in late 70´s the decks had more quality than more modern decks not so high in the reference till the 90´s, i have several that the recording sound amazing the ct-200 from pioneer in 79 was a good cassette deck
it´s quality in recording cassettes was above it´s playing cassettes quality ,i only discover this recentelly when opening the box of a new CT-720 from a X series because the amplifier was a slim version of the 79 series called by users blue series a sa-710(not sure, but says non switching amplifier in the front) .After changing the belts it worked perfect and when trying to record all was perfect ,when playing the cassette , a sa-x from tdk the sound was without any defect but not that good sounding ,after i played the cassette on a CT-959 ,it sounded incredible good for my surprise, even with the same azimuth not all cassettes sound perfect but this one i had to admit it sounded perfect ,after i did the same to my first son´s cassette deck ,the ct-520 but with looking chromed rec level knob in Plastic , was exactelly the same, and it looked like it had been in a war but for my surprise it was as good as the CT-720 not so good playing but much better when played in a better deck with the same azimuth, the keys system proved to never fail, i bought it because a friend bought a system but from 79 and the ct-200 had a quality that i never thought it would be that good, i had the CT-F1250
they sound the same but done more cheap as parts quality ,the thing that i have to say is that they record better than they sound, i put to play a recorded cassette in a ct-520 in a CT-959 from 1990 and the sound of the cassette was already a very high quality but played in the CT-520 sounded less good but ok
