In this video, I use selections, curve adjustment layers and the gradient tool to create a high concept, fine art image of downtown New York City. The image is a long exposure shot taken with my Nikon D850.
Hi Jay, a really simple to understand tutorial with no complex explanations! I would really be interested if you can show us a tutorial with fine art photo editing in color instead of monochrome as we are normally used to seeing now. Especially how one can choose the gradients when the image is a color photograph. Looking forward to that!
lovely edit Jay and this is one of the locations I want to definitely visit when I am in NYC as there are several compositions from here that I would love to capture
Thanks Jim. It is a great spot. Great views of the Brooklyn bridge and Manhattan bridge from around there. I did an earlier video in this location which might be helpful. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out.
Hi, Jay! Another outstanding tutorial! I've watched a good number of your videos. In your preface you typically mention making global adjustments in Lr then editing in Ps. Because the image will become a TIF file when returned to Lr, do you ever find the TIF image has changed (color, contrast, exposure, etc.) when viewed in Lr? Does the overall resolution suffer when going from RAW to TIF? Do you ever find yourself applying more Lr adjustments (as a TIFF) after editing in Ps? If so, does Lr respond similarly to a TIF file as it does to a RAW file?
Several photographers are creating a plague on the Internet. They seem shy of saying what it really is. They all too often mean monotone artistic photography. In reality it is no more fine than colour. People are entitled to prefer monotone so why not admit it instead of suggesting something it isn't? It certainly isn't better than the richness of colour.
I believe it is your iPad. I did not see it on my screen, but I did when I watched the video on my phone. Sky gradients often do result in banding. I can typically deal with it in post but it is annoying.
