My son just told me about the kid in his science class and how he misbehaved and distracted other kids. I asked him, “Oh he must have been called out for his bad behavior. You must be having a hard time putting up with him, right?” I was so happy to use these expressions at the right time during the conversation with my son. Thank you!!❤

I noticed something interesting with the phrasal verb "come down with", ie : 1) come down with "a cold"; 2) come down with "the flu"; and 3) come down with "covid". Why is there an "a" or "the" before the noun or totally without anything before it sometimes? Is it wrong to say "come down with cold" or "come down with flu"?
@AccurateEnglish
@AccurateEnglish 4 месяца назад
Yes, if it's a name like "COVID", we don't use any article. The "flu" always needs "the". Articles rules are very irregular. : (

Great video as always. In my workplace, when someone calls work to say that they can't work today; to let the manager know that he is going to be absent today, they say, "call out". For example, "Chris called out today. Can you stay later?". Or, "Hey, I haven't see John today, did he called out?". So "to call out" also means to be absent from work? Or is it just a regional thing here in the Northeast / Mid-Atlantic states (NJ)?
