Just consider this album “Dark Side of the Moon” spent over 18 years in the Billboard charts. Name me another band who can claim that?

The line “with without, and who denies it’s what the fightings all about?” Such a strong line that really says it all. Every war, ever waged, all comes down to fighting to take what one side wants or feels is theirs , and by result, takes it from another.

You're right Richard Wright is the backbone. A little fact in the bass player who replaced Roger Waters is Guy Pratt, who is married to Richards daughter.

There are 3 groups that are way out in front, in a league of their own - The Beatles, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd! They're the 3 biggest groups in music history, for good reason. :)

Just got chills listening to this. I've been listening to this album since 1973. Still gets me everytime.

When this was recorded, Rick Wright played the song's jazz-influenced grand piano to what he thought was the rest of the band playing in the next studio. In fact they weren't present and it was a recording made earlier. What started as a prank became, according to Alan Parsons in magazine, "one of the best things Rick ever did."

I almost envy you discovering the mastery of Pink Floyd.

Waters expounding on the lyrics in an interview: "The first verse is about going to war, how in the front line we don’t get much chance to communicate with each another, because someone else has decided that we shouldn’t. I was always taken with those stories of "the First Christmas" in 1914, when [the soldiers] all wandered out into no-man’s land, had a cigarette, shook hands and then carried on the next day ... The second verse is about civil liberties, racism and colour prejudice. The last verse is about passing a tramp in the street and not helping."

I agree. It's hard for me to narrow down the best musician in Floyd because they all possess equal ability to make great each in their own way; I will say that Nick Mason is one of my favorite drummers. He has a unique style that I really love. They are all my favorite everything: Rick Wright my favorite keyboardist, after Ray Mansarek, David Gilmore my favorite guitarist.

One of the most beautiful chill out songs ever written along with whiter Shade of Pale by Procal Harum and Nights in White Satin by The Moody Blues, Dave Gilmour's voice is just sublime, I agree Rick Wright on Keyboard and Nick Mason on drums are the powerhouse of Pink Floyd, Rick add atmosphere and texture and Nick adds the timing, rhythm some surprisingly complex kicks and fills when you listen carefully and thanks for showcasing this amazing song. What I love about Pink Floyd, no matter how many times you listen to a son you still hear new things, it's incredible.

Ummagumma, Atom Heart Mother, Meddle. The trio that got me started as a teenager when they were released. Then came Dark Side of the Moon and everything shifted. 14 continuous years on Billboard Chart. RIP Richard Wright.

Not only are you guys both so excited to hear 'my music' - especially when you're both listening to it for the first time - but your English (especially your vocabulary) is fantastic! Some of the words you use to describe are not only perfect descriptors but to be able to voice your interpretations so clearly in what I assume is not your native tongue, is impressive! I'm a fan. My love for Waters and Gilmour stayed. Thanks to you, I returned to this magical world again. This is one of the biggest and best bands that ever existed.!

I was looking for this reaction last night. I'm glad you got to this song.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!! When you pause during a song, PLEASE run it back 5-10 seconds so you don’t ruin the whole flow of the song. Too many times you pause at very critical transitions or something and I’m afraid you’ll miss something important! (It’s very ease to go back, all you have to do is hit the back arrow key, 5 seconds for each time you hit it).

This is the most complete album ever made. Roger Waters would go around London and record people talking as you hear on this track.

Pink Floyd what can I say. There's something in their music. The way they take you on a journey. The way they change the key, the tempo, like in money, comfortably numb, shine on you crazy diamond, wish you were here, Hey you, Us and them. They always switch it up to a place you don't expect. Like taking you down an ordinary corridor in a building and they quickly push you through a door and you're in paradise, a memory or sad place and you don't know how you got there but you're there. Hence the reaction at 7:51. It's the same thing with all their songs. While you're there they talk to you and make sense of that place. Then they bring you safely back home. And you wake up like you just had a dream but was it a dream or was it real? Either way it was a journey and it has changed you. Pink Floyd are a word we cannot describe in our language, they are that good. The more you listen to them, the better and better and better and better they get. We should be humbled and thankful we have the privilege to listen to them. Rock on Pink Floyd. Love the channel guys 👏🏼, keep it up and peace ✌️ to you both. 💪🏻

I bought Dark Side of The Moon as. 14 year old in 73 and it has been a constant companion to me thesladt 47 years.

I agree about Rich Wright . For me he is a musical genius and the texture of this band. You must try reacting to the last performance he gave with Echoes Live in Gdansk before Cancer robbed us from him. He is epic on that. Pink Floyd always have been peace minded and empathetic and their lyrics prove it. Cheers guys!

You are well and truly down the Pink Floyd rabbit hole now. Nothing else will ever be the same now. Pink Floyd's music touches part of your soul no other band has done or probably ever will do again.

If you haven't already, you need to check out some of the songs rom Meddle. Namely, 'One of These Days', 'Fearless' and especially 'Echoes'. You won't be disappointed. It was the album where they really came into their own as songwriters - well, after David Gilmour took Sid Barrett's place. They were more of a 'jam band' before Meddle.

Try listening to Echoes with video from 2001 a space odyssey, I think you will enjoy... great reaction videos, I'm a big Pink Floyd fan for over 40 years!! started at the age of 10, best regards from Belfast Ireland

You made a great point about Richard Wright being an integral part of Pink Floyd and he supplied the musicality not only in his jazz like chords but his harmonies which at times are eerie but thought-provoking. David and Nick knew very well his vital contribution hence they produced the last Floyd album, 'Endless River', which has some fine keyboard work going back to 1968.

I heard this album for the first time way back in 1973. I listened to it straight thru, w/o interruption, with headphones. It changed music forever for me, and it's still my favorite album!

Dark side of the Moon still sells close to 8,000 to 9,000 albums a week nearly 50 years after it was released, in 2002 it was in the top 200 albums of that year almost 30 years after it was released, it hit the top 50 in 1983 when it was re-released on CD. It is preserved in the Library of Congress as an album of historical significance. It's estimated about 1 in 14 people in the United States own a copy. I own 3 copies, the original album, the CD, and the remastered CD version that came with the Shine On box set

Us and Them... “black and blue... and who knows which is which, and who is who?” I think it’s maybe not so simple as good vs. evil. I see this song as the musical expression of the visual art on the album cover. The white light going into the prism. That was our original state as god’s creation. All One. No opposites. Pure Love. Then we dreamed of being separate from god. We went through the prism, in as One, out as the many. My personal interpretation, of course but that is what true art does. It invites the viewer to participate in the meaning. That’s why I love Pink Floyd and this song man.
