Don't give up you'll get there in the end my friend. Whatever you do don't become a truck driver!!! I was a photographer on cruise ships before being a trucker. I would go back tomorrow if I could? You're young and the perfect age to start but don't deviate from what you want to do. I would love to fly helicopters but I'm too old now. SO DON'T GIVE UP THIS IS YOUR BIG CHANCE MY FRIEND 👍

@@richardwoad6477 It's a wise advise. Ironically I want to become a pilot and I wanted to be a truck driver. I was about to do my license procedures but hopefully I've met some real truckers and now I see why you say it sucks. And also my pilot career seems to be an eternal dream because of the money issue. I wasted my better years for studying and working where I didn't belong. However aviation is in my heart since childhood. Hope this guy @gosherkerr9563 will make his dream come true without wasting his time on worthless activities.

To be unshackled from 'the daily grind' is something we all long for and almost always only reach when we retire, after many years on the grind. It's fantastic that you have found something that's very close to that while you're relatively young and in good health. Wishing you all the best.

Hi, I am semi-retired as I am (73). When I started flying in 1967, as everyone else, I started on fixed-wing. My first commercial job was a co-pilot on a single engine Otter on floats. We were flying hunters in and out of Northern Canada's bush. I hated it. That fall I got my rotary-wing endorsement flew an additional 50 hours under the training contract and had my first rotary-wing job the next Spring. Most of the helicopter companies I worked for had a company fixed-wing aircraft so when that pilot went on holiday or was ill, I flew the fixed-wing. I also got my instructor rating on fixed-wing. Near the end of my career I was flying to offshore oil rigs in Argentina. My suggestion would be to get a rotary-wing endorsement as there are more helicopter opportunities then fixed-wing. Good luck.
@MrGyngve
@MrGyngve 6 месяцев назад
"My suggestion would be to get a rotary-wing endorsement as there are more helicopter opportunities then fixed-wing. " I am a EASA CPL-H and CPL-A rated pilot. I did my CPL-A because while there are is a certain amount of rotary wing-jobs, there are no where near as many jobs in the heli-industry as it is in fixed wing. The reason for this is that helicopters are almost exclusively flown SIC (except for those under EASA-CAT ops. requirement operating offshore flights/IFR/ALLSAR regardless of seats). Not only that, but The Heli-industrial complex is disillusioned. They pay at a rate far worse than commercial fixed wing, especially in aerial work in The EU. I know the market in the USA pays better in general and have way more jobs then we do here, but even then you are looking at average salaries that are far below that of fixed wing operators on average. An SIC H125 HESLO4-rated pilot in Norway maxes out at about 62000 USD/year. Thats the ceiling! In comparison, a F/O starts out at about that rate and will only see an increase. Of course, if you land a job in The Offshore-industry, you will be compensated just as well as fixed wing pilots, but the amount of jobs in The Offshore industry are extremely few and far in between compared to fixed wing.

Hey Captain. You were one of the first people I met when I met aviation. But you know "once an aviator, always an aviator" I mean just look at how you are very attentive the aircrafts passing by while filming, you're even able to identify their model names......that's really cool. Which ever career you're going to I'm sure what you learnt in your commercial career will always help.

I feel your pain. I flew for 13 airlines, including four majors like Pan Am, United, Continental. I went through many furloughs and airline bankruptcies. I know exactly what you are talking about, including the crazy hours and fatigue. The last few years have been good for pilots in the US, but that is an anomaly and will not last. It's hard to explain to people not in the business what it is like, but trust me, I understand. I am free now only because I was forced to retire after 36 years of airline flying. I flew the Airbus A-300, DC-9, DC-8, Boeing 727, and Boeing 737. I was not as smart as you, and I never quit. I sure did pay for that - it was a grind until the end. I'm just glad I survived it. There were so many close calls, but I guess I was lucky. I am a real fan, and I watch your main channel every day. You can see me flying here: ru-vid.com/show-UC0jlEeTPzQTK1GRVwGRZkew

I was flying Caravans for a Part 135 airline in the U.S. until the pandemic put the company out of business. A shame, because it was a great place to work and the passengers were very appreciative of our efforts. I was 67 at the time, had been a captain there for six years and already thinking of retiring, so the timing was good for me because I was getting really run down and was able to get back in shape again. Good luck Denys, once a pilot always a pilot. The war won't last forever and you're still young. And yeah, non pilots see only the uniform, the cool airplane and good pay, but they don't see the stress, responsibility and the effect that has on one's mental and physical condition.

I know exactly what you’re talking about. I was working in a wearhouse and in a supermarket one year ago. I was earning good however I was always stressed, tired and become mentally exhausted. Then I saw an advert as a freelance delivery driver and I took it, the flexibility, control and freedom I have now is unmatched with anything else I have ever and probably ever will feel. I can do whatever I like whenever i want, I’m free. The taste of freedom have changed my perspective on life, more happy. I love that I also see more people doing it! We are meant to be our own bosses!

Deny's I was taught to throttle down once the turn completes on final, unless there are cross winds. At the time I was working on my private pilots license at a very windy place adjacent to the Travis airforce base in California. I often had to crab all the way down under gusty conditions. It was an exceptional lesson to have crosswinds, where in many places the calm air offers no challenge. Enjoyed your pilot log. ❤

Partly sad news, quit piloting the big birds, but I buy the arguments You told. Sad that Ukraine looks like a developing country regarding commercial aviation. Was once a private pilot. A new house to pay and an illness making air time collecting impossible, the license was dropped. Being a civil engineer, getting burned out... Jumping into bus driving... Being haunted by a terrible work load, schedules giving no time for recreation, abandoning that.... Retiring early to have time for veteran train driving released a lot of pressure. Discovering the charm of flying using drones life has an interesting content. Life brings changes for some of us.... Whish You the best Dennis! T U.

