Castaways becoming leaders sounds like it could happen and you might be able to design them yourself which is why you can't see their faces inside the helmets
@@VantageEmblem real, easily my favorite Pikmin character. EVERYTHING he interacts with gets messed up, like how in Pikmin 3 he manages to blow up that massive steel girder with nothing but himself
I saw the thumbnail for the trailer and screamed in excitement. I absolutely love the art style for the trailer cutscene thing, it’s very pleasing to look at. Making your own character is something I’ve been a little on the fence about, but actually seeing it in action makes me really wanna use it. Why is there no option for your character to be bald tho… or have a very little bit of hair? Like every character before pikmin 3, but I digress. I’m a little bummed that it looks like we won’t be playing as Olimar, but honestly I’ve expected that. Knowing that my favorite character is in the game is enough for me. -Zoe
Hahah that’s so so fair. Fire Emblem’s transition felt the same way, and now the series swings back and fourth, and the recent two games sit somewhere in the middle. I’m curious to see what this means for Pikmin 4 and the series as a whole
Ok but imagine Louie chasing around Oatchi trying to eat him for his logs, it could look like the part where Louie gets chased by a red Pikmin in Pikmin 2 but this time Oatchi’s getting chased😅
Character creation could also imply co-op in the campaign to allow players to play with friends. It might be a stretch, but I think it would be fun, I've always wanted to play the main story with friends, but co-op is usually relegated to a challenge mode separated from the story
Pikmin 3 Deluxe had a co-op campaign and it was a ton of fun! And there’s fan-made mods for Pikmin 1 and 2 to have co-op, though they are in no way officially sanctioned. I wouldn’t be shocked if 4 picked up where 3DX left off, especially given that it has comparability 1-2 players listed on its page
Waking up to new Pikmin 4 info is a great way to start the day haha. It'll be interesting to see how the story works with a created character. I wonder who will create the logs at the end of each day. Will our created character have a personality and be the one to write the logs? Are there non-created characters, like Collin and Shephard perhaps, that will write the logs? Guess we'll have to find out!
Fire Emblem handled this by having a set personality for the customizable character, though that had both good and bad aspects to it that really showed themselves depending on the overall quality of the game’s writing.
This trailer coming out was a nice a treat since my birthday is very soon. The online footage that was linked by another commenter also shows that you can have multiple captains at once, which means that multiplayer will actually be good like Pikmin 3 deluxe!
At the same time, does that footage show multiple captains in action, or just kinda vaguely around the area while the main captain does their thing? I only caught what I assumed to be the second but I will have to look more closely. Also! Happy (early?) birthday!
I also thought about the Castaways being customizable as well, as it would suddenly make sense why the one we find in the other trailer has their features so grayed out and blurred. It seems like it's trying to keep their appearance as vague as possible until we rescue them so that we can customize them afterward.
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing! While it may only be the main captain that is customizable, since that’s all we’ve seen so far, it might be possible to customize others! We have yet to see though!
This seems like a big advocate for multiplayer. Since everyone has their own unique design, it makes be believe that they incorporated this feature to give players distinct looks in a multiplayer mode.
Ahhhh!!! It's so great to finally get more Pikmin 4 news from Nintendo! Also, it is surprising to see Oatchi as a member of the Rescue Corps, but I guess that makes sense why Shepherd is the one explaining to the player what's "common for his breed" or whatever, haha. Can't wait for July 21!! Also, nice haircut!
