Agreed I have a long family tradition of military service. One grandfather was a combat engineer, another a supply sgt, dad was a medic, brother mp, I was in commo. Any service is 🎖 honorable. Those SEALs will tell you they can't do ANYTHING without support. For every direct combat soldier it requires like 10 or 15 support personnel.

Expect to wait 284 years for a response......seriously, six (6) months is the average wait time. You may also investigate the county clerks office that your Father resided upon his separation from active duty military. Depending on how long your Father has passed, the funeral home may have his DD214 in their records if that facilitated obtaining either a federal marker or Presidential Certificate.

I agree with you whole heartedly! About 12 years ago I knew of a guy named Ian who worked as a gas station clerk since dropping out of high school. He had been doing that for about 5 years and was very good at his job, always cheerful, regardless of his circumstances. Ian's parents were drug addicts who didn't take care of him. By the age of 15 he left his parents house and lived in a camper shell, on the ground, off of some old abandoned property. Where we live, it rains a lot so you can imagine the difficulty altogether. He would scavenge what he could for food and clothes and use the high school locker room showers. Once he turned 16, he got his gas station job and left school so he could afford to survive. He saved up and eventually rented out a room from some not so savory folks, similar to his parents place, but it's what he could afford and at least he had food and money in his pocket now. Things seemed to be looking up for Ian, except he was lonely. All attempts to get the attention of young women failed as he didn't have the cool clothes, car, place of his own and could hardly feed himself. He was also dealing with the constant, daily onslaught of people degrading him, talking down to him and treating him like a second class human being simply because he was a gas station attendant without much in life. But what Ian lacked in material matters, he more than made up for in his generous heart and positive attitude. Ian was the type of guy who never wanted to see someone else down or sad. Unfortunately, these stresses proved too much for his glowing personality and our society succeeded in snuffing out a bright light as it frequently does. Ian was 21 years old. I bring this up for two reasons. First, treat people well. Go out of your way to give someone a smile as even those who are smiling may be going through pain. Second, take pride in what you do and never let others put you down for what you do. Be patient and eventually the right people will come into your life. It may take years, but it is certainly worth the wait. As for money and employment? Keep working hard and you will build yourself an empire, just have patience and keep strong. Last, I know all of this because my ex went to high school with Ian, while I was a shift leader for about 18 months at the Taco Bell and Subway that was attached to the gas station, it was a truck stop.

We turned around immediately so it was a couple of months before I got to visit and she showed me the couple of photos. She asked if I was in one of the pictures and I pointed to a random speck and said, "Sure was! That's me right there." It never ceases to amaze me how guys that did in fact serve can’t be proud of what they did. Service is service. My father in law was a barber and mechanic in the USN. He was proud as hell for his service. He is buried in the military cemetery, I got him the hat from his ship and he wore that with pride. Veterans Day he was a peacock. No war stories, no black ops, just plain old “boring” service to the nation in a way they asked him to do.
