Just wanted to say thank you a lot for trying this game out! I'm glad to see people are still enjoying it. Hard to believe 251 is nearing three years old, I've learned a lot since then, and hopefully I'll do 251 justice eventually. The Pikmin Hacking community has a lot to offer, and there's much more to come in the future.
I absolutely love what you did with 251! The theming for the Gambler's Den was really inspired. Thank you for pushing the boundaries of rom hacking in Pikmin!
my last 100% playthrough of pikmin 2 where I wasn't trying to go fast took about 12 hours IGT so it probably wouldn't be too different from mario. I'd be down for a pikmin 297
As a diehard Pikmin AND TF2 fan, seeing a sapper was really fucking jarring. I love it. Also, there is no worst 3D Mario game. (Out of 64, Sunshine, both Galaxy games, and Odyssey, I mean.) There isn't even a 'least good' one. Every other game may have improved on the formula, but 64 MADE the formula. It walked so they could run. It is to be equally respected.
IDK, I think Mario 64 controls really fluidly and is more dynamic and expressive than Galaxy (and maybe also Sunshine). Lots of routes you can take through every level, which Sunshine cut down on a bit and Galaxy outright eliminated. Plus there are no time-wasting cutscenes, so it's great to pick up and replay. I don't consider myself remotely a speedrunner and I love showing friends the 16-star route in 30 minutes. Galaxy might be my favorite 3D Mario thanks to how polished an experience it is from beginning to end, but I don't find myself replaying it nearly as much as 64 or Sunshine thanks to how long it takes to get to the more interesting fun levels. Also Pikmin 297 is hype.
I can totally see where you're coming from, perhaps it's because I started with the tight controls of Sunshine and grew up with the forgiving nature of galaxy but 64 has always felt clunky and messy to me. Of course I respect it and moderately enjoy it, but not nearly to the same extent as the other 3. Thanks for your response!
Sunshine had a lot of wonk with it's mechanics interactions while galaxy can be sometimes too floaty or annoying with the controller screw ups, the only major downside of 64 is it's camera at times and sometimes slipperiness on the terrain. Though as much people want to excuse it for it's iconic status, it's still a old game that aged, but compare to other 64 platforms, it has age fairly well.
16:33 to the two guys calling the spy’s electrosapper a remote controllers, i hope you have a constant feeling of needing to sneeze but you dont actually have to sneeze
16:12 oh that's the Electro Sapper from Team Fortress 2, it's Spy's secondary and it sabotages buildings made by the opposite team's engineers, really nifty to see it in the mod haha
I just realized its really easy to get into this cave without blues. all you really need to get in is whites for the bridge then you "take your pikmin for a swim" and break the electric wall down and get to the cave
Hot Take: Mario Galaxy 2 was way better than 64... Just from a gameplay polish and enjoyment factor. Of course there's no denying 64's impact on gaming as a whole, as Galaxy 2 wouldn't even exist without it, but still my point still stands.
16:19 I mean. I remember having a conversation with my brother like. "Hey, maybe we should stream our minecraft sessions." "...Nah, we wouldn't be any good. We're not dumb enough." :P Doing everything right and sensible just isn't funny, haha; you need a certain amount of bad decision-making. (Like, there's other genres of streamer, but they require a different approach and skillset, IMO.)
'64 may be the worst 3d mario' my guy galaxy 2 is right there. Otherwise I think 64 is a strong foundation that I wish the core control scheme would come back but in a game with much stronger environment/level design. Not everything needs funny space/water/hat gimmicks
I love Mario galaxy 2. I know it's just galaxy 1 but redone with new items but that's mainly because the idea developers for Mario galaxy 1 didn't wanna throw away any concepts that didn't fit in the first game. I agree with 64 being the worst tho. I get that it's an iconic milestone but geez the camera and general controls suck so much and you slip and slide everywhere Same with sunshine but that's saved by the great vibe and the controls that fludd gives you
@@realHeff They always felt too slippery to me. And really what kills it for me is having to mostly complete every world in order to beat the game, which isn't the best because there's a lot of frustrating missions that are made mandatory because of that