1:48 YOOOOOOO THATS ME :) The character creator really concerns me because we won’t be able to have the typical inner monologues from them. Even the Koppaites had fun conversations and the occasional end of day log. Something that I really started appreciating the last few days was how perfectly Pikmin 1 and 2 are designed around Olimar. There isn’t a single aspect of either that don’t come back to tie into his character. In that sense, he is a *perfect* protagonist. We can’t have that now. Whatever new characters they add in Pikmin 4 will forever remain under Olimar’s shadow. I also hope the game acknowledges this is a rehash of Pikmin 3. I’d love to see a depressed Olimar who feels like he’s just completely stuck in this loop of escaping the planet and crashing again. Like no matter how close he gets, somehow he’ll wind up back on the planet so why even try to escape in the first place? I feel so bad for the guy, this has to be gut wrenching for him. I hope the story acknowledges that. I hope it has substance to it. If you rescue Olimar and he’s just like “ah! Thank you! Let’s go home!” And nothing else happens I will be pissed off beyond belief Overall, there’s so much to be excited about but also a lot that concerns me. I’m gonna try to wipe all expectations from my mind and try to appreciate it for what it is. I don’t want to dislike it at first just because I expected something different. That really killed my enjoyment of 3 and I don’t want to repeat it
I really think this story hinges upon how Olimar is handled. I want to see what this repeated crisis does to the guy. Something has to be up for it to make any amount of sense.
Hey man, glad you spoke on this! I hope you also saw the new footage they posted on the website on the Japanese version! Also, you should speak on what your idea is for the remaining pikmin types which have been absent in any trailer thus far
@@VantageEmblem Awesome! And yes, I believe that they could either be hiding those Pikmin types from us until a final trailer, or they are just in game modes. What makes it strange that we have yet to see any gameplay or footage of them is the front box art displaying them ALL
I was not expecting there to be character creation in this game. I wonder if we'll be able to customize each member of the rescue corp as we find them? We've already seen some of the crew, as well as a few of their names. But even if their names are set in stone, being able to let the player choose the appearance of each member can help make a each playthrough feel unique and personalized.
My theory is that during Pikmin 1, the interstellar radio sent an S.O.S. signal into space and the Rescue Corps. heard it and came to the rescue. But due to some time shenanigans, they arrive way later than expected. They may have arrived after the events of Pikmin 3. OR maybe Olimar just crashed once again and the Rescue Corps. are just here to rescue him. I feel like the plot is going to be at least a little more interesting than that though.
Some have apparently seen a new enemy in a screenshot that looks suspiciously related to the Creeping Chrysanthemum (it has s strawberry as a tongue, so a creature that mimics a treasure or food, perhaps?), as well as the Metites & Burrowing Snagret returning.
I thought this time would be following the ending of Pikmin 3's normal story, where at the end Alph explains Louie wasn't onboard, and post credits you see a ship come crashing down, I presumed this was Olimar returning for Louie again, and as Per usual having a really rough landing
The continuity following the side stories is very vague and I expect that won’t be addressed here hahah, but we will see. I am curious what will be done with addressing the Pikmin 3 cliffhanger, if that really was led to 3DX or not
i feel like this game will most likely take place after the events of 3 deluxe, theres a whole trope of distress signals taking "too long" to reach someone who can help, especially since they have warp drives i doubt the distress signal could get to the rescue corps quite that fast. they theoretically couldve caught distress signals from any of the previous games and they clearly took enough time to plan out the rescue mission even if it did immediately fall apart.
after watching the extra footage form the Japanese website its very clear that this is its own storyline with a NEW crash from Olimar, i guess all his distress signals from the previous games just echoed into the void, its very clear in the video that Olimar crash landed in the main park we see in the trailers.
Wait, so you can customize your own character in this game? Oh, that can be interesting. I'll look forward to that. I really want to play Pikmin 4. I played Pikmin 3 Deluxe for many many hours and had a lot of fun with it.
Yeah, apparently you can! That, alongside a lot of other things about the gameplay, was just confirmed today! I’m planning on covering the rest of it soon
I cant believe the entire game is about rescuing olimar sound familiar because it was the same with pikmin 3 i also was not expecting oatchi to be part of the rescue corps
@@VantageEmblem I wonder if the body types are gender specific? I don't think we've seen anything to say they aren't but we haven't seen much in general
If it is true that we can customize all of the castaways, I'm gonna make everyone look like Louie so when the real Louie shows up, there is just a whole horde of him
i never thought a Charakter creator would be in Pikmin. but i like it. could be very funny. Im also very hyped to see olimar and the dolphin in the game. Im just soooo hyped haha.
