The REV7 is the one I want to buy. I love the layout and it's not as cramped and the LCD's are better for you to see your samples.

Rane one has a sampler volume, it is shift and beat knob on the mixer for the FX, I think they added later through driver update. I discovered that too from their socials.

Hello Phil! Great tutorial as always. Heard that because of the lcd screens they would have to go bigger on the Rev7 to avoid over heating issues. Is it possible to cut a real butter rug for example and use it instead of the slipdiscs on Rev7? And is there any backpack that fit this unit? Best regards, KiDOBy

Awesome as always. Pioneer has and always will have better effects. Not sure the deck layout of the pioneer is better and more forward thinking. Mixer section of pioneer is better.

Another item I haven't seen is a review comparison of the contour controls. Several reviewers said on the Rane, the knob tends to move over time. Is the same true on the REV7?

Fantastic video, as always... Apologies if I missed this, but when you start a track on either of these controllers, does it take a second for the motor to bring the platter up to speed like a traditional turntable, or can you start a track in a more clean digital way (like a CDJ or DDJ1000) where it instantly starts playing? I imagine this is possible when turning the motor off on the Rane 1, but what about when platter motors are on? Thanks!

I like them both. Things for me are on board FX... But the rane in the UK is about 40% cheaper. Suppose you have to decide is it worth it? I'm sticking with my prime 4 but looking forward to future updates of these two.

Hey Phil! Who gave you the Roland SP 404-MK2 that is sitting in the shelf in the background 😎?! Concerning the built quality of the two controllers. I bet that the paint will come of pretty quick on the Pioneer in the CF area like it was on the S9 mixer. Built in FX, the full size mixer and the battle layout of the pitch fader seem to be a plus for the Pioneer, though. The stiff line faders on the Rane can be annoying for Scratch DJs. I like the vinyl platters on the Rane One more, cause they got more space to place your hands on the vinyl surface.

Big topic when Rane One was reviewed was everyone talking about how easy/difficult it is/will be to clean, lube, or replace faders on the Rane One. Not one review mentions this on the DDJ-REV7. I don't see any quick access panels for replacement. Looks like the entire top needs to be removed. Which is easier to service?

Great video. I currently have a DDJ SB3 and would love a controller with motorized platters. I personally prefer the look and layout of the Rane One.

I was a scratch DJ and was in battle mode 100% of the time so I could decrease the chances of sending the tonearm swinging all over the record... with that said I don't know why you would want to reach over the platter to adjust the tempo other than to give yourself a backache and nostalgia

I'm an old-school DJ that used to play out all over. I was thinking of upgrading my mixer to the Rane Seventy-Two MKII until I found out about this. I'm thinking of going all digital because most music is now digital. Do you think the Rev-7 would be more fun than the Seventy Two with my SL1200s? Can you play external devices through it?

Rev7 seems bad ass. But I have the Rane One and it’s great! The Rane works with almost every platform seamlessly. iPhone, iPad,Mac , pc, virtual DJ, Serato, algorithm DJ.

I really liked my ns7ii a lot. I was really attached to the tank like quality, awesome features and stuff. The trouble came way later getting really into beat juggling. You have to have full sized stuff in my opinion. They're just far too small for that, even now I can barely juggle the 10 inch records effectively. Honestly the ultimate issue with the ns7ii and all these high dollar controllers is actually serato itself. You'll buy it, and then when the next competing similar product comes out, they'll deactivate it in the software and you'll be migrating your high dollar item over to virtual DJ or whatever. Yeah they do that. The day the rev7 came out, my controller was no longer supported and you're stuck with an old version just like using an SL1 box. Except that the SL1 actually has technical reasons to be put in the past and no longer supported, unlike a controller that directly competes with the rev7. I felt totally insulted as a customer and never used serato again, and thank God because virtual dj and Traktor 3 are both far far better feel and resolution for scratching. You can stream from multiple sources and they actually run on windows machines!! Plus with the numark scratch mixer now mapped natively for djay pro, it's actually quite effective using only my cell phone for awesome dvs.

Unlike the CDJ 3000 vs sc6000 there actually seems to be a valid reason for being more expensive this time, which I wasn’t expecting! I don’t think I’m the the type of DJ to want a dedicated motorised controller (especially since I have turntables already which I hardly use!) but if I was my money would actually be going to pioneer this time

Will the pioneer rev seven be able to be mapped to other software? I’ve used the rain one with DAY and it works great. The only reason to buy the pioneer over the rane is the FX …which is huge rane should’ve come out with their own internal effects on the rane one

i know i said it before but this is where im stuck do i unbox my djms11 ive had for over a year now ( yes im an idiot) and just find a case that i can put my turntables along with that or do i get one of these lol .. for some reason when i take my turntables with me each time ive gotta spend time calibrating them when i get back or to the place somtimes which is annoying but then again phase dvs would fix that .. ahhhh lord to be stuck and patient

Big question...is the crossfaded curve control on the REV done by serato software? On the Rane One it is software controlled and it is not very good. It makes the fader sound not nearly as good as hardware controlled faders.

Great and informative comparison video Phil,, I find it bizarre that being a Pioneer product, the REV-7 can’t be used with Rekordbox.. The Rane One can be used with Serato, Virtual Dj and Algoriddim DJ Pro Ai.. I personally have the Rane One and use the Algoriddim software via an iPad and it is a very compact setup.. The Neural Mix feature makes it worth it on its own.. Unfortunately the Rev-7 to date is strictly Serato. There are a couple of features that I like about the REV-7 like the effects, Talkover and the LCD display on each platter but I don’t intend on replacing my Rane One for the Rev-7 anytime soon..

