Kenny has always been the real deal. I enjoyed hanging around with his band where he played in the Denver area in 1975 and 1976. Great memories for me.
Kenny was a friend of mine in the early 80's in Denver, At the WOrld Famous CRICKET ON THE HILL" he won't remember me because I Was the Bouncer/Doorman, but I sure remember him.Crazy fun times, glad we both survived them !!! Keep rockin Kenny.
hey is he yer cous wow I just want to share the moment I first learned/ appreciated Kenny it was the Lucinda Car Wheel period, as you know 1997 and while I knew I loved those solos it took me almost twenty years to follow through , so now I can say I am aware of the ( love the name)"superlatives"
on every level this band is the example of what a performer/entertainer should be - I mean this place they are playing is small, but they are still giving it their all and having fun themselves.
i'm a huge fan of surf music and stumbled upon this . it has opened up a whole other world of music to me. i'm lovin' marty stuart's more rocking tunes and kenny vaughan's great playing.
Don't know about the pickup he used, but the majority of the reason it sounded so good is it is a Martin guitar! The reason it was played so well is all Kenny...
Wow ! I love checking out Pipeline covers....kind of the acid test on their chops. Super simple...its locked in our memory ...with those variables removed an excellent comparsion can be made. Cuz'n Kenny blows this out of the water (pun ! ) He really digs in and drives it forward....just like the insane monster breaking waves Dick Dale was describing musically.
Dick Dale was a dear friend for many years. When I saw Marty and the Band live a few year ago and talked with them after the show, we talked about surf music. Kenny Vaughn told me that Dick Dale was one of his big influences. Kenny’s and Marty’s playing compliment each other. This band is loose and tight at the same time Awesome!
@@calsurflance5598 What a rare and wonderful priveledge to count Dick Dale among your good friends ! The man taught the world to play LOUD. I'm up here in Canada and surf still has a small loyal following. Nothing like in the USA however ! Before I pass on I really want to Kenny and hpoefully Marty. Also hit some of the big surf festivals. The Surfajettes an all girl Canadian surf band are just an hour away in Toronto but covid has shut down any live music here since day one. I really appreciate your reply !
@@davidburman451 I love the Surfajettes!! I would to see them live! I had the privilege of meeting and becoming friends with Dick years ago after he bought a Cessna T-41 Skyhawk, from where I worked at the Fresno Airport. He invited my wife and I down to his home in 29 Palms. We swapped Stratocasters and sat on his living room sofa , and played Pipeline among others. He teased me about the lite gauge strings on my guitar. I got to play both his original 61 , and a Fender custom Strat . He was a real character, and we miss him. Be safe and stay well. Lance.🎸🎼
@@calsurflance5598 Cool story Cal....saw Dick Dale in Tucson in the early '80's. Surprised you knew a T-41 from a standard Skyhawk. Flew those for about 14 hrs in AF pilot training before going to jets.
@@jcheck6 His still had the markings from the AF Academy. He schooled me on the difference between a 172 and a T-41. I had worked on many Skyhawks, as an A@P. I retired from the Air Force on B-52s, and C-5s. Then he bought his dream, a 337 Skymaster. The last time I talked to him , he had lost his medical. He battled cancer for years.
@@jackfids4082 I agree that The Ventures' version is pretty damn weak. What kills me is so many people think this was their tune, and they've no idea who The Chantays were. However, there are a few really great versions by other bands. The Astronauts and Agent Orange being two examples. The former done in the traditional surf style, while the latter is an aggressive 'punked up' rendition. Both must be played very loud.