I had been flying GA for 17 years, when last year the company went tits-up. This year I have only flown sporadically, for a private operator on a very nice KingAir. But,...the further away I get from the daily grind of flying, the less I miss it. The last few years of flying, it really started to get to me, and I was cranky the last off-day before a new work period. I was fed up with being away, and fed up with hotels. I should tell you this: we had very nice trips and very good hotels and where well paid, but...there's no place like home, and to see your kids every day. Unless I can get a nice job on the Learjet again, I'm going to let it slide.... Blue skies!! All the best to you Denys!, and to all other aviators, whether student or seasoned veteran.

Good decision Denys. Glider flying is great fun, especially when trying to achieve long distance return trips eg 200km where you take photos of prearranged way points to prove that you got there. I would think the airline industry is a stressful job to stay consistent in. I was in a good career that i got burnt out in. I had 6 years to retirement and i was so burnt out i said see you later. After a year i felt refreshed and decided to give it a go back. Not only did I go back, they gave me bonus to come back, and I took on several promotional job opportunities. The mind needs to reset, however long, some people need a day or three, some need a year.

Your video hurts me a little bit Denys since it gives me the impression that you are somehow giving up. I'm 71 years old now, a former helicopter pilot and then an engineer in aircraft industry so that I understand first hand what passion for aviation is and, as I could easily be your father, I have some life experience so to speak. You are somehow in mid-water right now facing a difficult choice in an abnormal situation. I already told you: your family first but ... your mental well-being matters as well. RU-vid is a good temporary job and a source of income so keep it of course but I wouldn't bet its all on it. Think twice before resigning definitely from commercial pilot career. Your airline is more or less dead, we both know that, but I remember how much you enjoyed flying as an airline captain and you were good so think about it: don't make a definitive decision to solve a temporary problem. Please continue investigating on what might be possible for you (in aviation) that your family would understand and accept. Don't give up, you have serious advantages and nothing is lost, never. I can't tell you more for now except that my best wishes are always with you. Take care and come back to us smiling👍

From personal experience, I can say that when you stop working a certain profession, as time goes on -- especially after a few years -- it becomes harder and harder to come back to the profession. I think a lot of people appreciate your updates on the situation in Ukraine, and you're an effective ambassador for Ukraine on social media. You're doing good work. Still, I think that beyond the next year, it's very hard to say what will happen with RU-vid. For various reasons, I'd say that your future earnings through RU-vid aren't certain, whereas if you work a professional job like a commercial airline pilot, your skills are always in demand somewhere. You might be right that KLM of Lufthansa might not hire you as a pilot if you don't speak very strong Dutch or German. However, your English is very good, and if there are job openings for Air Canada or Qantas or BA or any one of the airlines in the USA (American, United, Delta, etc) then I'd say that going down that route would probably bring you more reliable future income stability than RU-vid. I say this as someone who used to work a highly paid professional job and left it to kind of do my own thing, which gives me a lot of flexibility but more variability in earnings. Best of luck in any case!

it takes courage to do what is right for your happiness and your family's happiness. Maybe your decision may turn out to be the wrong one, but unless one tries one will never know. And happiness is a very unique thing to every human being. What makes you happy may not be the same as what makes me happy. I applaud your courage.

I think you follow a path which will do You mentally good. You've got a lot of talents just make them perform to your benefit. A guy like You will always succeed. What you never experienced from what I hear, was a good employer. That will probably change in the future, and you have already learnt the englisch language so go for another to learn. Probably German? Best of luck ! The helicopter you spotted was from that little I saw a CH 53 or a Puma .......given that a F 18 Hornet was also in the sky !

It’s definitely good if you can manage not to work for anyone else! Well done for taking that leap, but also a shame because you were obviously a very good pilot. Good luck with your future and hope you can make a living with your other channel 😊

Nice talk, it's hard to put a price on the calm sane life style, airline flying is not that! The bad schedules, noisy hotel rooms (even in expensive hotels), poor diet on the road, missing family for days, constant stress of training and checking and that's not even the flying stuff! The sunrises at cruise with a cup of coffee, good crews and conversation, thrust at T/O, managing a difficult flight, setting the parking brake on the last leg, all good. I still love it after 28 yrs but am leaning towards retirement at 58, things still to do and time is ticking. If you desire to go back try the U.S. even the smaller regional jets are paying big money these days, Captains 150-220$ per hour. Good-luck

Welcome to the the self employed club Denys, once you've taken the step, made it work, then it would be difficult to work for anyone else. Just remember there is a stark difference between making money and earning money?

Denys, do what makes you happiest - that's what is best for you! Yes, we all wantthe Russians out of Ukraine as soon as possible, and it's horrible that there is a war for you to report on. But you do that as best you can to help your homeland, which is admirable, you can still support your family, and you are enjoying the freedom of being your own boss - that's wonderful, enjoy! Thank you so much for your reporting on the situation in Ukraine, and your honesty in telling us about things in Ukraine that still need to improve - I appreciate your honestly, and that of Operator Starsky, too. I very much hope that Ukraine will soon be free of the Russian invaders and that those responsible for the war are brought to justive swiftly. Slava Ukraini!