Is the denon mcx8000 a good controller?

Both controllers are quite competitive. I literally bought the Rane One two days before the rumours of the Rev series and kinda felt a bit of buyers regret. After your extensive video, I actually think maybe it wasn't too terrible. I am more of a simpler dj and stick with the basics. The Rev 7 is definitely more attractive but, a very good chunk of the new features over the Rane One I actually do not use (presently) so, I guess for now, the Rane isn't too bad. Perhaps when my skills grow and I need the few extras, I will upgrade to the Pioneer.

I think rane one is for the ppl we like turntables but we can’t take it everywhere and rane one is perfect for that

if rane would have made the platter portion of the rane one look like the rane twelves layout with a rane 70 in the middle we would not even be having this conversation. To me Rane is built well but did not do enough in the layout and features and I own the rane one... I felt this way from the first day I got it ... I thought it was a rushed product.

@digitalDJTips, please get back to me. I've been trying to get an answer to this for weeks now. Nobody gets back to us (yes, me and some buddies have the same question).. I am a club DJ (I also make and stream livesets from my home studio). I also play on small gigs and private (rich people) parties. I am in the Techno (40%)/ Tech House (40%) genre, but sometimes I perform in both Deep House (15%) and PsyTrance (5%). Would this controller do for a Techno DJ for club stuff ? I own several Serato related hardware (in my home studio I have a DDJ-SB2 in combination with a Reloop Neon, for gigs I have an old Denon DJ setup, which is due for an upgrade after 10 years).

Now, Denon is not that into battle mixers and such, but they do have spinning platters on their 5000m and 6000m. Would be really interesting if Denon would counter this with a standalone Denon Prime 2M, i.e. a Denon Prime 2 with spinning platters. That would be an insta-buy for me. They would probably need to increase the size of the jog wheels though to compete with these two under review here, but I think there's room to increase the width of the Prime 2 to cater for that.

i think all controllers should have built in scratch sounds. but particularly controllers with moving platters, because they are built for scratching. im surprised i hadn't thought of this before. this is the biggest thing about the rev7 that I like.

I'm not in the market for either of them, but the pitch fader position on the REV7 would make it an absolute no-go for me personally - I really don't like the "battle position". Sure, as someone who doesn't like that, I'm probably not part of the target demographic anyway. Still, it is a bit of a shame, because apart from that, money no object, I'd prefer the REV7 just for the waveform displays in the platter. The REV1 would be closer to what I would buy for me at this point in time - but again: pitch faders on top is something I really, really dislike. Now that the REV1 is out, I might buy something used from an upgrader though ;-)

Is Pioneer’s next step to go with a Standalone controller. Or does Pioneer have a contract with Serato that won’t let Pioneer do that?

I own both controllers a I prefer the Rane One . The Rev 7 is too advance for me I felt like a lost sheep I’m putting my Rev 7 up for sale.I test it for an hr and I didn’t enjoy playing repackaged it and put it away in storage. I must add it a beautiful controller I absolutely love the layout.

They both great unit. But it seems like the rane one it's better built than the rev 7. I'm holding off on buying either one. I'm hearing a rumor that there's a rane two on its way.

I like these but I think that if I was going to transition to being a full on scratch battle DJ (I am a club DJ that dabbles a little in scratching, juggling and trickery), I would go with vinyl. The size of the records allows you to make different scratch sounds and use different techniques that wouldn't work near as well on these little guys. Plus, vinyl scratch dj'ing is visual. I think the visuals on turntables look better than scratching on these little wheels. Just my opinion. The real gold here is the built in scratch mixer. Plus, I am surprised it doesn't do Rekordbox. Not the biggest Serato fan, find it clunky.

Rane one has adapters for hooking up needles to play 45’s. That will be my choice

Rev 7 was horrible I tried my friends rane one and compared both like U and I loved the rane one That said I flipped my rev7 for 2500 And bought the rane under 1000 win win Rev7 face plate comes loose can’t replace the fader, the pitch bend buttons were all over the place I think I made the right decision on the rane one

Main thing I like with the pioneer they removed the strip search. I don't know anyone that uses it, it's a pretty useless feature that every controller just has to have. Personally I still love my Rane One. I just use an external FX unit. To make up for the lack of inbuilt FX

Another focus when the Rane One was reviewed was the loop function. Most reviewers saying they preferred it over the pioneer DDJ-1000 style loop function. How does the loop functions compare and differ?

RANE ONE Doesn't have a strobe light. The platters do have the timing dots. At least my Rane One doesn't have a timing strobe.

I prefer the rane one..could deal with where the pitch is on the ns7...we need a 10" version of the pioneer that would be awesome 👌

REV7 Doesn't have needle search

I love the pioneer Rev7 but the position of the pitch control being side ways was the dumbest move. These are not stand alone turntables with tone arms. Why would anyone want the pitch control sideways purposely?

nothing is perfect, the pitch is on top, a lot of club djs expected from the controlling pioneer as engines, but this one came for battle dj, I really liked the ddj-rev7, but the pitch location didn't captivate me.

Rev 7 seems to have some great features but I can't get past the control layout I think it's god awful. Rane one all the way!
