Great review! I just purchased the 4660 and I love it! It's an upgrade from the 4200 . It's paired with Focal ES 165 KX2 in the front ,and JL Audio ZR650-CSi in the back. with JL W6. JL HD 4 channel and JL HD for the sub.
Hey Jason, how are you liking your 4660? I had the 4200 and loved it. Unfortunately I just had it stolen (yes, I didn’t detach the face) and I’m shopping around for a new stereo. Looks like detachable faceplates aren’t that popular and the 4200 has been discontinued. So I’m looking for something comparable but wouldn’t mind a bit of an upgrade like the wireless Apple Car Play. I would definitely appreciate your opinion!
@@jman2781 The 4660 has thus far been a great headunit . I love the wireless Android Auto/ Apple Carplay. However, I do miss the cd/DVD a little. But the upside, I can play my movies via thumb drive. The sound quality is better than the 4200 and updating the head unit is easy. Hopefully, you can get one at a decent price.
@@true2life73 Thanks for your input, Jason! I appreciate it! I feel you on the CD/DVD player. Always nice to have just in case you need it. And loved that it also came with an as slot as well. I will miss it. But I’m excited about the wireless CarPlay for sure. Like you said, I hope I find it at a decent price. It’s running about $750 everywhere I look. About $1,000 fully installed when I think I paid about $600 for my 4200 fully installed. Damn you chip shortage!
10:13 and it sucks because you HAVE to use that USB-C cable that comes with it. I have the W4660NEX, and I tried to use multiple third-party USB-A to USB-C cables because I didn’t need the extra length of the included cable, and I didn’t want to use a C to A adapter if I didn’t need to, and those cables would not charge my phone, but the included Pioneer cable would. Just a heads up for potential buyers.
I had this exact radio since Jan 21 and apple carplay worked fine with my iPhone 11 Pro on iOS 15. Then I got my 13 pro and CarPlay crashes when I launch any music app. Bt works fine but can’t listen to music and run Waze or google maps. Called pioneer and told me I have to wait for them to drop another update other than the latest 1.31 sucks this radio was amazing. If they don’t release anything before holidays I’m selling it and going with something else.
@@BreakersStereo well quick update with the new iOS update 15.0.2 is now allowing iPhone 13 work on the CarPlay. Good to go guys hope this helps someone out
2017 Ford Fusion SE. Thinking of upgrading the basic Sync. Small screen with Satellite Radio. Is there a plug and play. With mounting hardware and dash bezel. This video got me thinking.
I need some help, I have a 2006 malibu and I wanted to swap the OEM radio out but it has some car features like temp, gas range, what double din can I use and still keep these features
Which one would you recommend for a sound system, also stupid question but would you have to pay monthly for wifi or does it get it from the phone. I have a 2004 Silverado. I’m also looking at the Alpine 970HD and I’m not sure which one is best.
Hello I an having trouble getting sound from my DMH-2600. I am using just the Audio jacks into each FL, FR, RR & RL is this a problem? Or do I need to hook up the wires too? HELP! Thanks!!
Do you guys review Android Head units that provide Android Auto and Apple CarPlay wirelessly like the Teyes CC3 or the Joying? I find these two are the best Chinese brands that actually also produce dash kits for specific cars, have a great history of customer service and have more flexibility than Pioneer, Alpine, Kenwood, and JVC. But I want to know your thoughts.
I bought the Stinger Heigh10 and I am not happy, it won't connect to Android auto. I've tried 3 different brand new wires. It doesn't have half the features that a radio half the price has. It's a shame you guys couldn't do a review on that
Was looking back at a video you posted about 7 months ago on Audison Amps and I have a question that I would greatly appreciate your opinion on. A local audio shop sells the Audison SR 1.500 and tells me they are very skeptical that it does rated power at 1ohm. Can you please tell me what your thoughts are. I am also considering the JL RD 1000/1. Looking for good sq and will be powering 2 - 450 watt rms subs
Ok I agree with that shop. We’ve sold tons of those audison amps but never as a true 1000 watt amp. 500-750 is where we put it. It doesn’t even have a 4 awg input it’s 8 awg. It’s a great amp thou. In your application with 2 450 watt subs it would work ok. But I’d take the RD 1000/1 over it. Ok hope that helps.
...agh, I need help here. I'm looking for a double din that can support external displays, has good resolution (at least 1080), built in sound amp, and has many features What would you recommend as the premium double din on the market?
Great video, thanks! At 13:14 you show off the HDMi feature and are able to mirror your iPhone. What cable are you using to connect to the micro-HDMI input? I could not find any micro-HMDI to lightning cables. The only solution I found involved a lot of adaptors: micro-HDMI to HDMI cable HDMI to USB-C cable USB-C to Lightning cable That seems like a lot of adaptors! Is that how you connected?
You have to use an Apple HDMI adapter for your iPhone and you'll need a micro USB to HDMI (Male plug) to plug into the Apple HDMI adapter and that adapter has a lightning cable that goes to your iPhone and will allow you to mirror to your head unit. I bought both the micro HDMI wire and Apple HDMI adapter at BestBuy I spent about $80 for both.
