In this masterclass, professor Hugh Tinney is accompanied by young piano student Miré Jeong who is playing Schubert's Die Klavierstücke in E-flat Major. Professor Tinney proceeds to discuss the piece's structure, including the contrast between the darker sections and the more beautiful A-flat minor section. Together, they note the importance of balancing the left and right hands, with the left hand needing to stay below the right. Professor Tinney provides feedback on Miré's playing, suggesting bringing out the right hand more and adjusting the pedaling. Overall, the session focuses on balancing the hands, changes in harmony, and pedaling. To professor Hugh Tinney's joy, Miré demonstrates great musicality and musicianship in the second half and the session concludes with a reminder to be alert to balances in future performances.
