Exploring Pikmin 4's Mysteries (ft.

I can’t begin to describe how excited I am for pikmin 4, there are so many ideas that I have for this game that I hope to see, and the fact that for the past few years I had been thinking about some form of ice mechanic seeing it in the game in some way makes me so happy, my idea was more ice age where we had some form of ice pikmin whether they were just resistant to the cold weather or could control it the idea was ice, I absolutely just love seeing these things somewhat actually introduced

Last time you and Davo collabed, it led to one of my favorite topics of thought in the Pikmin sphere. I had made a pretty long comment on that video with my other account, and I'll do something similar here where I update my thoughts as I watch!! I think the theory of Olimar leaving Hocatate Freight to make his own company is rather compelling. I also believe it is grounded well because Hocatate Freight looked like a terrible place to work what with the president haha. I must say I agree that the stylistic changes with character designs and cuter "friendlies" is a positive - as you say it could juxtapose pretty well especially if we delve into the creepier aspects of PNF 404... which I believe is the highlight of any Pikmin game. I appreciate how the caves seem like a place where you aren't safe even more so than the Gamecube was able to convey. I would like to posit a theory that the more personal (lower to the ground) camera angle was picked almost solely because it could increase the tension of a given area tremendously as the behemoth enemies loom over you. I think there's a strong chance that every cave will have some sort of rewarding incentive, but personally I believe the incentive will be locating and saving lost shipmates. Think about it like this - its a number of something which is able to be universally tracked and maybe you need to save al of them, but in no particular order. This could be where the open world formula comes to play. Maybe you could have one playthrough that finds rock Pikmin first and is able to do a vein of caves, find another type of Pikmin, and continue exploring at your own leisure. The other theory I have is that only important caves have a shipmate, these are the required ones, and you get some sort of small upgrade after *each* cave as well as, of course, many treasures. Perhaps to find new areas, you must find enough shipmates, or all of them, *or* if they wanted to go truly less linear they could have a small required part of every overworld you must first do to unlock the next area (I.E. if you follow the signal to a particular cave you can go straight to the next world but there's still going to be a significant amount of things you missed that have varying levels of complexity to find and collect in a similar manner to fruits from 3). A note, I believe the captains are assuredly not kopai due to the fact the strawberry on the overworld is sparkling like a treasure which I don't believe they'd do if they brough back kopaits... but this could be wrong. Oh, your theory of collecting both food and treasure could be interesting but I would like to consider if that would overburden the player with specific tasks rather than how the rest of the series allows you to collect many things out of order. I did catch the dog jokes and I'll admit I was giggling like an idiot when I pieced it together at first. I think there might be more dogs - thinking about how they could be their own resource to manage. It turns them into like bigger, more impactful individual pikmin you probably need to be very smart about directing around to save as much time as possible. Sure! They CAN drag an enemy back with the strength of 10 pikmin... or they could let all your squad cross the water. But wait, they could ALSO break walls. And you can't do that unless its with you. Maybe you just get the 1 and it makes managing resources more rewarding - I'm honestly hoping for that. I believe the landing sites theory is one mentioned a couple times on the channel, and again on my other account we had a small exchange about how that might work so I won't go back over that here. I think it could be a great checkpoint and rewards system that takes the pressure off of exploring big areas and feels like a big win if you manage to find on before time runs out is my condensed thoughts. Now upgrading Pikmin could be interesting but that could also really crowd the mechanics of the game - perhaps only being able to upgrade the original 3 types?? Even then, that's 3 more hard to access types like purple and whites... which might make them too scarce and not worth using when there's already 5 easy to grow and access types. I hope either they aren't an upgrade, or that you can grow more purples/whites for this reason. The idea of a new spray could be just right for the game especially if we had the 2 from previous games return - 3 diverse tools that are hard to come by but extremely powerful (and perhaps only one buff active at a time??). It would be the perfect little twist to make the combat feel that much better without destroying what it did so well in the previous games. Thanks for giving me more food for thought, I swear you two in a video together is a recipe for brilliance and I love the extra mile you guys also go through to include potential additional designs and resources to help me understand your vision, makes it fun to speculate as if its real!

The fact that they’re called “victims” in Japan is INCREDIBLY interesting!! Could this mean Pikmin 4 might go back to the more gloomy atmosphere of 1? I kinda doubt it but man I wish The raving long legs being inside what I’m gonna assume is a shed is also really cool!! It’s really nice that they’re giving some caves more detailed backgrounds and stuff!! Also, mini theory, what if Olimar and his family are some of the castaways? I would love love love to get to actually see them in action!!

About the alliance, I think you are on to the fact that it is something much bigger than a small company because the e-shop describes the plot (or what little we have of it) as a “grand mission”. This is in line with Pikmin 3, since it likely that Koppai’s government sent them on that mission; perhaps this game’s mission is about saving the castaways. Pikmin 1 and 2’s plot, however, are not grand missions, they are just survival or economy.

I feel like the plot will be about a large group of people including Olimar, Olimar's Family, Louie and more going on vacation and SOMEONE SABATOGING IT causing them to crash land on PNF-404 with the new captains (Likely a part of the Hocotation government) being sent to rescue them, maybe the final boss is the person who sabotaged

I think that Pikmin 4 will have us explore areas that are closely tied to human civilization. In the first 3 games, we explored natural environments that have collectibles, alluding that humans have been there before but because of the how the world looks like and how there are creatures that don't seem like animals humans know of, it alluded to the players that this Earth is post-apocalyptic, yet that wouldn't make sense since the collectibles that come from humans aren't necessarily destroyed or have decayed overtime, they still look somewhat brand new. Or maybe, humans may have recently gone extinct, and everything else, even houses, still seem in good condition.