Thanks for the videos. I'm looking for a head unit that will mirror cast wirelessly as well as run Android auto wirelessly. HDMI input would be nice, especially if I can't mirror cast wirelessly. I'd like Alexa as well. 9" would be nice. I ordered the NEX 3800 I believe but haven't opened it because I didn't realize that I couldn't mirror cast. Any and all help is appreciated. I have an S21 Galaxy phone Under $1000 would be nice
Great video. I am debating between the 4660 and this one. Does one need to install the GPS sensor with CarPlay wirelessly available? Basically, what's the need for the GPS antenna? Thanks.
I believe you do need the GPS antenna hooked up for the wireless CarPlay I know that’s true for Kenwood at least not 100% sure with Pioneer but if you use the antenna the navigation apps will be more accurate. Hope that helps
@@BreakersStereo That's correct, now that I have installed the unit - I ended up going with the 4660 primarily due to wireless CarPlay and screen menu configuration.
I was thinking of putting the DMH-4660NEX in my 2007 Mercedes SL550. The question I have for you has to do with the screen quality in direct sunlight. Is it washed out or can you still see the screen with the roof down?
The screen is nice and bright but doesn’t have a anti glare feature like Kenwood’s optical bonding display. But if you run into issues you can purchase anti glare lay overs that will help.
@@BreakersStereo I replaced the cable and apple HDMI adapter and as soon as i connected my phone it greyed everything out as if I turned the source off but then I held down the Mic button on the head unit to wake it up and the HDMI source was on!! But now I'm having issues with netflix not playing on my head unit it freezes when the movie starts playing on my phone and can only hear the sound coming out of my truck speakers. Any ideas of what's causing that?
I am not sure what is going on here, but either people are getting paid for positive reviews or something has drastically changed between when videos like this were made and now. As a result, I feel the need to let people know a real (and current) review of current Pioneer NEX radios. About a month ago (Jan. 2023) I purchased and installed a Pioneer DMH-W4660NEX stereo for my truck. Before installing I bench tested the unit. While Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and WIRED AppleCar Play worked right out the gate, WIRELESS CarPlay was giving me one hell of a time. The thing just didn’t want to connect wirelessly no matter how many times and ways I tried. I finally got it to connect by deleting all the Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and CarPlay connections from both the phone and head unit then connect the phone via USB. Once I did that it asked if I wanted to connect wirelessly to CarPlay. After saying yes, it worked MOST of the time. I would still need to reset tethering each time I wanted to connect to the unit, but I could force it to connect that way MOST of the time. I then decided to install the stereo in my truck, well since then it has NEVER connected to CarPlay wirelessly. Again, wired is fine, but wireless was not. I wish I could say that is where the problem ends, but the unit actually gets worse the more you use it. I also need to add that I have the lates iOS installed as of 1 Feb 2023 (16.3) and the lates firmware on the stereo (version 3). I should also add that I have two other people that work with me that recently installed NEX radios as well and they ALL have the exact same problems as well. We have tested on both iPhone (12 and 13 Pro), Android, and on two different stereos (DMH-WC5700NEX and DMH-4660NEX), so you cannot say it is an Apple or Android problem alone. Below are the current problems with NEX stereos: 1.) Will not connect to wireless CarPlay and Android Auto 2.) Unit pops up a message saying connection problem, yet unit shows a Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connection to phone. 3.) When clicking on the phone icon on the stereo it is not showing a connection to phone. If you look at your phone it will say connected, but if you tap the already connected Bluetooth connection on your phone it will now display on the head unit. 4.) If you shut off your car you will need to turn off tethering and back on before it will connect. Sometimes more than once. 5.) The Pioneer “CarAVAssist” program launches itself every time you are in the car with the stereo on. The freaky part is no matter how many times you close it the program will keep launching itself as long as the stereo is on. The only way to stop it is to delete the app. 6.) Stereo keeps dropping and reconnecting the Wi-Fi connection when driving. 7.) Stereo sometimes starts up to a black screen that won’t go away and no sound. Only way to fix it is to turn the vehicle back off and on. As stated at the start, not all these problems you will see at once, but within a couple of weeks you will see them, and these problems don’t seem to go away. The problem exists with both Android and Apple devices and across multiple NEX units. I have already contracted Pioneer, but they will not respond. Best advice I can give is to buy any other stereo that doesn’t say Pioneer. I am sure Pioneer know of the problems plaguing NEX units and needs to release a firmware update to fix all these issues now or I will be installing a new unit that says “Kenwood” on it and never turn back.
Whew people complain about low end android head units/phones. This looks even slower than my 500ex, and roughly same as my 3800bhs. Wouldn't be so bad, except this is 600$. Rediculous
@@BreakersStereo look at 11:10. When you hit the graphic eq button, it's a good second to get to it. When everything you're hitting takes a second, we're talking minutes adding up Whereas say foobar2000 on a low end android, it's just instantaneous. If you're driving and wanting to change a preset, that delay hurts. I just expect more from 600$ and 14w rms.
Anyone else notice WIRELESS Apple CarPlay is complete garbage on this unit? Did every “fix” I can find on the internet and nothing works. 99% of the time it just won’t connect wirelessly. Wired is fine, but I did pay extra money for wireless for this damn function not to work. Other people I talk to that have this same unit have the same problem, so why is no one not talking about this garbage head unit?
