I often add 2 new holes to die cast speaker frame flanges, tapped number 10 fine machine screw threads.. They can accommodate 'holding' screws used as handles for mounting, or alternately, as jacking screws to lift off the driver frame from an enclosure after time has passed and they 'stick' in place.

My 15inch sub weighs 90+lbs by itself, i had a double layer 3/4inch birch box for it wich added another 150lbs to it. It was a paint to move around. It also only had 8 screw holes but i drilled them out slightly so i could use large full thread spax screws.

Impulse Audio the last time I dislocated my shoulder and had surgery was around 10 years ago at work falling down a ladder... long story... it hurts the same each time when it goes out and seems like the bone sits in a nerve and sends shorting pain down your arm and the rest of your body. Now they put you to sleep but when I was younger they just gave me laughing gas when they put back in. The last operation worked and so far my shoulder feels great. Now I try to be extra carful because of having kids and wife mortgage payment ect ect just like you we need the pay checks to keep coming in lol.

Flip the subwoofer facing the wall, the suck out should end up being 3rd order then you can just place a absorber at the wall that is causing the SBIR or room mode. And if I had subs that large I will crossover it over around 120hz, get biggest slam possible. But yeh, I'm not the expert and maybe your using it for movies not music.

They look great and it's a very nice build.. I've never elected to use fiberglass insulation because the fiberglass particles have a tendency to move around in the enclosure and work their way into the spider and eventually get into the voice coil potentially causing issues later on.
@ImpulseAudioSpeakers
@ImpulseAudioSpeakers 5 лет назад
Almost Zen I hear this a lot, and yet I’ve never seen a real world example of it actually happening. If the speaker is ported I use grill cloth inside the enclosure and staple all the insulation behind it, just in case. With sealed though I don’t bother.

hi bro i have watched all your work on you tube and i can say i wish i new just 10 precent but i read a whole lot about the subject and never seen your opinion about time aligning issues which says the tweeter sound reaches the listner way ahead of the sound of the woofer which makes it some times out of phase thats why some manufecters tilt the speaker back to correct it or put the tweeter back in a parllel position to the woofers voice coil to make the sound time correct not just phase correct....i wonder whats your opinion on this thx
@ImpulseAudioSpeakers
@ImpulseAudioSpeakers 6 лет назад
Hey, good question. Time alignment and phase are different, but closely related. I believe getting phase correct is very important as it affects the frequency response significantly as well as the vertical polar response. These are very important. Time alignment, meaning if the sound from both drivers reach you at the same time, is less important even though it sounds like a very big deal. Time alignment is often said to be important because it's easy to understand and sounds like a really bad thing. Fortunately, by correcting phase during XO work, time alignment often happens naturally. This doesn't happen with a second order XO which is why some people recess the tweeter or slope the baffle back to time align. What they're doing is really no different than fixing the phase, but calling it time alignment sounds more special.
@user-tk1tf8wq1s
@user-tk1tf8wq1s 6 лет назад
hi so what i can get from you is: using different slopes for the tw and mid might help with the issue and you say 2nd order might be a bad choice when it comes to time alignment ///will 1st order be better ?

Yes IB is a very good way to go for large drivers like this, but this one would have a steep roll off regardless because of the high Q. Also, the owner couldn't go IB, so we made the enclosure as large as possible.

How much do you charge to build 224" subwoofer Box
@scottlowell493
@scottlowell493 5 лет назад
Here is the problem I have with that box. It's more than math. Years ago, the then-awesome 15" TC sounds sub driver was way too much for a 1" thick baffle enclosure. The (now closed) VMPS speaker company made it's "Very solid sub" from a 2" thick baffle box with bracing. So did Triad- but with even more bracing. Anything less, and the enclosure would just rattle and hum. The 15" sub was about 225lbs with enclosure.

I would have thought this amount of bass is really only suitable for commercial size cinemas or at the very least large dedicated and incredibly well isolated home cinemas. Also, I would think if you have to much pressure change from the bass in the room it's going to damage your hearing if not your body.
@ImpulseAudioSpeakers
@ImpulseAudioSpeakers 5 лет назад
MaZEEZaM might damage your hearing, but it sure is fun :) Not as crazy loud as you’d think. Very realistic bass. No distortion at all. Sounds so clean compared to what we’re use to hearing. And most hearing loss studies suggest loud low frequencies are less harmful to hearing as midrange frequencies.