I have a theory. When we see oatchi carrying the dead bulborb we see the landing point, my theory is that we unlock the landing points when we defeat an enemy. In that landing point there was that bulborb, now you killed it so you have unlocked that landing point.

21:12 The idea of having to strategize which Pikmin to bring due to a type limit per day was an idea I had thought about a couple months ago before Ice Pikmin were dropped. I was just thinking of up to 10 possible types at play being a lot to handle, so maybe you had a limit of 5 types per day. Of course I also figured that limit would be broken for the final area and you'd have to utilize every single ability your Pikmin pack to get through it.

Now i havent finished the video yet but- considering how they are called victims and how all of them have a similar look and how the wraith only seems to care for olimar maybe now the wraith has a vengence against anything of koppaiate stature / look and we are here in an enormous airbus like spaceship to rescue these victims of the wraith and get off safely because the koppaiates ended up taking olimar away from the wraith

Lovely stuff :) I love the idea of being able to upgrade blues, yellows and reds. But I’ve stopped hoping for more types other than Ice. I want to be happy with just one new type and not set myself up for disappointment. But it would be awesome!

If they are victims, I totally believe Charlie tried to build his resort and these are the poor souls who tried to go to pnf404 for vacation... ironically similar to how Olimar was on vacation in 1 when he crashed

For the theory of bulby I think about the side story of pikmin 3 deluxe and I think that can exist a side story of Olimar, Louie and Bulby

There's a lot of potential to Pikmin 4 and things we know nothing about. I'm looking forward to whatever bosses there are as well. We better get another trailer this summer!

Ooh, I really like the Plasma Pikmin concept, it reminds me of the projectiles Plasma Kirby can shoot out. Admittedly the candle Pikmin is probably a bit too silly looking in my opinion, though the idea of a literal Fire Pikmin could be fun. I also think a Smoke Pikmin could be an interesting idea for a Red upgrade. I also think a neat passive for Plasma/Fire/Smoke Pikmin could be that they're able to pass through some obstacles, like Plasma Pikmin wouldn't have to destroy electric walls, they could just travel through them. Plasma Pikmin could also potentially travel through wires or metal pipes. Fire/Smoke can probably go through metal grates without electrifying them. All upgrades could also affect the environment in some way like how Ice Pikmin freeze water.

I’ve watched the trailer more times then I can tell you but I never payed to much attention to those red crystals snd I always thought they were petals.

Hi, great video as always, I really like discussions like this and I think the plasma pikmin could come to fruition in one way or another. Also, if the castaways (or victims) sent out an SOS signal to the team we’re playing as in his game, a cool little Easter egg would be to include the “interstellar radio” from pikmin 1 that emits a constant SOS signal, I’d love to see a callback to that. Keep up the posts and awesome work you put into them, and I hope you have time to upload even more.

I've told you about the Wraith Mother Theory before, the one with the Plasm Wraith being the still-wandering soul of a grieving mother, but have I told you about the Radiation Poisoning Theory?

I did not see that scent trail indicator in the game. That could be neat to give players a hint towards the location of the castaways especially if they're hidden inside enemies or obstacles you need to defeat/destroy such as a castaway who was buried by some means. Though I hope we don't have to escort them back while being chased by a wraith or other monster that was a hassle in three for me going in blind to those puzzles

The landing sites could be for optional areas to land to get around faster or bypass obstacles or they're the locations where you find an onion or such and then they're empty later as the onions fuse. Though if they go big on the maps there could be more than one landing area to get around the map more efficiently or it's required to be able to get things home by the end of the day

I don't mind the creatures and characters looking more cartoony. Kirby is peak cartoon in terms of looks and he's terrifying. I'm sure this game will have plenty of cute but terrifying (once you see what they do) predators in the games that will probably be based off some irl animals or science as Olimar likes to explain the biology of organisms in his notes

I actually made a video script about 3 theory's I thought of but never got around to do it, but in one of my theory's I talk about the Disco Long Legs and I think it's a pretty cool theory so I wanna say it in the comments. It's called the '''House Theory''. In the Pikmin 4 trailer, you can see a giant house which seems like a big part of this game, or maybe just a center piece for a background, but my theory is that we as the player go into the house. As you say in the video, if you brighten it up, you almost see scaffolding like a basement or something, I think this is the garage we see in the Pikmin 4 trailer, it's kind of blocked by a few tires but it looks like there's a garage, maybe in the game, you walk up to the garage like in Pikmin 3 with the Armored Mawdad with it's giant nest. You also see giant lights, and people have said it could maybe be stadium lights, but I think it's light coming from a garage window, it would explain a couple of things like the pipes on the wall, it's not a bunker but maybe water pipes for the house, like sinks, baths, etc. There are some holes in my theory like the light you see in the background going up, maybe explaining it being a cave but maybe it's a chimney or a crack in the ceiling but that'd be maybe stretching it a bit. But I think this theory i've made is all around pretty good, please give me your opinions on this. Also sorry if there are any theory's that are similar to this, I didn't look at any other information outside of just the trailer, so if there is a similar one, please do tell me!

Theory: Oatchi is part of the Grubdog or Breabug family. on one hand, Oatchi has no arms, similar proportions to a bulborb, and has spots on his back. On the other, Oatchi drags items the same way the breadbugs do, and is harmless to the pikmin. feel free to debate in the replies.

I just want to voice my opinion here, I don't like the "evolving/upgrading Pikmin" theory. It just doesn't feel like a something that would happen in a Pikmin game. I much prefer the idea that each day you choose 3 Pikmin types, as from the beginning of the franchise you only had 3 types to choose from. Although I do like the ghost Pikmin idea.
