I heard PP&M sing this in concert when I was 17 years old. Now at 74, their rendition of this great song still brings tears to my eyes. They were so great!!!
for this particular song - words & musik - alone the nobel price fpr DYLAN is quite appropriate. word by word the song fits exactly to our worldwide climate troubles...
You can believe in anything you wish but always remember, we can always go forth asking for Ashem’s blessing but always remembering that here on Earth, His work must truly be our own
This is Bob Dylan's best song ever. Period. Peter, Paul and Mary knocked it outta the park with their usual umph! So many great quotes within this song. And, it could not be more relevant to today!
Hi in South Africa and I know this song sooo well we are going through tough times here.. we need a miracle .. load shedding is very bad no electricity after up to 10 hours a day . I live off the grid for five years now so can still be fortunate to listen and watch videos like this many people don't have water and electricity at all ...
Great memories, these were great times with their inspiration we all got off our backsides and changed things ,their music will always be relevant and live on forever,we all get old but the music and the memories live forever. ✌✌
I too was 17 when I saw this magnificent trio perform at the old Atlanta Municipal Auditorium...what a great memory and tribute to the great folk singers of those times!
Aloha from the Island of Maui, SMK! This song struck my soul like a lightning bolt, when I first heard it! I didn't really understand the deep biblically prophetic meaning, that I have come to know and have experienced in the 50+ years that have passed! We CANNOT make this world a better place! It MUST be cleansed by my God, Jesus Christ, who is a "consuming FIRE" against SIN, and everything that sin has corrupted, then comes a New Earth where Righteousness, Peace, Love, and Truth - will dwell! And those who love Jesus and keep His Commandments, will live forever with our Creator and Redeemer, and experience what we felt and longed for, when as "Flower Children" of the Hippie Movement - we sprang forth out the earth, as the Sun beams of Righteousness fell on us! All Glory to our God, who has done this! Your friend and brother in Christ, Maka'ala Stone
I saw them several times in concert before Mary was diagnosed w/ the cancer that eventually took her life; and they held those audiences in the palms of their hands.
bob Dylan never wrote a more relevant song. maybe blowin in the wind but its a close 1 & 2. the 60's were such a time of peace and love. I miss those times. but as they say. 'the times they are a changin". makes you cry a bit doesn't it ?
OI was there, there was the Cold War, CUBA, Jfk Assinated, MLK jr aand all the others who tried to change things, Viet Nam, somehow we still believed we could channge things?
I've heard many many versions of this great song but I think that this version is the best version because of the addition of John Sebastion's harmonica that clearly defines this version as the best of all of the other versions at least in my opinion. Sebastion was of course the leader of the very popular band ( The Lovinspoonfull )that turned out almost as many hits as the Beatles during the middle 60's. He is really great with that harmonica isn't he?!
I believed all of yours songs speaking the truth and I will always stand by you all I have always thought of you all being my family"s and my uncle Peter and Paul and my unant marry this is how I have always thought about you guy"s
iT WILL SOON SHAKE YOUR WINDOWS AND RATTLE YOUR WALLS FOR THE TIMES ARE THEY ARE A CHANGING! Wow that Dylan was one super poet and songwriter, and these three here PP & M, sing some of his stuff even better then Mr. Dylan.
This is all. What else you can say or sing? Thanks PPM. Look at our world! And look what PPM sang! Berthold Brecht wrote but did'nt sing. PPM did that.
I worked at a top concert venue in the 1980s when they did their last UK tour, because I was working I was unable to watch the whole performance but saw about half of it and they were brilliant especially the beautiful Ms. Tavers. The most unbelievable thing, however, was that the management of the theatre had to "paper the house" (give away free tickets) in order to get a decent audience. You can always tell a "papered house" because some people given free tickets don't bother to turn up, and so you get islands of people surrounded by empty seats.
Good to see Mary has finally got her own microphone. In the early days I always wondered why there was usually only two mics and she always had to share with one of the guys, always having to leaning forward to sing into it.
I think it had to do with the way they had to hear one another to harmonize and the technology in use. Also - notice the early Beatles "sharing" a mic while singing harmonies.
As good as Peter and Paul was, Mary was the most talented. I heard another version of this song where Mary made it very clear who did the best version of this song ever, it was Peter, Paul and Mary, I mean vs. Bob Dylan etc. Mary could take other peoples songs and make them sound better. Mary was a rare gift to us people in the 20th century.
This song is so true today with Russia 🇷🇺 brutally taking over Ukraine 🇺🇦. Our politicians need to hear this song and help Ukrain resist Vladimir Putin!
And once again the times are bout to change in 2016 everything will be different new technology will be born we'll have a new president and schools will have new reformed tests holographic will be born as well as so many other things too so this song is perfect to express that no song says it better than Peter Paul and Mary they're just still such a classic in this day and age
no I'm not I'm just saying that were getting new things in America like schools are getting new tests better than the old ones and new CD formats holographic virtual disk a flying car maybe even a huver car and were getting all other kinds of new technology too and building new buildings like my school's building an entire performance center and I'm sure a lot of other things are changing too. America is changing for the better it's getting a fresh new start and were finally getting the America that we deserve the America that should've been a long time ago so thats what I'm getting at. nothing bad.
and sure ill miss Obama he's been wonderful to this country I'm just saying that were gonna be getting a new one in 2017 I just hope to god that he's not a republican and this song I don't know weather it's about suppression or not but I'm just saying the general message is good and it matches with whats going on today thats all.
Can't understand how they were regarded as 'uncool' when I was young-but dont lhink they were heard much on the radio. Now I'm doing a lot of catching up. They were gteat!!
They were never 'uncool'. Neither was Dylan. Music slowly became even more of a 'product', and needed to 'advertise' a 'new model' in order to make money.
The harmonica player John Sebastian, is he the same John Sebastian who used to play with The LOVEIN SPOONFUL? I think this is the best version I once had on a PP & Mary LP about 20 years ago. It was that harmonica that made it superior to all other versions of this great song!
Randy Gathany I remember John Sebastion was my age. Just a kid when we were first turned on to these middle age musicians who sounded so good we didn't care how old they were, I mean like PP& M had 20 years on us maybe? I see another version where these three do this song in 1966 and at least Mary who makes the exact same natural moves as she does in this version, the only diff is she has a perfect figure then and is way past her physical prime in this version. To see it just look for this song. I remember the guy who uploaded it had the numbers 1323, knowx 1323. This song was probably recorded 20 years ago so that is why John Sabastion looked so much younger then PPM. If you can find that version on You Tube watch the way MARY makes all the same moves, only then she in 1966 had a perfect body.
Very beautiful could have been a little better if you had karolina protsenko and her violin 🎻 in the background. She's awesome and my angel of music with her violin 🎻 ❤️.