Hey man im new to your channel.Love it. Just one question. How come a sealed box and not ported?
@ImpulseAudioSpeakers
@ImpulseAudioSpeakers 5 лет назад
john o'neill glad you found it. Ported would have had to be very big to be tuned right. Also, sealed gives you better low frequency output when it gets very very low, like 10 or even 5hz. That’s the stuff you feel in some movies (not all). Ported is better in the 20hz range and for most people ported is the best choice. In this case the owner wanted the boxes as small as possible.

@ImpulseAudioSpeakers
@ImpulseAudioSpeakers 6 лет назад
Graham Bond good catch. Stuffinh does very little for a subwoofer, unlike a typical woofer with a bandwidth up to +500hz. It does help tame high Q and smooth out that inductance hump and does help absorb any internal reflections at higher frequencies. Even if the XO is set to 80hz or so, there is output from the sub up to 200hz or so. Not sure anyone could ever hear the difference between stuffed and not, but can't fathom not putting it in there.

sealed box design for flatter bass response?
@ImpulseAudioSpeakers
@ImpulseAudioSpeakers 7 месяцев назад
I can’t recall what I said in this video, but generally a sealed roll off will blend with room gain to give a very flat response down to single digit frequencies where as ported has a steeper roll off below the port tuning. In an anechoic condition ported will be flatter down to the port tuning only.

@ImpulseAudioSpeakers

A higher impedance means less current demand. Bridged 8ohm is equivalent to 4ohm each channel. Which is less demand than 2ohms each channel.

@@ImpulseAudioSpeakers also..why do amps offer more power in lower ohm loads? Bridged 8 ohms 1000watts vs Bridged 4 ohms 2000watts?
@ImpulseAudioSpeakers
@ImpulseAudioSpeakers 3 года назад
@@iyona14granturismogt6gtspo7 a lot of subs are low impedance so that you have the option of drawing more current out of the amp. Especially in car audio. If the amp is comfortable at 2ohms, better to use 2ohms instead of 8ohm so you get more current draw (therefore power output). But if the amp is a bit unstable at those powers then it’s better to use 4 ohm or 8ohm. So not necessarily better, just a matter of most suitable.
@ImpulseAudioSpeakers
@ImpulseAudioSpeakers 3 года назад
@@iyona14granturismogt6gtspo7 halving the impedance draws double the current therefore double the power (watts). But a lot of amps can’t handle this and will get hot or blow fuses.

@ImpulseAudioSpeakers
@ImpulseAudioSpeakers 6 лет назад
Erik Britz as a DJ I’d probably trust the Crown more but that’s not based on a bad experience with the berry. Just a history of good success with Crown. For home theatre the crown is dead quite and the fans rarely come one. The berry is loud. The crown also has rca and the panel lights can be turned off. It’s a nicer amp. But if you’re not worried about the behringer reliability (and there’s really no reason you should be) then for DJ work the berry is nice because it’s 4x.

You measured the coils in parallel and built the box based on that but the install was in series. Don’t the parameters change based on the wiring of coils?
@ImpulseAudioSpeakers
@ImpulseAudioSpeakers 6 лет назад
James Warren a little bit is all, but with a sealed box it actually measured very little what the parameters are. With a subwoofer like this it’s basically build as big as you can then EQ the rest. There was no way the box design was going to achieve a Q below 0.8 anyways. But ya, doesn’t really change all that much regardless.

wow i would've thought the 24 inch sub could hit 10 Hz without sweat. sorry to say but that that near field response is disappointing even if it is closed box. 10 inch can do better than that. does it have super high FS? something is not right....
@ImpulseAudioSpeakers
@ImpulseAudioSpeakers 5 лет назад
WV591 well first off, no a “normal” 10” sub can’t do better than that. Second, no a 24” sub shouldn’t be flat to 10hz in a closed box. Large sealed subs like this rely on a roll off that matches room gain. This is very normally around 30hz in my experience/research. Lastly, it’s important to take the FR shape with a grain of salt. What if I had told you that the response was at 120dB. You’d then be impressed. But I didn’t include the sensitivity so you don’t actually know the ultimate performance of this sub. You just know that the shape will require extensive eq and ample room gain. Overall the sub performed quite well, but do wish the shape of the response was easier to work with.

I bought a Lab Gruppen FP14000 clone amplifiers and I am searching for two of these pierce audio 24''. I think I found them on alibaba (jld audio SAB24) but it is 600$ shipping each. How did you get them ?
@ImpulseAudioSpeakers
@ImpulseAudioSpeakers 5 лет назад
Michel CAYUELA no I’m not BassThatHz. I go by tuxedocivic on that forum. These subs came indirectly from Pierce Audio in Washington. He has a website and email. They’re not as cheap as the Alibaba subs that bassthathz purchased.

