I think it's never gonna happen. The best thing we can hope is some discount on Steam if we purchased the same table on pfx3

Fantasy Strike has crossbuy between Steam and Switch, for everything except the virtual currency (the Gems, the equivalent of the tickets). You have to spend the currency on the platform on which you bought it.

The thing I don't understand is it's barely going to be an upgrade on the switch

I’ve not played it on the switch but doesn’t fortnite equipment bought on other platforms carry over to the switch eco system?

You have to look at F2P games and MTX/DLC, not the games themselves. AFAIK there a multiple F2P games where you can transfer your MTX content between all/most platforms. From my knowledge Playstation is the hardest platform if you want some kind of a special solution - not Steam and Switch.
