Mary's voice makes this outstanding and fabulous. Bob Dylan was a genius to write this mighty piece but it seems it was always intended for Peter, Paul and especially Mary. I love it! I am glad I was 10 years old when Dylan wrote this in 1964.
Mary's pissed. How does anyone make such beautiful music with just two guitars, a standup bass, and three voices? Friggin talent. And don't forget Bob Dylan, too.
One of his most prophetic songs, given today's situation. Have loved it since I first heard him sing it around early sixties. thank you for sharing this
Of course you're talking about Dylan. You know Dylan isn't singing the song in this video. Maybe you didn't know Bob Dylan wrote this song? Your comment is confusing???
It's a song that has always touched my heart since I was in high school, and it's a song that I want to leave for my children and grandchildren because of this world.
I have been into PPM since their beginning. I saw them at Carnegie Hall debut 1964 and at the peace and civil right matches. They could sing in any venue. Magical
No autotune. No tattooed, pierced, half naked, (pretend) dancers. No vocal fry!! No grating Millennial Whoop!! No unworthy, crap song, written by a corporate numbskull, according to a formula. No hundreds of thousands of dollars in equipment, just three voices and three instruments. And talent, plus practice. And a great song.
for this particular song - words & musik - alone the nobel price for DYLAN is quite appropriate. word by word the song fits exactly to our worldwide climate troubles...
Lyrics - Come gather 'round people Wherever you roam And admit that the waters Around you have grown And accept it that soon You'll be drenched to the bone If your time to you is worth savin' And you better start swimmin' Or you'll sink like a stone For the times they are a-changin' Come writers and critics Who prophesize with your pen And keep your eyes wide The chance won't come again And don't speak too soon For the wheel's still in spin And there's no tellin' who That it's namin' For the loser now Will be later to win For the times they are a-changin' Come senators, congressmen Please heed the call Don't stand in the doorway Don't block up the hall For he that gets hurt Will be he who has stalled The battle outside ragin' Will soon shake your windows And rattle your walls For the times they are a-changin' Come mothers and fathers Throughout the land And don't criticize What you can't understand Your sons and your daughters Are beyond your command Your old road is rapidly agin' Please get out of the new one If you can't lend your hand For the times they are a-changin' The line it is drawn The curse it is cast The slow one now Will later be fast As the present now Will later be past The order is rapidly fadin' And the first one now Will later be last For the times they are a-changin'
I don't see a tribute song here from peter and paul for mary went she died. But went judith durham died august 5th 2022 from the seekers they but out a tribute song for her too Called Carry Me here too
nothing. its about the world around, and we are all living in the same one, each one of us just has their own unique eyes to look with. No matter what you'd take, the world would keep on spinning and remain the same, It would only hurt your eyes. Don't do that, I'm sure you have ones. Drugs wont make anyone an artist
Oh dear! The thing that really bothers me about this is the verse that begins "Come mothers and fathers throughout the land". Now, you will notice in that verse the mood softens, and drops the strident delivery of other verses. Indeed, it's the only verse where a solo voice is used AND I know exactly why! It was a cop out! Somebody, Management? "Record company?" were obviously a bit nervous having P,P &M criticising and upsetting America's "mothers and fathers" ( and possibly affecting record sales) and so they were told to tone the whole thing down. It's disappointing and calls in to question their commitment to "the cause".
@@bonscottrocks1728 most folk singers wouldn't have a career without Dylan. Although he was the greatest song writer of the 60s he wasn't the greatest singer