I’m kind of happy to see this as it’s more of a personal journey but I still enjoy games with a set character as it can have a better story and game because of it. But I trust Nintendo to do well with this game
I wasn't expecting more Pikmin 4 info today, and I certainly wasn't expecting character creation either! The leader with grey hair on the right at 2:03 from the first trailer almost looks like a doll, which did confuse me slightly, but it makes sense as to why that was now
I have come to that conclusion myself too a few hours after making this video - might be something they did knowing how well P3DX sold amongst the animal crossing player demographic and that excites me!
This game probably takes place after pikmin 3 because in pikmin 3 olimar first discovered rock pikmin so probably after unless they just don’t care about that
Very true! Though even if it’s taking place then, I wonder if it will still be the first distress call from Olimar’s first trip that they’re responding to
Loving everything with Pikmin 4, I just really hope they don't fumble the bag on the story. From what we've seen, it seems like more of a rehash of Pikmin 3 with slightly weaker visuals, which concerns me. However, I'm still looking foward to the game, it looks like so much fun!
I have my worries about the story, but if done seriously, somewhat minimally, and competently it definitely could effectively add to the experience rather than detracting
As someone who already found Pikmin 3's captains a bit... "Disney kiddie fluff" compared to Olimar's heavy and dignified characterization, I really hope they use this opportunity to lean off the dialogue a bit, and just let you take in the world and imagine your own character's personality. It'd suck if they go the "blank slate who just nods along, constantly states the obvious, and talks a lot about nothing" route.
Personal I don’t like this feature but it might just be me it kinda feels out of place because we probably won’t these custom characters in any future games unless they do a blank character that looks like the captains
i think all 4 of the captains are custom, not just one, since they are all different body types, and the types of body types in the custom creator are the same
I just want them to stop disrespeecting Olimar like this. Just once I want him to feel like in pikmin 1 when he was competent as a pilot but had bad luck. Yes I know it’s the Umibozu’s fault (except for pikmin 2’s intro, that’s when the mad disrespect sets in) but to everyone else it in universe he just seems to suck at flying. I want a game where olimar saves YOU, ya know?
It’s really cool that you can create your character. But when there is another pikmin game staring that character how will that work? Also I think it would be cool if you could switch and swap captains from the ship to play as since there are so many.
It’s such an interesting question, and I’m not sure the devs have an answer for it yet. I’m really curious how they’ll go about solving this particular problem in, say, Pikmin 5
we will yet again see the human race entrusted with creative freedom in a video game, an event that never results in people making horrifying monstrosities.
But I don't like the customization feature from a storytelling aspect, because then, in the storyline, who rescues Olimar and what do they look like. This can't be answered.
I don’t know if you’ll ever respond or see this, but I predicted this exact thing would happen (customizable characters) 3 WHOLE months ago. Pretty cool, but tell me if you’d like a link to the video. It’s kinda short and bad, but it’s quick and gets to the point.
There are going to be so many stupid character designs for the main one isn’t there. Can’t wait to see what the internet can cook up with this feature to be honest
Not gonna lie, I really dislike the idea of customizable characters in pikmin... One of the best things about the pikmin series, mainly 1 and 3, was the characterization of the characters through data files, and journal entries. You can't really characterize a customized character aside from giving them really generic/basic traits, so one of the best aspects of the series' storytelling is basically gonna be nonexistent in 4.
That’s so so fair. That said, a blank slate protagonist can still work really well provided it is paired with well fleshed out characters who can, themselves, serve story and journal functions. But in many ways I do agree with you
Not a huge fan of that feature but at least we might be able to improve their horrible designs :’) Also, this feature feels kinda weird cuz it means there won’t be any official charadesign for the protagonists
What we already have seems to be the official design - an official render for them has already been posted online! It’s much like Fire Emblem avatars having canon default designs
It depends - I know a lot of people that are really excited about it! At the same time, I know a few people are really disappointed. As for me, I’m pretty indifferent, but excited to get to try the feature out!
