The Cowardly Paladin she's the unlucky sap that happens to be in the good place at a bad time. In Ace Attorney (game #1) she happens to be near the body and gets blamed for murder. In the last case of the original trilogy she happens to be the person in front of the body as well

The rule of thumb for Maya is that, in every Ace Attorney game she's in, she's gotta either be accused of a crime or kidnapped

Ever since the DL-6 Incident, where Misty Fey channeled a dead man and he gave the wrong name for his murderer, spirit channeling hasn't been accepted as evidence in the court.

Not if they wanted to ask someone what killed them, yeah, but she could've done it just to check if he was actually dead, since you can't channel someone who isn't dead.
