You know it's a reach back into time when these receivers were produced. Many, I mean many couldn't at the time couldn't afford the price because your either in school or have a job paying a minimum wage of $2/hr. So here we are today, a volume of people seeing these pieces unaffordable then, but within reach today. Factor in the reliability, they last, they're repairable, they look good and mostly because for some it's nostalgia but to others it could be quality, braggging rights, position,... aahhh who knows. IT is and always will be an American thing

@@EpicOne-fn5ic They are hitting $700's pretty regularly now. The price the last year has really jumped. If the unit has been professionally restored then its not so bad to pay more upfront, but to pay full pop and then have to pay for a large repair a year down the road would be criminal. If its not too far of a drive, hit up Getchel Amplifier Co. In Brownsburg, IN. He is a pro and meticulous at his craft. He will certainly be able to take care of you. Even if its a $600-$700 purchase you can feel confident its done right and will run for another 40 years.

I totally realize the rise in cost these past couple of years. Agreed for restored at sale. Was explained that this unit had all the capacitors and bulbs, knobs replaced. It was a nice restoration, but I guess I didn't realize that 999$ was a fair price. Having spoken with you, I realize that it probably is considering it has already been restored.
I got one just like it...mintcosmetically....quit workingg...I took it to a repair shop....they charged me $100....I took it home and it still did not work......I took it back and they refused to make good....said something like...."Too many capacitors"
Man that thing is gorgeous. Wish I could find one that didn't cost a fortune. How do you compare it to the sound of Marantz from the same period or Sansui G series? Any difference, like bass or anything?
Thank you, good deals are definitely getting harder to find but still out there! Pioneer SX receivers are definitely the mildest of the group if you are looking for a lot of bass. Marantz is the warmest sounding of the 3 with very good bass, Sansui G-Series a little less warm like Pioneer but better bass response. Dont overlook the Kenwood KR units or the Onkyo (Onkyo TX-8500 110wpc & the TX-8500 MKii 160wpc) the Kenwood KR-9050 200wpc or KR-9060 160wpc. A real gem is the Kenwood G series like KR-9000G 80wpc. If you like bass the Kenwood and definitely the Onkyo will be your ticket at great sound and best chance to find for great price. Prices are still high but people are not chasing afterc them as much as Marantz, Sansui, Pioneer but the quality, looks, and performance is all there. And for a real bang for your buck.. They look way different than the others from their genre but the look will grow on you as you fall in love but the JVC JR-S501 120wpc, JR-S600 110wpc, and JR-S600 mkii 120wpc can still be found very affordable (some over priced but patience will prevail) and for $500 +/- $200 you will have a receiver that will run with the very good receivers of its day. I compare the sound very similar the the Sansui 9090. One of my favorite receivers along with the JVC 4VR-5456X Quad that's 120wpc in 2ch mode. All are A+. The 4VR being the best sounding receiver I've heard but unless you have a good tech they need a lot of transistors replaced to restore their magic but the JVC JR receivers I mentioned are pretty safe as they use different transistors than the 2SC458 that is all over the 4VR, used in a lot of other brands too, but jist a ton in the 4VR and all are leaky and noisy (snap, crackle, and pop)
