The Pikmin community has been eager to explore the map of the upcoming Pikmin 4. Today, JohanW and I do just that using his recreation of the Pikmin 4 map, made meticulously using the trailer shots from the two trailers we have thus far. We’re going to break down each section of the area, get a look at the location’s overall layout, and look into a possible route that the player could take when moving through it, all of this using Johan’s map!

This recreation is insane! Something that I would like to point out is that the pumpkin, as seen from the trailer, is WAY too high to be collected by any normal means. Pikmin seem to have a shorter throw arc, and yellow Pikmin definitely cannot go that high. Even if the wing pikmin repeated charging exploit from pikmin 3 deluxe is still possible, the pumpkin is still too high to be reached. It does not appear it can be dropped down to from a higher area either, based on the map. Could collecting it require a new pikmin type, like the one from the concept art that could form ladders?

Man this video is giving me a taste of playing Pikmin 4! Aw man I can’t wait… I freaking love how many branching paths there are, I actually have OPTIONS again!!! Pikmin 3 could never… Also, how many cave entrances are visible? I think I counted 5?? That’s a lot! I hope that doesn’t mean we just get a bunch of really short, 3-5 level caves, that would definitely kill the difficulty of trying to conserve Pikmin. But if they’re full caves like Pikmin 2, then Pikmin 4 could wind up being REALLY long which I would really love!

It looks like there’s more than one area from what we’ve gone though. If that’s the case, it seems like there’s a good chance that these caves are of the length and scale of Pikmin 2’s caves, if maybe a little briefer. That being said, it looks like the area that houses them is ALSO significant. This might be the first seriously lengthy Pikmin title!

This is a fantastic Video, It really gets me excited for Pikmin 4. And I have a theory on why there are two landing sites very close to each other. What if you can decide where you land, as in, you can plan your own landing sites and where you want them to be. Before the start of each day, you would be able to pick a spot for your Ship to land in. I'm guessing there are areas you won't be able to land in, as to not cheese the game, but I could definetly see this happening

This video is AMAZING. I love Johan's map absolutely and both your interpretations. It's really exciting!! I would love to see another analysis like this (with the 3D map and all!!) from the second map we've already seen on the trailer (the Spring one). I tried to draw it myself (i got a video on that) BUT i lack all the drawing and 3D-art skills required to do what Johan did!! 😂😂 Great job, guys! And I can't wait to see the next trailer!! We are just 50 days away from Pikmin 4, I can't believe it's been that long!!

Very impressive map! Good job JohanW! Looking at the map like this makes me think it's much more likely that Pikmin 4 will not be open world, but each area will be really big. There seems to be walls surrounding this entire area, so unless there's some way to go over or under them, this area looks to be contained. On an unrelated note, it looks like Pikmin 4 will keep up Pikmin 2's trend of having 3 or 4 caves per map, unless there are more caves that we can't see from the trailer, which is also very likely.

I'm right there with you on all of this. Another thought: if these are the four caves in the area, it seems the overworld is absolutely significant on its own outside of just being a hub for caves. Which is really really good, that would be a huge step up from Pikmin 2's main areas which are fun but admittedly not much.

That's true. I recently replayed Pikmin 2 for the first time in a while, and it really struck me just how more much time is spent in caves compared to the overworld. This game having bigger areas but the same number of caves per area as Pikmin 2 would better balance the ratio between time spent in caves and time spent above ground

This is a great video! johan did a great job on the map and it really helps me understand the map as a whole. When they first showed off the map I was worried because it didn’t feel like a Pikmin map to me but after seeing this my worries are gone

This video makes me excited to get my hands on this game and focus on nothing but exploration, these videos you make get my day started! One thing I noticed was that you didn't talk about some of the more vertical bits from the trailer, like the dirt wall the MC climbs up after the pikmin build it or break it or whatever it is they do, unless it's part of a different map?? There's an added layer of verticality to this game and it's very exciting to see where we'll be able to go!

Some of these other shots, such as that wall, are either from a different map or a part of this map WAY far off that doesn’t seem to connect together with our whole! That said, those shots have me even more excited for the future of this game

I think there ist going to be like 2 more trailers for pikmin 4 first trailer: with a new pikmin type, a new map, a new boss, the nightmode, the caves, all the name of the captains and seeing all other pikmin types Second trailer: bingo battle maybe with online mode, missions, maybe a backstory to the captains, maybe a new mode and a bit story of the game.

That said, I do think we will have two trailers, but they will split all of what you have listed for trailer 1 with some of trailer 2

I really hope the outer story content is banger. Something that can naturally keep people playing for years. Like a cave/map builder to share online. Online multiplayer. Massive dlc story and map expansions. Some kind of randomness throughout. Difficulty and challenge mode options done right. A companion app for phones like a pikmin garden which can communicate and exchange things between the game and app for extra bits of bonus content. Pikmin side games to go along with the main series like the other games do, but not crap like hey or bloom. Go ham on the encyclopedic aspect so every tiny detail making up the world becomes a collectable in its own right by being documented and observed by the multiple characters. A good story is good. But good gameplay and technically infinite content made by that good gameplay is far more important. Absolutely critically integral to making a lasting impression and something to keep peeps taking about the franchise constantly

As much as I want a lot of the things you're saying, Pikmin doesn't seem to be in a place to get them. I feel like, for example, if there's going to be a companion app, it's Bloom. Challenge mode also might be a mixed bag - we don't even know if we're GETTING a mission mode or anything like it - is that what the night mode is? That said, I do think solid difficulty options and a focus on replayability for what content is already there will go a LONG way

@@VantageEmblem when I think of pikmin and infinite good content, I immediately think of the pikmin 2 colossal caverns mod by pikhacker. So many options. Completely random every time. Never know what barrage of challenges will be thrown at you to chew through around literally every corner. Chew through it like a fine steak. It's glorious. I'm extremely excited that 4 has caves again, cuz if they don't do something like colossal caverns did, modders will.

@@Subreon If the caves in 4 are randomized to begin with. Colossal caverns is built from the randomization that comes with the way Pikmin 2's base game builds its caves. If these are handcrafted, it is unlikely that something like Colossal Caverns will be built in the engine. It took Pikmin 2 hackers roughly 15 to 20 years to become experts at what they do and make these truly transformative mods, and it took Pikmin 3 hackers 10 years to get to the proficiency where they can now start to really make things.

Okay this is a crazy idea but here goes nothing. So if your at a day care, maybe everyone is like in a Toy Story type world where no one can see you move. So bulborbs wake up at night because everyone is gone. Maybe this can make a new obstacle for you. Remember just an idea not for sure

This isn't related to this video, but I want to mention it because it's a detail in the pikmin 4 trailer no one has noticed. Honestly, It may not be that big of a detail, but, We never see the whistle get used in pikmin 4 at all. And while it may not mean much, I think it may be important to notice this detail because it's a core mechanic in all the pikmin games and is essential to all the games. But Idk, what do you think?

Not sure yet! We haven’t seen the whole thing yet, but it seems particularly large. It’s much, much taller than other Pikmin maps, that’s for certain. And, on top of that, it seems like there was another map in the trailer that’s even TALLER (the playground one)

I think that ice pikmin if they are not upgrades then if the player try’s to go in water then the ice pikmin will slow down in the water and eventually freeze the water and otchi will hopefully have a system that otchi can be out every one or 2 days maybe you need the Blue shards to refresh him?

We really don’t know HOW those systems are going to work yet, but I’m so so curious what will happen. So many questions remain like “what are the blue crystals for” and “how do you get ice Pikmin back from water?”
