Pixel 6a display can RUN at 90Hz?! 

honestly, 75hz would've been a happy middle ground between 60 and 90. I've owned 75hz displays before, and it's a nice little jump

I'm talking from experience, this phone does not need 90hz. It's been super fast for me with 0 lag or choppiness. It feels almost twice as fast as my Nord which had 90hz. Anyone that actually has this phone knows it doesn't need tampering with.

6a's display may support 90hz on "overclock" mode, but GTG or Gray to gray time may be increased causing frame skipping

If Google would push out a update that would give us the option I would try it. Otherwise I don't want to void my warranty or damage my device.

What if Google did under clock the 6a panel not to cut into its final 6 and 6pro sales and later after the 6 and 6 pro are replaced with the 7 lineup they realeace a patch to enable 90hz on the 6a? I think it's possible.

I wouldn't use it myself, not because of the risk of damaging it but because of the bugs that will come with it which I can't have, specially on my main phone BUT this is very cool! Huge props to the devs and I hope it gets released publicly or at least shown how it works :)

Sony did the same thing on XPERIA X series (2016) onwards! the panel was capable of 120hz (even the midrange Xperia X) but it was locked to 60Hz.

Anyone knows a way to underclock it to 30hz refresh Rate?

I have both the 6 and 6a, honestly the 6a panel looks great, absolutely no need to go through these gymnastics for very very little benefit

Even the phones I had and they offered 90+hz always i switched to 60hz. I don't see any significant difference except when you move thinks is a bit smoother. But who read something when they moving.. I prefer battery over gimmicks.

Hi Damian, Enjoyed the video and it certainly shed some interesting perspectives on why Google have gone for 60Hz instead of 90 for this phone. The phone has from every review I have watched been a very good mid-range phone. So why the outcry for the 60Hz screen? I think it's because people want to pick holes in Google phones. No I don't work for Google and wouldn't want to but Iphone has had 60Hz for an age and nobody complained about that. Yes perhaps Google should have gone for a 90Hz panel but they didn't so why can't we just enjoy a decent mid-range phone instead of finding flaws in everything that comes out. It's not a perfect phone but no phone is, but it does seem to have gotten the favour of many a reviewer, so it can't be that bad can it?

I remember last time i heard overclocking display refresh rate on Android was on Redmi K20 pro, it was 60hz, over clocked to 75hz. and there was not much long term consequences. so I guess 90hz on 6A maybe a little too much, but who knows

If google does push an update to enable 90hz in the 6a ,it will be the most bought phone in 2022 due to its compact size and 90hz

Ooh "buttery smooth"...no thanks, I couldn't care less. Battery life is way more important to me.

I've placed my Pixel 4 from 90hz to 60hz for a better battery. Doesn't bother, longer SOT is still important.

It just seems bad specially when similarly priced phone already offer high refresh rates...so why limit the refresh rate here through software....kinda wack tbh

C'mon man, this is a phone! Nobody will use it for more than two or three years, so for that such OC is acceptable.

Running 90Hz on a 60Hz screen can have two bad effects: 1) This could cause your phone screen led lighting to burn out quicker. You can end up with dead pixels on your screen. 2) This will, obviously, because you are using a higher refresh rate, take a significant hit to your battery life. Is 30Hz more really worth it!? For me, NO! I have the Pixel 6A and I don't really find the screen speed to be very slow at all. I also have the Pixel 6 Pro and, while I can notice a difference between 120Hz and 60Hz, it's not that great a difference unless you're comparing them side by side. But, for those who are nor happy with the speed of things on the Pixel 6A, and you really want to speed things up a bit, the best thing to do is to adjust your Window animation scale, Transition animation scale and Animator duration scale in Developer Options to 0.5x each. This makes the animation and screen transitions feel much faster and won't affect your battery life at all.

It isn't underclocking a 90Hz display, but Google for sure went with a 60Hz display because the Pixel 6 is FHD 90Hz only. If they made the Pixel 6 a FHD 120Hz, still below the 2K 120Hz of the 6 Pro, they would be more comfortable using FHD 90Hz on this. Also come on, using 5 Year old cameras, custom silicon is pretty cheap, and even a 1080p 120Hz display would easily be under budget for this price, we've seen it happen multiple times

Flashing the Pixel 6a with an unofficial OS runs the risk of compromise and or permanently bricking the device.
