I've only had studio 20.6 for a few weeks. Today I thought to take a look at their tutorials. Oh my G, Made me appreciate you even more. At least you know how to teach. Thanks for your efforts!
This has really been enhanced since version 17. In 17 the pan and zoom is only available for still images. I've been hoping they would make it available for video clips too. The Camera>Pan & Zoom works for videos but the results aren't as good. This plus the enhanced PIP are worth the upgrade price alone. You've made my day my friend! Thanks!
No problem my friend. PIP, Pan and Zoom, and Track transparency are some of the biggest reasons to upgrade. Don't forget to use the link in my What's New video when you upgrade. :-)
Maliek, you are a life saver and your p20 pan and zoom tutorial convinced me to get p20. Love your personality and sense of humour. Like Larry Bristol, I too use photos big time and have waited for a controllable variable zoom speed. Thanks from New Zealand.
I'm loving you're videos. I couldn't get my head around pinnacle studio 21 but after watching these videos I'm now starting to get the hang of it. Many thanks Calvin
You do a very nice job with all of your tutorials, Maliek, and thank you for that. I use Pan & Zoom almost exclusively on still photos to give them some motion. How much motion, how much speed, how often motion is used when there are several stills in a row are all important elements to telling a story. I try to use photos with a high enough resolution to avoid pixelation/blurriness particularly when making HD videos. One of the problems with using P&Z on video clips is that the clips become pixelated/blurry very quickly if zooming in much from the original video size. Maybe that has been improved some in S20, but it still may be at the mercy of physics. One workaround I have heard of to help avoid this problem (or at least to minimize it) is that videographers will use a 4k camera to shoot the video (and get more pixels), but then edit it in HD and use P&Z to zoom in. Since there is more original video information the pixelation is reduced greatly. One other thing about the S20 Pan & Zoom is that if keyframes are used they cannot be "clicked and dragged" to another point in the clip once they are set. They vanish! At least knowing this at the outset is good... just a little inconvenient. I would guess that this problem will be corrected in future versions. These are just some of my observations of using this feature over the years. Others may not use it as I do and so some of this may not apply. Anyway, thank you for all of your hard work on these tutorials!!!
WOW! So much great info here that I know a lot of my viewers will find useful. Thanks for sharing your experience and opinions with us. :-) Yes 4K is definitely the way to get around pixelation when zooming. I would like to get my filthy little paws on a 4K device but I have yet to find one that meets my standards and my budget. Once that perfect mixture of features and price is available I will jump on it. :-)
I hear you on that! Between my standards and my budget the budget always wins. I'm not sure this will work, or even if it's appropriate to post here (you can delete this comment it if you want), but sometimes it's easiest to see an example. This is a short family video I put together based on only ONE picture that exists of my great-great uncle. P&Z was really handy to help tell the story. You will see one photo that is very pixelated, but that's okay. The other pictures are brought to life using P&Z maybe because we can see the soldier's faces. Anyway, it is an example that shows the power of using P&Z to tell a story. vimeo.com/180388821
Malik, have been a Sub for a while and gave you a Thumbs Up as I always do - your videos are very instructional and I greatly appreciate that. Every one I watch, I'm always thinking of ways I can incorporate a feature into my published videos without distracting from the content. I publish fishing videos and have used the P&Z in 19U on occasion. Video is shot with a GoPro 3+Black, 1080-30. I cannot zoom much before pixelating, and in 19 the P&Z feature is still cumbersome. It looks like another upgrade may be in order, once they get it back within budget. One last question - the red arrow/marker you use. Is that drawn in PS for each usage or was it created outside and simply imported for use? I sometimes need to direct viewers to a particular location in a screen of water and while a WingDings character can fullfill the purpose, your casual drawing is much classier. A little hint would be appreciated.
I have Pinnacle 20 and I love these videos because I find them very helpful! I have a request. Would you be willing to make a video that will teach us how to brighten only a certain section of the video (At 1:54 for example where the preview window is lit up but the rest of the screen is darkened). Also, will you teach us how to make transparent colored boxes (like at 2:38 for example)?
Thank you Benjamin. The effect at 1:54 is done using my screen capture software Camtasia. It can probably be done in Pinnacle using a picture. If you want to make a tutorial request for it please watch my Pinnacle Studio Tutorial requests video and fill out the request form. The colored box at 2:38 is part of Pinnacle Studio.
Do a video on how to do the video collage. Like you have one video. Then you have like 2 more videos in the 1 video. Like how at the end there is bunch of of videos and links at the end.
When I try to do animated I cannot move anything, it stays locked into place. I used the nodes and the attribute bars to try to adjust but still no luck, any suggestions? I'm running Pinnacle 20 Ultimate
Awesome vid but i need help quick. Im in pinnacle and whenever i try to do a pan and zoom my zoom is stuck on automatic. I cant change the zoom at all. If i do it immediately goes back to the automatic zoom
Hey Malik... what the best video editing software where running out of resourses wont be an issue? I'm using Pinnacle 19 and after a while (10 minutes) it becomes slow then unstable and then locks up... as if it Pinnacle has a memory leak. I'm using a new HP with Quad core I7 16GB of Ram, 2GB video card desktop so not sure is a hardware issue. Never had a problem with Pinnacle 11 on older equipment. Only conclusion I have is since Pinnacle is not what is was since its been sold. You thoughts?
