they were being made to sound like crap despite their talent. They didn't give up....
SO well said. As a performer, I was dieing a thousand deaths WITH them. I know what it's like to have teribble moniters and the engineer not responding to the problem. They were very nervous and did look like deers in the headlights.
@@chantepierce3530 I was wondering why Gabriel seemed to be speaking to the musicians behind him when the song was starting. It's also just the wrong song for O'Connor -- it's not in a flattering range for her so it's very awkward. It's perfect for Kate Bush. At the end of the song, Sting yells "Peter Gabriel" and "forgets" to mention Sinead O'Connor -- he's such a prick. It's really cringy, but witnessing Sinead's unpretentious, not surgically-enhanced beauty almost saves it -- when she smiles, the crowd erupts in applause -- she had that much charisma.
Peter handled this very well. He knew the second he sang his first note that the sound crew needed to do some adjustment, so he paused, and tried it again, to sadly not much improvement.
@@nicko6710 no they didn’t. Sinhead didn’t come in when she was supposed to. They handled it like pros and just played on until Peter found his place again.
@@goprodog4304 don’t try to justify his performing ability based on this live performance it’s clear he knew it could’ve been better but still went on with the show as a showman should you sound like a negative jackass “ secret world” was an amazing concert and I have the dvd and if you didn’t like that performance then your just asking for too much sorry that’s my opinion
this is a brilliant example of exceptional performers rolling with the proverbial punches. improv. god bless it. for what it's worth. and someone please bless the artists, musicians, singers and songwriters who get us through this muck
Amnesty International 1990, solidarity concert with Chile after the departure of Pinochet. It was something very special. A very merry Christmas 2020 to all.🙋🏻♀️💖🇨🇱🎄
Specifically came here to youtube to watch this. I don't know how I stumbled across a VHS of this when I was 16 (1991). I have had her on regular rotation for 30 years. Even had them tear out my CD player when "I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got" was stuck in there when I traded in my 1990 Ford Probe in 2004. I told them if they could get it out they could have the car - $0 trade in. That's the effect she had on people. RIP Shuhada Sadaqat. I almost typed that I was sorry she gave up, but she didn't. She chose to move on. Go hug your son, baby . . .
So superstars really do have tough nights too. It’s so utterly shocking the number of clams in this performance. And sting coming in with the octave base completely in the wrong key at the end was hilarious. They’re all such a pros they recovered clam after clam after clam.
She is so beautiful, she could've been miss Ireland. Instead she sang her heart away. She sacrificed her career to speak out about child abuse. If I had a medal of Honor I'd give it to Sinead o'conner.
Keyboards and drummer were just in their own world throughout this. I don't know if Peter pissed them off back stage or what, but they couldn't be any more obtuse and incompetent.
Even though everything goes wrong i still keep coming back here. You can sense this should have been one of the greatest ever live recordings. In the future an AI simulation will rehash this performance as it is supposed to go. Ha ha. I just love it!
@@theunwantedcritic I can see why you are the unwanted. You have not a clue what you are talking about. There were only a few songs of Gabriel's that had that African sound.
¿Alguien pifia? ¿Alguien se queja? No.Todos escuchan respetuosamente e incluso aplauden.
For those of you wondering why Sinead O'Connor is reading the music while singing her part in this duet ; Sinead had just recently ( at that time ) been recruited by Peter Gabriel for his Secret World Tour. Sinead replaced Joy Askew who had stared as duet singer and keyboardist for the earliest part of the Tour. This video is probably from a performance for Amnesty International ( in Chile, iirc.), while the Secret World Tour had been playing in North America. The Tour would end at Woodstock '94 , after Paula Cole took over when Sinead O'Connor left suddenly. (:
'You worry too much. It's gonna be alright' The kind of pep talk that was needed and fortuitously uttered right after a good performance was finally starting to take shape. And it all went well from there.
The best of the best make mistakes! It shows they are human and of course, not screwing around. Two years ago I went to a Puscifer show in Tampa Bay. For those that know, the lead singer is the singer of Tool and A Perfect Circle; one of the best and most flawless live singers and preformers around. They started the last song, Tumbleweed, in which Carina Round starts with two verses then he jumps in. Her banjo pick up failed but they continued on, but when Keenan jumped in he completely sung the wrong lyrics than what Carina was singing. He laughed, stopped the song, rewound the video and started over; just so the banjo pick up would fry again. In the end it was a beautiful rendition and again, it shows even the best make mistakes. It keeps it real and intimate with the fans at the show.
Always loved him and this is my first time seeing this. This is a classic example of how people can be so proud in their accomplishments that they think they no longer need to practice.
@@alandunne8950just got your notification of your comment and I watched this video again. Uhg what a disappointment. Smh I stand beside my original comment.
I’m a massive Kate Bush fan - huge. Saw her live etc. But if Sinead had actually sung on the original instead of Kate I think we would say no one could top Sinead. Both are the ultimate singers. This was a live version but Sinead would have killed it on a recording
It was not the best for her voice type, then. Fast forward a few decades, I think she would’ve had more to bring to it, and she obviously wasn’t rehearsed. I wonder what was happening in her life at the time…she seems so meek and nervous. Not like that young upstart I saw play Chicago Metro when the Lion and the Cobra was released…
Someone who was there says they were playing "Biko" at the start - wrong bloody song - and eventually got it together to play the right song…hhmmm…not impressive…Poor Peter.
Non ci siamo, non ćè AMORE, ALTRO CHE KATE BUSH,QUESTA SINNED Ľ HA FÀTTO X POCO NOBILE! MONEY? PIUTTOSTO RISPONDI NO ED EVITA DOVUTI FISCHIACCI CERCATI!!!!
Then you should see and hear the Kate Bush & Peter Gabriel version. For some reason, I believe that Peter Gabriel was dependent on the current mood of Sinead O’Connor here if he puts such long breaks in that beautiful song. They are both professionals, the performance could have been far, far better.
@@byte2702 Yes not enough soul in this version. Although Gabriel is really trying while O'Connor must use notes. The Peter Gabriel & Kate Bush version on the other hand is outstanding, soulful!
One of the worst things about the modern age is that a disastrous performance of a great song like this can live forever. I'm sure every participant is embarrassed and would want it never to see the light of day ever again, just like that unfortunate picture you put on MySpace in '95 that is still all over the place. :-)
