Phillipa Soo & the cast of Camelot: “The Lusty Month of May” at Lincoln Center Theater Filmed & edited by Shoshana / @bwaySHO #PhillipaSoo #lustymonthofmay #Camelot #CamelotBway
The crescendo at 3:05 is the most amazing thing I have ever heard. Not only is the volume increasing but the openess and energy of their voices catalysed ny the energy Phillipa inspires her colleagues with to convey meaning. Sooo good 🎉🎉😢
Can’t wait for the cast album to come out because I know this song will be on my playlist plus Phillipa Soo is killing it as always EDIT: I just found that Valerie Torres-Rosario is in the show not only as an ensemble cast member but she’s also the understudy/swing for Guenevere
You answered the question that was nagging me the entire time I could see her clearly! I was like "Why does the girl in the yellow shirt look SO familiar?" Now I know why. That makes me way happier to know than I expected.
GUENEVERE: Tra la! It's May! The lusty month of May! That lovely month when ev'ryone goes Blissfully astray. Tra la! It's here! That shocking time of year When tons of wicked little thoughts Merrily appear! It's May! It's May! That gorgeous holiday When ev'ry maiden prays that her lad Will be a cad! It's mad! It's gay! A libelous display! Those dreary vows that ev'ryone takes, Ev'ryone breaks. Ev'ryone makes divine mistakes The lusty month of May! Whence this fragrance wafting through the air? What sweet feelings does its scent transmute? Whence this perfume floating ev'rywhere? Don't you know it's that dear forbidden fruit! Tra la la la la! That dear forbidden fruit! Tra la la la la! GUENEVERE & CHORUS: Tra la la la la [etc.] GUENEVERE: Tra la! It's May! The lusty month of May! That darling month when ev'ryone throws Self-control away. It's time to do A wretched thing or two, And try to make each precious day One you'll always rue! It's May! It's May! The month of "yes you may," The time for ev'ry frivolous whim, Proper or "im." It's wild! It's gay! A blot in ev'ry way. The birds and bees with all of their vast Amorous past Gaze at the human race aghast, The lusty month of May. CHORUS: Tra la! It's May! The lusty month of May! That lovely month when ev'ryone goes Blissfully astray. Tra la! It's here! That shocking time of year When tons of wicked little thoughts Merrily appear. It's May! It's May! The month of great dismay. GUENEVERE: When all the world is brimming with fun, Wholesome or "un." GUENEVERE & CHORUS: It's mad! It's gay! A libelous display! Those dreary vows that ev'ryone takes, Ev'ryone breaks. Ev'ryone makes divine mistakes The lusty month of May!
In case you didn't know, Camelot isn't a real place, so they can make up whatever they want. And anyway, in musical theater they often focus on skill rather than looks. If race has nothing to do with the show, then they often do colorblind casting since talent matters more. Or at least, it matters more to people who care about quality. And this has been a tradition for decades so you seem quite behind on this. Lea Salonga, for instance, is widely considered one of the best Eponines ever, despite the character being white and she being Asian. Luckily the casting people didn't care and gave us one of the best interpretations of the character ever (not to mention her heavenly voice). I'm so glad some people understand that talent is what really matters 😊