How can I extend the duration of the end of the animated zoom? In the clip, start zooming in, then hold that zoomed in for a few seconds. The animated zoom is set across the entire clip time.
Maliek, your tutorials are very informative. I felt lost when I loaded Pinnacle Studio 20 Ultimate as it has been a long time since I did editing with a Pinnacle product. You saved me a great deal of time with the help of your videos. Thank you! On the box it says that one can import from AVCHD and other file based camcorders. I was able to load from my GoPro without issue, but when I imported from my camcorder, I can only hear the audio, but not see the video. I read online where a lot of editing programs have issues with .mts files. I used a software program called Any Video Converter to convert to .mp4, which is the file extension from my GoPro imports; however, I still can't see the video. I see where someone asked this question several months back, but there isn't a response. Any insight or advice would be appreciated. Can Pinnacle Studio 20 Ultimate read .mts files or do they have to be converted to another format?
Yes it can read .mts files. I use them all the time. Check your preview settings, make sure your video driver is up to date, and make sure you have the latest version of direct x on your system. If you still can't view the files reach out to Pinnacle support.
If you are doing the exact same motion use 2D Editor Advanced instead of Pan and Zoom. Then you can copy and paste the effect from one clip to all the rest of them.
How do I apply the same static zoom to multiple clips, I've already tried to select all the clips, and then set a static zoom, but that has not worked, I hope I dont have to set a zoom for each and every clip
Hey man, I know this video is for pinnacle studio 20 but I have a question about 19. Recently, my computer crashed, and pinnacle was wiped from my PC. So we fixed the computer, and redownloaded pinnacle. I know have my editing software back, but all of the default effects, transitions, and the "text insert" effect are all gone. When I downloaded pinnacle for the first time ever, i remember these coming with the program, but now I guess they didn't? Please help
Thany you for the tutorial ! I begin to anderstand that Pinnacle Studio is realy a good logiciel. I used Magix but is possible to bay Pinnacle Studio soon. Bruno
I've been waiting ☺ any chance I can select a group of still images, and add the same zoom feature to all as a group, instead of having to do EACH one individually? 🤔
You can if you use 2D Editor advanced. Just create the zoom effect using 2D Editor advanced on one clip, then copy it from the one clip to all the others. You can see it done in my copy and paste tutorial. If you are using corrections you have to do it one clip at a time.
I checked this out and remember this from the other video, I have still images, I don't see a pan and zoom under the 2D editor advanced, so are you saying I have to "create" a preset to add to my images, again these are still images not video, I like a slow zoom in or out to mimic movement, I see that only under the pan and zoom tab, and it does only one at a time. I'm missing something here? thx
hello again, i'm trying out zoom and pan and want to add zoom only to part of a video and don't know how to add keyframes for beginning of zoom and end of zoom. help would be amazing. thanks.
Hi Malik. Been using PS17 Ult. for quite some time and all ok. Recently made a movie of my travels. No problems, and burnt to disc. Then had to burn a second disc for a friend and found that despite saving as a 'Project' the music still has to be imported from the external drive and, more importantly, the video/pics timeline does not play. When playback is stopped it does show the correct picture frame though. This, all after a recent Windows 10 update, which I suspect has caused the problem. I have heard of other people having glitches after the latest update. Any suggestions would be very welcome. Thanks.
Sorry George I do not have any suggestions. Check the Pinnacle Studio forum forums.pinnaclesys.com/forums/242/ShowForum.aspx or the Pinnacle Studio Users group plus.google.com/communities/103736620166447167176 to see if anyone else has any suggestions.
Question Buddy. When I make any adjustments with my movie the Render starts and it takes several mins to complete. Then if i need to make a small tweak takes a long time again. The file I'm using is a HD anything i can do to speed that up. Thanks
I am panning and zooming photos. Now, in previous versions of Pinnacle Studio I was able to set de next clip as the pan&zoom settings of the previous clip. In version 20 I need to manually enter the zoom and pan parameters in the right side of the screen. This is very annoying and time consuming. Is there an option to just klick on something to tell Pinnacle to take over the parameters of the previous frame (the previous clip) ??
I figured it out myself. haha. If I copy the clip, then copy the last keyframe and paste it to the first, I have the exact same position of the previous clip. Only difference is, that it's not a static picture, but an animation clip with same positions from beginning to end.
I'm looking to make smooth slow motion but I can't is there any way to make some portion of my video clip really smooth slow motion on pinnacle studio 20 ultimate I can do with my iPhone but on pinnacle I can't get really smooth slow motion!! Any help thanks
Smooth slow motion is created by shooting at a high frame rate and then slowing it down in your video editor. Shoot at 60p and then use speed to slow down the video by 40%. That is the smoothest you can probably get with Pinnacle Studio because it does not export frame rates higher than 60p.
