The silence was deafening when the scores were read this warm August evening. Phantom Regiment video coverage at the DCI Finals retreat in 2008. The complete Tour Video can be purchased at: regiment.org
@@darthvader9969 Nah Will still gets a bigger scare factor to me, but Willie definitely had the fierceness to him. Especially over tour of 2015. Dude was amazing to watch every night we performed at the same show.
Ok. We get it. You think they're overrated. That's ok, you can have an opinion. But don't rag on Phantom just because you think they should have placed differently. The members of Phantom worked their butts off, just like the Blue Devils, just like the Cavaliers, and every other corps in DCI. If you don't like the scores, blame the judges. All PR did was perform their show as well as they could and it just happened to result in a gold medal. And who cares what their souvie booth people said, most of them either never marched or aged out long ago. DCI is not a place for people to hate on corps. So please, have a little respect for the members and especially the staff, many of whom are volunteers who just want to be a mentor and teacher. Say what you want, just keep this in mind.
These shows are so inspirational... To someone who has never seen drum corps, this would just seem like a bunch of people just marching around... but, to a true fan it's an emotion and a feeling all its own to see all the corps. Leaving your homes and devoting yourself to an organization, making memories with your new family... it's life-changing. Making history like the Phantom Regiment has... it's more than even life-changing. It is indescribable. I'm going to be a part of Drum Corps one day..
Well, they're the Phantom "Regiment" so they've always had a military-eqsue style of doing things, in terms of the way they carry themselves and the way they rehearse, perform, etc. They leave one dog tag on the field at the end of finals to show that they've left everything on the field with their final show.
And to say that I own one of the Gold and Brown Closer flags from this show... It makes me speechless. Indeed, this will be talked about forever! Phantom never ceases to amaze me!
My friend, just being on the field during finals retreat is an exhilarating feeling. Knowing that all the blood, sweat, and tears you shed the whole summer was all worth it.
It's interesting looking at this video year after year, I've realized that Rick Valenzuela was not kidding when he said that the 2008 Phantom Regiment would be remembered forever. Think about it there have been probably over 400 different field shows and 45 seasons in the history of DCI. Almost 10 years later we still look back at 2008 and think of it as one of the greatest seasons in DCI history due to the atmosphere that the corps and the fans put out that year and Phantom was the winner of a three horse race between them the Cavies and BD, in a season where all three corps put exceptionally good programs out on the field.
Every corps will give it's members a small do-dad to show that they marched with them. It's generally something you wear around your neck and has a significance to the group itself.
I think that some (or maybe even majority) are sick and tired of DCI shoving BD down DCI fans throat. I think it maybe started starting 1999'-ish when SCV and BD. When it was "tie" the fans in the stadium started to chant SCV SCV SCV, not BD. I think BD has become the "HEEL" group of DCI
I watch these videos just to hear the crowd roar when BD is called. While Phantom is standing in total class not moving and BD is looking at each other and moving around with total disrespect to Phantom, I am fist pumping and crying for Phantom. Does the crowd ever get this loud when BD wins? Didn't think so.
Davon Rodriguez change in judging sheets, different judges, change in how captions are judged and multiple other things. You will honestly just get a headache trying to compare scores and criteria of shows that are 8 years apart.
Davon Rodriguez because of the effect on the crowd, this show had heart and soul in it. Possibly the best marching show I’ve ever seen. One of the greatest ever.
Blue Devils and Cavaliers were amazing that night. They both should have been around 98.1. Phantom Regiment and Carolina Crown should have both been around a 95.25. In reality Crown should have probably beaten Phantom, the only caption Phantom should have even beaten Crown in was Percussion. Devils, Cavaliers, and Crown should have been 1-2-3 in Visual GE, Music GE, Colorguard, Hornline, with Phantom winning percussion. What a judging joke that night.
The funny thing is Cavaliers knew that Phantom shouldn't have won. They also knew that Phantom should never have beaten them either on semis or at finals. DCI has become one of the biggest jokes with this. That and putting a 17th place corps in finals in 2009. But the storyline of having the bankrupt corps win with a show lacking in visual GE and a colorguard that should not even be top 6. What a joke. Their guard is so bad, in 2011, they didn't even have them use rifles.
Probably the biggest joke of DCI 40 year history. Phantom Regiment shouldn't have even been within 2 points of either Cavaliers or Blue Devils that night. They had a very good show, but Visual GE they should have been 5th, and Colorguard should have been 6th. DCI gave them a gift that year so they wouldn't go bankrupt after all the bad financial management over the last decade. Phantom was definitely the most overated corps of the last decade. Should have placed 5th in 06, and 3rd(or 4th) in 08
