I had a clogged auger on my Pitt Boss and was getting ready to pitch it. I watch half of your video and it all made sense. I cleared the clog after watching your video. Thanks for posting.
I had the same problem, I believe it was from dumping bags of pellets in the hopper and the fine saw dust clogged it, I now scoop the pellets with a slotted scoop to reduce the saw dust, cheers
Your video saved the day.my Austin xl quit after 2 cooks.we called pit boss a dozen times with no results.i cleaned out the auger everything works now.👍
Great advice, except for the bud light. 😂. I cleared my jam and was smoking in no time at all. One side note; I have had my PB for 5+ years and never had a jam until I tried using a big box off-brand pellet. It may be a coincidence, but I went back to using PB pellets. Running like new. 👍
Dust wasn't the problem with mine. I put a cup of cherry wood chips (not pellets) and one of them wedged itself really tight between the auger and the shaft wall. I learned my lesson.....ONLY pellets!
I had same problem. Cleared mine by watching this video. Auger was packed solid with dust and broken pellets . Took me an hour to remove auger . It was really frozen in place .
Take apart and use a vise grip and work it back and forth, you will have to remove motor and lock collar on the end. The auger will have to be completely removed just in case there is nothing else in there besides pellets.
@@HighOctane101 OMG you don't need to take the BBQ apart to clean a auger jam. It's super simple to clear an auger jam and it doesn't require the use of power tools, screwdrivers, hammers, crowbars and vice grips. Simply toss a chiming load of lit charcoal into the bottom of the BBQ and close the lid. within 15-20 minutes, which is less time than it takes to disassemble the smoker the charcoal will have reduced the jammed pellets into teaspoon of ash. In more sever cases you might want to remove the fire pot and toss a couple of briquet's under the auger tube . No need to waste time buggering up the end of your auger shaft
I think mine locked up from not shutting it down properly. Also I think the auger motor being mounted loosely is engineered that way my pellet stove is the same way. I think it helps from shearing the pin on start up
There is also a bracket you can get that will stabilize the gear motor, it called Cabela’s Rework Motor Bracket CB24ESC1 , or CB36ETC1, it works but I had to add a couple of washers to align the bracket to the motor. Pit boss said that the motor flopping around is normal, I disagree.
It is really important to use a cover and to not leave pellets in the unit. I had this model and finally gave up on it after 7 years of one thing or another. I got the Pit Boss Pro and now when done with a smoke, I empty the hopper and then start the unit and let what ever is in the augur burn off. Then I vacuum it all and put the cover on. A little more effort, but beats having to pull it apart when those pellets become like cement.
i wish i had your patience, i'd be calling pit boss they say they have a 5 year warranty and all parts. They have been pretty good about backing that up
Ran into a similar issue on my pit boss. Motor would plug up and the auger shaft screw holes got warped. Contacted pit boss and they replaced the auger motor and all auger plus parts free of charged. I was pleasantly surprised!
Congratulations on actually making contact and getting though!!!! I"ve filed a claim, emailed them, contacted them on facebook, and now i've been on hold for 92 minutes....unreal.
I removed my "Safety" hopper grate as well, and noticed one day when it rained those screw holes were allowing water in the sides so i put metal tape on the inside to block those off. maybe you got some moisture or maybe its the pellets. I use Lumberjack char hickory, no dust at all, And Ive never had a jam. Pit boss 820xl.
It was like $15 I think, I’m sure gears could have been a defect but making sure the grill cools down with fan is a plus never unplug it at high fire that can cause auger to stick the next time you use it
I sift my pellets through a spaghetti strainer and shake them before storing them in a 5 gal bucket. Then when i add them from the bucket to the hopper I use a flour sifter cup and shake them again and dump them in. I find that by reducing the amount of dust in the pellets, I haven't had this problem..... yet. Additionally I drain the hopper in to another bucket after each use and store inside the house. My thinking on this is that the outdoor humidity won't swell the pellets. Maybe i'm just getting lucky so far but it seems to be working.
I just purchased an 1150 pro recently and this by FAR is the biggest piece of shit grill. Never again. First the while PID controller didn't had no Bluetooth. They replaced that for me. Then internal temp is over 100 off so I have took cook at 400 to get to 225. Then I purchased the heat defused to not blast the probe with heat, get it on there only to find auger no longer working.
Mine did the same thing...got some new larger elongated pellets much like the ones you’re using. My best guess is that this auger is only designed for the Pitt Boss pellets which are smaller. I’m about to go out & hopefully fix this issue...fingers crossed I don’t have any stripped gears! Thanks for the video man! Would not have any clue what to do without your video!
Yeah I gotta fix mine. I'm using the treager because my pit boss is jammed up. Had the ribs on for an hour and went to check and it was cold lol. Looks like we will eat at 9pm lol😂😂
I bought one a couple of days before for a big family cook out used it twice perfect. Turned it on got meat ready 30 minutes nothing unplugged restarted 20 minutes nothing took apart turned auger little tight for 1/2 turn I thought .put back together still nothing took back apart back a auger fine at this point a couple people left to go buy another grill so I hand feed it for a while put it back together 30 minutes later pit cooled down looked from underneath I left the bottom off seen motor up against the side of box used tie wrap to tie back to finish cook today I made a bracket to support the motor in place. yeah you talk about frustrating hungry people dinner 5 hours late.
Lol why pay for it when they are warranties for 5 years if you register it when you get it. I own three different grills from them and if I ever need parts they just send it
@@HighOctane101 it’s factory warranty as long as you registered it with pit boss when you got it. If you didn’t register and then you can still use your receipt if you have it
those motors arnt strong enough to strip a tooth on the gears, the only way that can happen is when people use crowbars pliers and screwdrivers trying to clear a pellet jam
