Before she became an icon of Filipino music, Ms Corrales first achieved popularity in Australia. In 1958, she launched her first recording “Come closer to me” which topped the Australian music charts. Her popularity in Australia was so strong there is even a street named after her in the state of Victoria.

Hello Ovela. Before Lea Salonga and Regine Velasquez were born, there was Pilita Corrales. She is half Spanish, half Filipino. She was at her peak in the 60s and 70s. She speaks and sings in Bisaya (her mother tongue because she is from Cebu), Tagalog, Spanish, and English. She became famous in Australia in the 60s. She had performed in Las Vegas and other US cities. She continues to perform even now that she's in her early 80s. She has aged gracefully.

Even though Spanish was still in the system. It wasn’t actually used widely when communicating. This is why during the late 80s to 90s it was discontinued because Filipinos had already began regularly code switching with English. So it was officially added instead

You've seen her before as one of the judges/mentors of X-factor Phils, together with Charice, Gary V and Martin Nievera in KZ Tandingan's audition. She was the first Filipina singer to win an international singing competition in the sixties, which earned her the monicker of Asia's Queen of Songs. She was married for a long time to a Spanish guy. She was the host of the TV singing competition that Regine won in 1984, while Regine hosted the TV competition that Sarah G won in 2004.

Spanish language was used in schools until 1970's - 80's that explains why she speaks spanish fluently and many filipinos back then can understand/speak spanish. She is also a filipina with spanish ancestry.

Until in early of 90's still it was in the curriculum and it's mandatory. .but in specific course ,,like for me BSED I had my Spanish1 and Spanish2 but in 1995 or 1996 it was abolished if I'm not mistaken..

Tapos ang daming nag cocoment na pure filipino daw si pelita. Hindi ba nila napapansin ang itsura ni pelita ang tangos ng ilong at mestiza. May pure ba na filipina na ganyan itsura😂 kase ang pure filipino ay pango at kayumangi lang at pandak. Sa panahon ngayon marami ka ng makikitang matangkad matangos na ilong at mestiza y mestizo. Way back until the 70s or 80s Spanish 1 - 4 was a requirement in Philippine colleges and Universities in the 1st 2 years, a few private highschools also had Spanish in the curricula... so a lot of the older pinoys can speak and/or understand Spanish to a certain degree.

The confidence, yes! When you’ve been doing this for 40, 50 yrs plus of course. She in her 80’s. She can sing in Filipino, she has sang in Tagalog however conversationally she speaks Tagalog with thick accent, Visayan specifically Cebuano. She will be the first to tell you she speaks Cebuano better than Tagalog.

Yes, because she was born and raised in Cebu. At first she did not able to speak Tagalog when she began in Manila accepting offer for making movie or singing.

You know what if you visit Philippines there's a lot of different Filipino faces, you can find like Chinese, Korean, African, Black American, White American, Latin, Japanese everything also Hispanic we call it Mestizo-Mestiza even my grandmother she looks like Spaniard but pure Filipina

Yang manga sinasabi mo hindi nayan pure filipino o filipina. Kase ang pure filipino ay kayumangi at pango. So lahat ng sinasabi mo na mestiza y mestizo na filipino hindi nayan pure filipino. May lahi nayan. At sa panahon ngayon kaya iba iba itsura ng flipino kase halos lahat satin may manga lahi na. Kase pure filipino pango at kayumangi. Pero ngayon marami ka ng makikitang mestiza at mestizo at matangos ang ilong. Puwera lang sa manga nag retoke. Gaya sakin may lahi akong Indian at spanish pero proud filipino padin ako.

"Filipino" refers to the nationality and citizenship. If you mean the racial features, Filipinos are mostly Austronesian with a certain percentage of Han Chinese, and some mixing with Caucasian, Amerindian, Melanesian, Arabic, Indian, and Negroid African features.
