That opening bass, the walk...the slowwww pressure, knowing, what's coming, the anticipation: controlled. We all know what's coming, we're all waiting for it... Phil walks the stage probably counting every step to get through to the steps and to those drums. Awesome prep performance. And then the moment comes......Ecstasy if you love this...I don't know who can't love this.
Yes I was blessed in to see him live in DC- RFK Stadium. This was his opening act!! It felt like a spiritual experience that I never encountered before🙌💯💫 may God bless Mr Collins and his band. The powerful music that came from the 80s and 90s need to come back! AMEN !!
Here for my mum who bought me into Phil Collins as a kid, she passed last year so mum dropping this for u xxx Nam Nam Myoho Renge Kyo xxx peace and love 😎🙏
This live version blows away the studio version! It's so atmospheric. When he reaches the drum kit & plays that drum part like the expert he is, the audience goes nuts! FANTASTIC!!!!
Not only is everything you put true but it must have been hard getting the timing exactly right so he would get to his drums at exactly the right time which he did.
This was my grandpa’s favorite song in the world. Every where he went people knew him and gravitated to him. Loved by many. I remember him blaring it when I was younger. I miss you I love grandpa. ❤
No stage strippers, no radio versions playing on the speakers, just an ordinary looking artist using only his voice and instrument skills to wow the crowd. The 80s artists will always be lightyears ahead of today's so-called "talent."
music is evolving and getting better day by day ur just stuck in your way of thinking and not open to new music. I feel sorry for you because you miss a lot of really profound and great stuff.
Phil Collins a great singer , musician and actor. He's one of the best drummers in the world. Even today, I'm still listening to him as of 4/04/2024 .😊

I remember watching TV with my dad and my brother back in the days, before the world went insane. Tubbs and Crocket driving through the night with their dope cars were the real deal. Peak coolness.
So true! In '81 I was 13 years old and I did the air drumming just like today at age 55 when listening to that part. I just need to consider my shoulder and back pain a little bit while drumming.. Cheers!
The way he strolled casually down the stairs, across the stage and up the stairs again to arrive at precisely the right moment for the most memorable drum solo in rock music is just astonishing !
the pressure of not dropping one of those fkn drumsticks man!!! i`d be picking them up at least 10 seconds earlier for sure , Phil`s as cool as a cucumber like it`s nothing!
This version is atmospherically stunning and immersive. Phil Collins is one of the few remaining legends that doesn't need autotune or distortion. Just pure, unadulterated, musical talent. Fucking amazing! 🤘
It's May 2023. I have watched this video a couple of dozen times and it still gives me goose bumps each time. No other song video has ever had that effect on me and I'm 75 years old. There must be some magic here.
Every single step he take is learned. So good. You must learn. He's mother was en Actor. Sorry about my bad english. Genesis: a history. So you can learn what he did. I love this man more then my on life. It's true. Phil Collins as an actor. Buster and Fraud. Soundtracks: Against the Odds. Ok. The lovely hot together between Rachel and the Big Lebowski. So far so good.
Those 3 seconds when Phill enters with his drums are longer and brighter than the entire career of many current "artists"! I thank the universe for having lived my adolescence in the 80s and having enjoyed these magnificent talents!!!
He just walks round the stage and then sits down and does that sick drum sequence like the bad ass he is. Love this performance. They don’t make em like Phil collins anymore. I’m 37 and I know this.
Too bad! Saw many concerts over the 70’s to early 2000’s, at many venues in the Philadelphia area (when tickets were still affordable & obtainable), & saw 2 of his tours. They were absolute perfection! What a thrill!
3 steps too soon and he will stand at the drums like a guy waiting for the bus, one step too late and he blows the whole song. He's got one moment of perfection to make it all come together. This is how you know a master at work.Absolute brilliance.
@@peteanderson9577 something my dad says lol. Every time we watch Colombo he says "fella did that last time and got caught, you'd think he would learn" my father is comical.
@@philipmcnamara664 The first time I heard this song was during the first episode of Miami Vice when Don Johnson is driving his car through the streets of Miami on his way to confront his former partner about his betrayal.
Wow! I've seen Phil live many years ago in Oakland California. This brought me right back again. I forgot how absolutely badass this song is. The instrumental arrangement alone is mesmerizing and Phil jumping on the drums just rips the roof off.
THE GREATESS concert I've seen was Phill Collins many summers ago. He sang 2 hrs and 45 minutes, took a short breat and came back out for another 90 minutes. OMG ......... he even said he swallowed a bug there were so many moths flying . Great job.
My mother listened this song when she was young in her sleepingroom and now I’m listening this song to remember her because she passed thanks for the music ❤️
So sad to see, how this Legend's physical conditions are getting worse and worse. Stay strong Phil!! We love you!! And we wil never forget your music and drums!!
Brings back memories of my high school days. Being from San Antonio and knowing that he's a big Alamo supporter, he also donated a Bowie knife to the shrine. San Antonio has lots of Love for Phil!!!! Keep on jammin
This ranks on the "chill" scale with "Unchained Melody" with Bobby Hatfield, it never, ever fails and I've been around long enough to see that original telecast on Andy Williams Show, live.
Absolutely crazy in 2014! The entire audience clapped their hands to participate in the show. There was still no smartphone to disturb the public. Peace
This is one concert I sincerely regret missing! Never forget this amazing song for the start of the show Miami Vice! He is truly an amazing singer and drummer!
Me, just lost a pet who got me through the deaths of husband brothers sister mother and father all in the last 10 years. Miss her so much. All I can do to get through is listen to music.
My respect and gratitude to all who have served, more importantly to my beloved Vietnam War Veterans who may have never heard it...Welcome Home and Thank You. You are loved and I'm sorry for what you went through for a Country that did not deserve your sacrifice for us.