Hey Gina. :-) No, this program isn't compatible with a Mac. If you get a MacBook Air that fits the system requirements for Final Cut Pro X that is what I would get. I have it on my MacBook Pro. It is a great program and there are lots of tutorials for it online.
let me ask you this, how do you zoom in on one part of the image, then pan in on another part? That is what I am trying to do. I am trying to go in, and then down.
I've tried doing this using custom keyframes, but the program seems to have a mind of its own and doesn't go where it should. Must be why he left out the more complicated stuff - it must not work. Or at least that is what I've concluded so far. I watched hoping to learn more, but it is just the very basics.
I use several. Camtasia to record the screen and add arrows/circles Adobe Audition for audio Adobe After Effects for lower thirds and intro I bring all of my clips (lower third, intro, screen capture, audio, etc.) into Pinnacle Studio for editing, exporting, etc.
In Pinnacle version 10, pan n zoom effects can be copied and pasted into many other clips at once, in pinnacle 20, can I paste the pan n zoom effect on many other clips at once?
Depends on the tool you use. You can copy and paste effects (pink line at the top of the clip) but you can't copy and paste corrections (green line at the top of the clip). If you use 2D Editor advanced to pan and zoom instead of using the method in this video you will be able to copy and paste it.
Hey Malik, I just got this editor, and I am interested in this editor becaause I have got this for the iOS, And I have been doing fine. I got the Pinnacle Ultimate 20, and I cannot change the speed of the video I have, How do i change the speed?
Hi Malik ! Do you happen to know if it is possible to apply pan and zoom effect on multiple clips (photos) , or I have to set pan & zoom effect manually on every clip. I must create a slideshow of 206 photos, so I guess you know how time consuming it would be .... :( Greetings from Poland Bartosz
If you use 2D Editor Advanced to pan and zoom you can copy the effect from one clip and paste it to multiple clips at once. If you use the Pan and Zoom correction you can only apply it to one clip at a time.
Perhaps you could help me. I just moved from Pinnacle 12 to 20 and thought I knew more than I actually do. I did go to the 2D editor but I could not figure out what to do next to set a Pan & Zoom that I could copy to other pictures on my timeline.
After you create the pan and zoom using 2D Editor advanced right click on the pink line at the top of the clip, select copy, then select all the rest of the pictures in the timeline, click on one of them and select paste. You can watch my copy and paste video for an example.
Thank you Malik but please instruct me on what to do after I click the 2D editor. I can't determine what I need to do to create the P&Z. Sorry for needing the basics.
Can anyone point me to a video or tutorial that covers how to use Pinnacle Studio 20 (Ultimate) to zoom into an image and as you zoom in, another image is revealed? An example would be zooming into an image of an eye that when you get to the pupil a landscape begins to be revealed and thenb ultimately fills the sceen. Thx in advance.
Hi Maliek, It seems PS20 has a bug in zoom functionality. Sometimes it works fine, but sometimes it stuck. I mean if I want to change parameters of start and end keyframes, I'm not able to do that. It seems that is locked. I cannot find any way, how to activate red or green border. White border is activated and there is no way to take control over green or red one. Do you know, if there is any solution for this bug? Thanks
No, I'm not aware of any solution there. You can start a thread on the forum and ask to see if any other users have experienced this. forums.pinnaclesys.com/forums/thread/736473.aspx
Hi, can I ask you something? I use this SW since a long time and I know it quite well.. but they are few days that when I try to use PAN AND ZOOM when I open my clip from the timeline to set the PAN&ZOOM I cannot do it.. only automaticly.. I cannot set as I prefer.. what's hapenend? Can you know it? Thanks a lot
@@VittorioCeraTrainer if its a program error send an email to corel tech support from their website, they have answered some issues l have had with the different versions of pinnacle they sell.
+PinnacleStudioPro I've been having a problem recently where whenever I pull up pan and zoom there's a white-lined box overlayed above either the green/red box, which I'm trying to use. The white box can't be moved or resized, and when I try to resize the green/red box, the white box snaps it right back into place. Even when I try resizing the boxes from the side bar, it snaps right back into place. It's annoying as fuck, not to mention I'm trying to produce the next episode of my series and it's been delayed two weeks already cause I can't use a software I paid $120 dollars for that's screwing me over all of a sudden. Any help or suggestions? I've looked all over the internet but no one else seems to have this issue. Please respond soon.
I have not had this issue or heard of it either so I do not have any solutions for you. This was the only issue I could find on the forum. forums.pinnaclesys.com/forums/thread/736473.aspx You should post the issue you found on this thread along with your steps so they can see if they can recreate the error. If they can recreate it they will report it to Corel.
Thanks Maliek.. I opened it up this morning and it was fine, but then when I closed and opened it again about an hour later, back to the same issue. Ima just reload if it keeps doing this, but if the issue doesn't just fix itself in about a week I'll make my way to the forum. Thanks man! :3
I'm facing same issue. And cannot find any solution. The only way it worked for me, was just to remove that video part (which I want to apply zoom effect) from timeline and try to add it again. But yes, it's very annoying and time consuming,
Use the Pinnacle screen capture software to record the steps you are taking. Ask for help there and post the video to my Facebook users group. facebook.com/groups/1011713315625712