@@ImpulseAudioSpeakers Do you feel these subs would compare or be better than the big names? SVS PB 16 Ultra, Power sound audio V3601, JTR and so on?
@ImpulseAudioSpeakers
@ImpulseAudioSpeakers 5 лет назад
Richard Givher it’s probably comparable to the big PSA or JTR subs. Probably better than the smaller SVS. Size is very important when it comes to subs. The V3611 wouldn’t be my choice due to the height being double the width. But dual 18s would almost keep up to a 24.
@richardgivher835
@richardgivher835 5 лет назад
@@ImpulseAudioSpeakers So the single 24 would go deeper and produce more output than two 18's? I'm just getting into this stuff and there's a lot to learn, so forgive my naivete.
@ImpulseAudioSpeakers
@ImpulseAudioSpeakers 5 лет назад
Richard Givher no problem. Ask away. Yes in general a single 24 has more capability than 2 18s. Two 18s have some advantages, like two voice coils to handle the power, 2 wiring configurations (more if each driver is dual voice coil), if in separate cabs they have more placement options, etc. But in terms of output the 24 has a larger radiating surface therefore more Vd (assuming xmax is the same for the 24 and 18).

That is an amp issue. That response compared to the Behringer is a typical Crwon thing unfortunately. Get a Lab or Powersoft if you can swing it, or get an MC2. Crown has not been very good ever since Harman took over.
@ImpulseAudioSpeakers
@ImpulseAudioSpeakers 5 лет назад
ABOlsen69X ya I did some research on it after the test and discovered that. Not my amps but still sucks for the guy.
@AB-80X
@AB-80X 5 лет назад
@@ImpulseAudioSpeakers Yup. Btw, I've done quite a bit of testing with box dampening materials, and one thing I found is this. The pink isolation does not have the same properties as poly-fill. Yes it dampens the box so it becomes less boomy, but it does not offer the isothermal properties of poly-fill. When I used the pink stuff in the same amounts or less, as you would poly-fill, the response of the speaker did not really change. And if I overloaded the box it acted as a much smaller box. I think it has to do with the density of the materials and their ability to couple with the vibrations. When using the correct amount of poly-fill the difference was significant. Then it had the desired effect of cheating the driver into acting like it was in a larger box. For a box that size, it can only handle about 1 lb. of poly-fill per cf3. Any more than that, and it actually starts to take away enclosure space. Try it. You'll be pleasantly surprised.

The demo was pretty much useless. You can hear 0 bass. I think the camera was just in a bad spot.
@ImpulseAudioSpeakers
@ImpulseAudioSpeakers 5 лет назад
Vlad Lucian it’s because the mic on the camera can’t pick up bass that low. And then your speakers would have to reproduce it. Mostly the mic though. There’s really no good way I could do a proper demo of these things on RU-vid.
@Randommmmm204
@Randommmmm204 5 лет назад
@@ImpulseAudioSpeakers It should be able to pick up some kind of depth. It doesn't even sound like the subwoofers are on. And it's no problem on my end, I'm using some skullcandy earbuds (Don't judge. They were cheap and they actually sound half decent) which we all know have no problem in the bass departament. By the way, I'm sure the subwoofers are amazing. Certainly better than what I've got. I'm just saying the demo was bad.
@ImpulseAudioSpeakers
@ImpulseAudioSpeakers 5 лет назад
Vlad Lucian it’s really hard even for a measurement microphone to pickup under 30hz. My measurement mic needs about 15db of correction at 20hz. These are low bass animals and really the recording losses a ton of bass. I don’t have the response plot for my camera mic, but I do for many other mics. Don’t forget that bass demos on other channels often let their microphone clip really heavily and they end up recording harmonics. So if they play a 30hz tone the recording will have a lot of 60hz second order harmonics. This makes the listener think there’s a lot of bass in the demo because the 60hz tones are recorded. This setup is so clean that no false harmonics are recorded. Something to keep in mind when listening to other demos.
@Randommmmm204
@Randommmmm204 5 лет назад
@@ImpulseAudioSpeakers Yeah, it's interesting. But usually even when the mic is clipping you can kinda tell when it's a pure tone and when it's not.

@@ImpulseAudioSpeakers I was just wondering cause I seen most people use bolts and nuts with those subwoofers maybe overkill
@ImpulseAudioSpeakers
@ImpulseAudioSpeakers 5 лет назад
Zeth Spurlock if only using 8 then it’s not overkill. Probably necessary. But this driver basket had two additional spots on either side of the mounting locations to add screws. I had to drill the frame at each spot, but it was possible. Other frames don’t offer that opportunity so bolts are a better choice.
