Others have said it, but I'll repeat it... Hearing the entire album together for the first time is a once in a lifetime thing. It's no wonder the album was in the top 50 for something like 15 years! Take an hour, relax, and listen to the whole thing from start to finish (it's only 45 minutes long, but you'll need the extra 15 minutes to recover!) I first heard it, of all places, in a music class in school. The teacher came in and said "forget what we were going to learn today - this album has just been released and I'm convinced it's going to be one of the biggest albums ever!"... and he played it to us end to end. He wasn't wrong!

right on but after hearing the Album in its entirety for the first time which for me was in 1973 when it came out, just imagine seeing them in concert which I was lucky enough to see them April 12, 1975 at the Cow Palace in South San Francisco, They played the entire Dark Side of the Moon and all of Meddle Album, including the incredible Echoes, and also songs from their new album at the time Wish You Were Here. I still have the program comic book they gave out as we got in the arena at 4 pm which was 4 hours before they started the show. The played alone no other bands and played until Midnight. 4 hours. I then saw them again in Oakland at the Arena in 1977 when the critics say they were at their best that tour. Incredible is all I can say.

"Dark Side of the Moon" was the first LP I ever bought when I was around 14 or 15 years old. Saw them live at Milwaukee County Stadium in 1977 when I was 17 years old for the "Animals" tour. I remember a giant floating Pig balloon by the stage blow up with so much force that we could feel the heat and concussion from the blast it must've had several sticks of TNT in it...and we were back on 3rd base!

I'm from the central east coast of Florida where Ian exited as a tropicsl storm and we were spared. Just wind and a lot of rain. The south west coast was devastated. Very sad. My sorrows and thoughts go out to all those that suffered. Wilburn get with Dee and at night in a dark room with wine or whatever get comfortable and listen to the entire Darkside album start to finish. You will not be disappointed. It is a spiritual experience.

I’ve been listening to rock/metal since I was 8; that was 1974. I listen to all kinds of music rock blues jazz soul funk you name it I listen to it. Ive been a metalhead since 1974 Black Sabbath was the first band I fell in love with. I first heard Pink Floyd about a year after that and have been listening to them since. In 1980 when I was lucky enough to see The Wall tour in Los Angeles Pink Floyd has become my all-time favorite band. I don’t think there’s another band that I can put on any album and go from start to finish and have them take me to another place. time and dimension. Pink Floyd is the greatest mind trip band. No drugs required but occasionally makes it a little bit more fun. Good reaction I really enjoyed it

If I remember right, this song originated from a piece written by the late, great, Richard Wright under the working title ‘The Violent Sequence’ for the soundtrack of the 1970 film Zabriskie Point that Floyd contributed to although it wasn’t used as the director Michelangelo Antonioni really wanted Floyd’s ‘Careful With That Axe, Eugene’ which, reworked, was used under the title ‘Come In No.51, Your Time Is Up’ I believe they referred to it then as the ‘quiet and loud song’. It’s actually the longest song on Dark Side Of The Moon.

This is an album that truly needs to be listened to from beginning to end. Back in 1972 you had to flip it over, once 8-tracks came out it ran through but had annoying clicks when it changed tracks. Cassettes were pretty good if you had one with auto reverse, if not you had to turn it yourself. CDs made it great to listen through, I know personally as I've owned this album on all 4.

Yes, I had DSotM on 1/4” Stereo Reel to Reel as well. My favorite way to listen remains headphones playing the vinyl on a both-sides-play turntable. The analog sound I loved from day 1, was lost on the CD, even though the mileage of others may vary. Regardless of the media, a masterpiece.

Long time Floyd fan here, and I'd like to dissent slightly from two of the most prevalent views expressed here. Firstly, while it's true that the album works brilliantly listened to as a whole, this song in particular works fine on its own. In particular, these lines capture the futility and waste of war with superb concision: "Forward!" he cried from the rear And the front rank died Generals sat and the lines on the map Moved from side to side. Secondly, you absolutely do NOT need to be high to love Floyd's music. The music *is* the trip!

And if you do take any drugs, let me know which ones, I'll buy them right now. It doesn't matter - Pink Floyd albums must always be heard in their entirety. Summer’s night moonlit dark room that looked out onto the ocean in a tiny old modest beachfront bach but with reasonably high end audio, comfortable chair and a cold alcoholic beverage is how I got introduced to Pink Floyd when I was fresh out of my teens but this song in particular is what really pulled me in with the echoed voice and sublime sax and piano, that was good times..

The album was engineered by Alan Parsons (later, of the Alan Parsons Project), who did all the mix down, and much of the credit goes to him. He's worth researching if you aren't familiar. If you get the chance, watch the documentary on how they did all these echoes, before echo machines existed (hint: many tape recorders lined up in a room)

You really need to listen to The Dark Side of the Moon album in its entirety. Pink Floyd is an album band, and a concept album band at that. Each track adds meaning and context to the next. In fact, the only real break in the music on The Dark Side of the Moon is between The Great Gig in the Sky and Money, which is between side 1 and side 2 of the vinyl version.

Richard Wright the keyboardist R.I.P. is the one who wrote the music for this and he was heavily influenced by Miles Davis! So if you do get a jazzy feel that's a very good reason why! Rick Wright is the glue that holds almost all of Pink Floyd music together because he paints an atmosphere around the song and then you have David Gilmour adding beautiful guitar work, Nick Mason drumming perfectly and of course there are probably none better than Rodger Waters when it comes to writing lyrics!! As many people are saying about your reactions just for yourself if not on your channel you should listen to the whole album from start to finish! It's like a incredible novel with a great ending!

Listen to The Great Gig in the Sky and I'll bet you'll definitely will download that one also! Give it a listen. Clair Torry is the only vocal on that song and she " add libbed it".

No way 99% of Americans can understand the lyrics from the faster parts of this track without subtitles.

There’s literally no other band that did what the Pink Floyd did between DSOTM, Wish You Were Here, Animals, and The Wall.

Yes!!! ❤ Dark Side of the Moon is my favorite Pink Floyd album. Now, y'all need to react to "Money" from it! You truly do need to listen to the album it in it's entirety, from beginning to end, in one session! It's truly amazing!

I love how the band goes through a long list of opposites an rolls them all into one thing in the end. Nice tie-dye Delia...not sure how to spell your name.
