Have you ever dreamed of operating a steam locomotive? Then make your dream come true at the Pioneer Tunnel Coal Mine and Steam Train in Ashland, Pennsylvania!
On Saturday, November 2nd, and Sunday, November 3rd, 2024, the Pioneer Tunnel Coal Mine and Steam Train of Ashland, PA will be hosting their third Hand on the Throttle Experience! This event will allow participants to operate their 1927 Vulcan-built, narrow gauge steam locomotive, Lehigh Valley Coal Co. #123, during a 30-minute timeslot.
Guided by an experienced engineer, you’ll take the locomotive upgrade as you traverse the side of Mahanoy Mountain. Once you have reached the end of the line, you will reverse direction for your return trip. This covers the entirety of the Pioneer Tunnel's trackage for the steam locomotive!
Important information for this event is as follows:
When : November 2nd & 3rd
Where : Ashland, Pennsylvania
What Time : 8am- 4:30PM
One full trip each person, half hour trips
16 slots a day
Age: 18 years or older
Cost : $65 per person
Additionally, all funds gained from this event will go towards restoring the Pioneer Tunnel's other steam locomotive, Lehigh Valley Coal Co. #119!
