@@DanielGreeneReviewsI've been wanting to do some kinda of fan animation for Piranesi for like a year now & the whole time I haven't been able to get the idea of a 2d photograph collage animation out of my head (maybe only collage for the backgrounds & normal watercolour-esque style for the characters). I'm looking forward to seeing where the stop motion style goes though - it'll be interesting to see what direction they take. Tbh I never expected Piranesi to get a film adaptation, it always felt like a story that wouldn't work half as well in any other format than written to me, so it'll be interesting to see how well this gets pulled off in general.

small correction, the Kane Chronicles were originally in the works at netflix, not disney plus. The films were stuck in the script writing phase for about two years or so before it's cancelation was announced earlier this year

Piranesi as a stopmotion makes sense for me. Especially when it's Laika that make it. They have a history with these sorts of strange and absurd stories and making amazing movies out of them. Can't wait!

Let me explain the Kane Chronicles connection. It’s a series about Egyptian mythology that takes place in the same universe as Percy Jackson. For the most part the Egyptian and Greek worlds don’t interact, but the crossover is about hunting down a rogue magic user who tries some things. It’s more just a special episode of a tv series type story than an Avengers epic crossover grand battle.

Susanna Clarke deserves more recognition. Honestly? Fantasy is unfriendly ghetto that wonders why it doesn't get more respect. Clarke's first book has an opening paragraph that I still remember. That's saying something on an eight hundred page book. Her books are more popular outside fantasy, which view of the current state of modern fantasy.

I don't get how you guys don't see that you're part of the problem he's complaining about. He basically said he's not interested in the discourse, and you immediately out of nowhere bring up JK Rowling. I've been watching Daniel's vids for several years at this point, and I can pretty safely say he's probably more annoyed at you guys who go around and yell at everyone who doesn't want to interact with HP about how someone who is openly transphobic is actually fine and we should support them. He has said in previous videos that the HP franchise is being super greedy, and is oversaturated. He's also talked about disliking JK Rowling on multiple occasions, and to top it off, he's also said that the HP movies are already amazing adaptions, so his initial reaction could be as simple as annoyance at money being wasted when so many other deserving books haven't yet had the chance at their first adaptation.

hearing that Piranesi will be stop motion really saves the idea of it being adapted into a movie for me. Initially, seeing the title, I was dreading it. I love the book but didn't see it as something that needed or would benefit from an adaptation. Stop Motion though? I feel like that might be able to capture some of it in a way I don't think live action could. And I've always liked LAIKA's movies. So basically I went from hating the idea to being actually kind of excited? Still wary, but they have me interested.

Elric is pretty enjoyable. Reading and seeing how much it inspired is almost as fun as the stories themselve. Warhammer Fantisy probably took the most from it, but GOT and Witch are noticable as well. I'm finishing the second volume of the stories, but they are in cronilogical order instead of publication. I wish I did publication order, but the volumes are free for audible plus. I recommend skipping Niel Gainmens "One Life, Furnished in Early Moorcock" that the volume one has as a forward. Shouldn't be hard to find a trigger list. Its obviously well written, but gross. Plus It has spoilers. Elric is 60+ years old, but spoilers in your forward is odd. Look into The Book of the New Sun. It's probably been on FN, cause it has an awasome folio society edition. Seems like it inspired Sun Eater a bit or Christopher Ruocchio is a fan. Easiest example is both series end each book the same way. Worded almost the same with Hadrians being abit more dramatic. Moslty I've just seen people talk about it with darksouls.

I am honestly surprised that Piranesi will be a movie at all. Part of why the story works so well (imho) is that you have so little information initially and that this gradual expansion of what you know is maybe difficult to do in a movie. But I'm interested to see it! I really liked the book

10:00 i bought piranesi 4 times, two of them were gifts one of them was read by me and lent the same day and currently both copies i bought for myself are with other people i lent the book to. i think i can safely say that i have 2 top one book of all time and one of them is piranesi. i was hoping for a videogame adaptation instead of a movie because how awesome would it be to explore the House with gameplay similar to Gris?????? am so hype that it is not a live action!

I’m actually really excited about a Laika stop motion piranesi. I was skeptical about the idea of an adaptation for it at all, but I think stop motion is actually a great medium for such a weird, mysterious-and-sort-of-magical story. Laika is a fantastic studio and I bet they’ll do a great job with it

Slight correction, until the decision to move the Harry Potter reboot to HBO was made it wasn't an HBO show it was a Max show with the relationship between Max and HBO being basically the same as Disney+ and ABC. One's a streaming service and the other is a tv channel owned by the same corporate overlord with the added detail that in Max and HBO's case their corporate overlord (Warner Media at the time of HBOMax's creation) decided HBO had more brand awareness then them and so slapped the HBO name on their streaming service.

Piranesi is one of my top favorite books of all time, and if I'm honest, I'd rather it not be adapted at all. That being said, if it's going to be adapted, I'm glad it's Laika. I really love and respect the artwork they out out, so I feel confident that Piranesi will be treated with the artistic respect it deserves.

13:57 I mean I get why Kane Chronicles - Riordans series do have a chronological Order - Im just kinda suprised they didnt do Heroes of Olympus first. Kane is fairly self contained and imo the weakest series (though its been a while since I read them) as well as probably the least well known. If they want to adapt ALL the series (PJO, Kane, HoO, ToA and MC) Kane would be the first I would just silently drop tbh. Heroes of Olympus is Percy jackson 2 in some ways, with Percy being a central character in addition to the new main cast. Though maybe thats the reason, if they dont go through PJ too slowly they might be able to have the same actor play older Percy.

Because they're starting it now, if they do HoO it has to be done after PJO is finished, which won't be for many years. Kane is a completely separate story.

I think Kane Chronicles makes the most sense to do simultaneously with PJ out of any of Riordan's other series, particularly if they're going for a connected world type thing. They can't break continuity (because of spoilers and marketing reasons), so that rules out HoO and ToA immediately. Magnus Chase, while it isn't super obvious, is also actually occurring at the same time as ToA in-universe, while KC happens a bit before that and over multiple years iirc. I assume its also because KC is probably easier to translate to video than some parts of MC, and having the actors around the same age as the PJ ones will help with the inevitable crossovers.
