Philippines: Nutrition crisis hinders children's performance in schools
An estimated seven million children across the Philippines suffer from serious malnutrition.
This problem is largely driven by inadequate access to nutritious food, lack of nutrition education, as well as poor health and sanitation services.
It also severely hinders children's concentration and performance at school.
Al Jazeera's Jamela Alindogan reports from the capital Manila.

Why bore more children? Children are innocent, the parents need to see how they will manage in their life ahead

Please try not to judge these people with 1st world values. Their world is completely different. Lack of education and access to fresh, affordable healthy foods is a widespread problem.

Do not be offended by what this honest Russian will say which is the truth: It is the total corruption of the social fabric of Philippine society as a whole that is unraveling everything that is wrong with the DAMAGED FILIPINO CULTURE as exposed by Teodoro Locsin in the 1980s and 1990s. How can farmers be motivated to give their best when they have to give bribes at every step of the way and by the time they reach the markets they have to give bribes to the protection gang rackets protected by the totally corrupt Filipino police protected by the totally corrupt lower ranking Filipino politicians? Out of 100% of expected net profits, the hardworking Filipino farmer will only get 30% to 35% of the expected net profits. He might as well give up farming for he is not working to better himself, he is working to fatten up the corrupt political and police system. And Filipino public education is twisted for there are no practical subjects such as growing survival foods and survival herbal medicines under the most direst social, economic, and cultural conditions and environments. Practicality of survival and thriving must be intertwined with academics. But none will do it for a rising and expanding middle class within a generation will change the class status quo and that is the key critical issue. What is needed is an armed humanitarian approach with full diplomatic immunity against the corrupt elements and people of the Philippines and maintain that approach for a full 2 to 3 generations, 4 generations just to be sure. How did I and we know that? Simple, we have Russian spies inside the Philippines that can pass themselves as filipinos for Russia is composed of more than 100 ethnicities and many of them can pass themselves as filipinos, that's how. We spy on you filipinos in order to know why you are in such a dire predicament and we already knew that for several years but everytime a 2sd party is formed to help you, your corrupt politicians and police and army tries to rip them off!

@@darthvader5300 Thanks for your comment. I did not know that police extort farmers in that country, but I'm not that surprised. Nothing is too mediocre to exist in the Philippines. That culture is so immoral and outrageous. Many Filipinos feed their roosters before feeding their kids. Everything is wrong with these people.

I have no problem with news, but the lack of divéristy in terms of how al jazeera portrays the philippines is shameful, killings - slums - abu sayyaf - poverty is the only source of news that they want to report, The philippines is beautiful country and they need to report about the good things about this country aswell, its always negative

I think it is a good and factual view. People need to be aware of the reality of some people. We should stop romanticizing too much as this does not improve the quality of life of those who do really need it, which are the poor. Only spreading awareness can help them.

And how do you want to portray the Philippines? Lie like most politicians in the Philippines?

Shalom comment intrusion : Maybe it's Time the Government invest in "Cantine scolaire" for the children to be well Feed & prep to achieve their schooling home work. Even if the salary are raise the inflation rate will still be a frontier to buy the daily essential need it nutrition for a poor - middle class family(ies) to sustain them self - Same with sanitary but they have to Choose Food or "Ménage" Yahla hope we never see hunger strike the future (children) of any Nation.

not sure of that coz as per Catholicism/Christianity, it's not being rich which makes it a sin, but the love, evil ,and greediness of money makes it. Being a monk is not popular in the Phils.

Henry Ford knew that a long time ago and applied it to his workers but today's present generation of industrialists does not share his wisdom.

This is NOT the whole Philippines. This title is misleading. They featured only a specific slum area there. There are wealthy and good areas in The Philippines.

The only thing I don't get for those poor/third world countries is why have so many kids when you know you are poor AF?
@fastlyane2
@fastlyane2 7 лет назад
aziatiklover because these women have no education nor funds... society says their purpose is to have babies which is natural. Men work women have kids. but just like in Africa and just like in the States. The poor have the most kids due to the lack of knowledge and promotion meaning society deems them average or like everyone else. If America says all women are the same and no special privilege was givin, America would have the same outcome. Basic Economics 101

Their policies are tied to the catholic church, which has an ominous influence in the Philippines. This is what happens when you let religion, whether it's christianity or islam influence laws and social norms- society always gets stunted and fails to progress.
