Before you do the Animals album make sure you just do 10 minutes A Research into reading about what each animal represents in society it'll just put things in perspective a little better than figuring it out after you listen to it and I know I'll get ranked on but people that say you don't need to do that but I think it might help

Virtually an entire album in minor keys- the dark sadness goes on and on for a seeming eternity- then finally it resolves to the happy G major chord at the very end, and all is well. Astute fans will notice the little “See Emily Play” riff that Rick throws in at the very very end, as one last tearful goodbye to Syd. Fucking genius.

And that's in large part because Pink Floyd doesn't appear to have a stick up their asses by blocking their music from being reacted to. That, and their music transcends time and generations.

That they poured all that devotion and talent... all that inspiration and technique... crafting, thoughtfully and artistically into a suite of amazing soundscapes... for a man. Any listener surely feels the love they had for Syd. His “loss” (and the way he slid away from them) was so profound for each of them, individually and collectively. Surely, this set of pieces must have come to pass. It was just natural. That they chose to orchestrate their “goodbye” this way is STILL-to this day-such a bittersweet and sad thing to behold.

You may enjoy "Animals" more if you have a quick read of Orwell's "Animal Farm" (I say quick as it's a pretty short novel, you could read it in a couple of hours). The book is a parody of Stalinism and the failure of the Bolshevik Revolution through the eyes of animal "classes" on a farm; Waters turns this around and makes the album a critique of capitalism with dogs (businessmen), pigs (politicians), and sheep (the masses) taking on similar roles.

@anahatatutu
@anahatatutu 4 года назад
Check this out. As you know, the entire album was a tribute to Syd, who actually showed up unexpectedly after years when they were finishing with mixing this. He had changed so drastically that he was not even recognized. Wright used a bit of the Early Barrett/Floyd tune "See Emily Play" directly quoting it at the very end as an extra direct tribute to Syd. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wish_You_Were_Here_(Pink_Floyd_album)#Syd_Barrett's_visit

I’m sure many have heard the story but since we may be dealing some new Pink Floyd fans. While Pink Floyd was recording this song. Literally this specific one, a fat bald man with no eyebrows walked in. He silently wandered around their studio until they realized.... It was Syd...he came in to give them a visit, he had been living in a Home for the mentally insane after his LSD overdosed and he gained 100 pounds and shaved all of his hair off. He was simply gone. “Now there’s a look in your eyes like black holes in the skys.” The band said all 4 of them started crying in the studio. They get emotional to this day telling the story. They Gave Syd every bit of his deserved royalties, He passed away a millionaire in 2006 Shine on Mr Barret ❤️

Always such a great reaction. It would be great to see what you think of slipping back a little further in time. There's a cool version of "one of these days" from the album Meddle (which preceded DSotM) done live at Pompeii. Especially great to see Nick doing his thing 😉 Anyway hopefully here's a link:- ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Nw1643T0RD0.html ..... deeper you go, the more you find😊 Oh and BTW the line "I'm going to cut you into little pieces" was reference cutting up vocal clips of a BBC radio DJ into nonsense because he used to just "babble on" in a way they found really annoying. But then they distorted Nicks voice to make it take on a far more sinister sound.

Jay Rah, unlike many, many before you, you keep your word and deliver a great, great reaction to this masterpiece with your EARPHONES OF TRUTH. Most reactors only stick to parts 1-5, maybe because they don't take any risk and go for the popular tracks only. Although parts 1-5 with 6-9 were a single song at first (but they decided to bookend the album with it), I regard them as two very different pieces with their very own style and approach. It is strange to say which one is better than the other. That is no question to be asked when it comes to masterpieces like this. They take you on their own adventure and are doing that so well. When you listen superficially the instrumentation seems big and lush, but it isn't. Their harmonies do all the work for them. I l love that!
