I believe Swamp and Island are played competitively.

There really should be feature show called Dream redeemed where these decks get upgraded and they get a second chance.

At 32 mins in (the first game) you had an attack in with the spawn that they had to block with the 8/8. Then just hope they don't get another creature out and you can escape spawn to kill it rather than letting them gain control of it..

Attacking forces your opponent to block it, being at 5, and kill it, making it go to the graveyard and giving you the opportunity to escape it and kill their hexproof kraken, thanks to the sacrifice effect on the gorgon. on the next turn, the opponent played elspeth's nightmare and killed your 2/2, creating a 3/3 and then played the gargoroth, allowing you to remove one of his big threats after killing the shark with mire grasp on your turn, before escaping. At that point, thanks to the gorgon and sleep of the dead, you could've still get a win.

Recently PVDDR talked about Doom Foretold and how people keep puting permanents on the field for Doom Foretold to keep running. He recomended NOT to play more permanents and let the Doom Foretold just go away by itself as soon as posible. Maybe Seth could try that theory into practice and check if PVDDR is right or not.

Gravebreaker Lamia has flavor text that says casting spells from your graveyard cost 1 less. That why you could cast the Charger off 4 mana.

I think playing permanents into a doom foretold is a losing battle; the opponents deck is built around it and can drop supporting permanents into it without much concern. The advantage to doom foretold isn't the payoff, it's keeping your opponents permanents under control while you toss eggs and omens into it.

You need to actualy play six matches with the Meme or Dream decks to get published with them. Call it "the dream match" and only do it for decks that are already 5-0.

I returned to arena couple days before this video was created. I had only few cards, so I just played with what I had - almost all basics. It's hard to play like this. Game 3 I mulled to 5. Almost I forgot about poor internet connection in game one... That being said still congratz to Saffron Olive:)

I used to have a Sultai deck that used this Ashiok. It was great in the deck. I didn't build around it, it just happened to do the things I wanted. I really miss that deck.

When the Asihok one first came out I converted it into a brawl deck, and it was surprisingly effective.

I think this just shows how powerful the escape mechanic is. Having your creatures keep coming back can win you games with card advantage.

Today's intro was very short and simple. It was seth analyzing the probability of how likely it was to draw 15 out of 21 lands in a row. This is labeled "maths with Seth" now that's a series I'd watch.

Before watching this video, I've heard people talking about this on Twitter and now I get to see it in action!

I'd love to see this deck updated with better cards but still based around Escape and Ashioks, but with more Ashioks, better lands, higher overall card quality, interaction, and a sideboard.

I am half way through the video but one thing this deck actually does a good job of doing is giving you card advantage. It isn't direct like drawing cards but almost everything can Escape so you always have a play... kind of a cool strategy I never thought about

This deck actually had some decent synergies. I've actually found that some planeswalker decks play much stronger than you might think just by looking at them. The more aggressive (red or white) perform relatively well in best of 1, especially if they've been upgraded.

I love watching Seth play jank. That first opponent I'm assuming was a newish player and was netdecking so they didn't know how their deck worked.

you know.......when i actually saw this deck on WOTC site and the first thought i had was " this is 100% going on Meme or dream for sure!" :P

I've played some of these cards... in draft. Pharika's Spawn is actually a pretty solid Theros Beyond Death draft card.

I don't think gain lands would be on the table for the pre-con deck since it contains all Theros BD cards or original cards. That would mean that Temple of Deceit is on brand for it though.

It's like that time in Harry Potter when the twins argue they should have scored "above expectation" (or whatever the mark is in english), because just by showing to the exam, they exceeded all expectations.

I saw the deck list, I saw the length of the video, the only thing I could think of is how did anyone manage to get 5 time out wins in a row?

Never underestimate the power of surprise. Most players know the decks they're playing against in a turn or two and have the experience to know how to answer them. At the same time, I see new players posting all the time how they got to mythic only playing for a week or two using a starter deck, sometimes with only a few upgrades. I still think there is matchmaking manipulation for those new players in ranked as well. Most long term players using meta decks go through a long gruelling process all month. The inconsistency in player experiences can't be random or just good luck. If it was only six matches, they still may be under the new player protection when it comes to matchmaking, even if they are playing in ranked. That lasts fifty or so matches from what I understand, so I could see them winning a lot early on against other new players using the starter decks also playing ranked. This is all speculation of course and we will never know for sure. While in ranked I'd also use the same strategy I'd try in unranked. If I was seeing the same couple of decks over and over and not doing very well, I'd switch to a deck that would be a favourable match-up. Guess what? I start seeing completely different decks and never see the decks I changed my deck for again. There is far more matchmaking manipulation going on in every format, regardless of what the developers are willing to be upfront about. Of that I have no doubt.

This was a rough one.

I have always wished devourer of memory was better. Seems like a sick tempo card, but having a consistent way to kill a card or two every turn is hard. Maybe with mesmeric orb in modern?

I thought the intro background was fake until I watched the video.

Suggestion: when a deck does not have a sideboard, add a useless and/or unplayable card so you can at least look at the deck and make a plan for the next games(s)

At some point, people will be playing crazy jank in platinum just to get their decks on this show. Glorious jankvolution

You could add Syr Konrad and shave some of the really bad cards. Not saying it's competitive, but Konny is a fun card and can win games :)

The last opponent, by the look of it, was trying to brew Jund Control with Roiling Vortex as a non-creature win condition vs other control lists, it stops Emergent Ultimatum [basically], and it stops Mono White from getting too carried away with Speaker of the Heavens, which is a card they don't want to waste removal on but would wreck them normally due to them having few creatures and a bunch of 1-for-1 removal [they try offsetting the self-damage with incidental life gain from Binding of the Titans and Mire Triton]. They didn't actually play any cards that were too sus; Masked Vandal is good versus all the Sagas running around, Binding of the Titans is slow but it works with the graveyard subtheme while gaining life, hating on opposing Kroxa, and returning value creatures, Skyclave Shade is good vs Rogues and with the self-mill subtheme, Binding/Kroxa/Murderous Rider/Mire Triton are all solid. Game 2, they mulliganed to 6 and looked like they were flooding out a little [even though we can't see their hand, we can make the inference from their concession] and they fell way behind on board. The deck as they've built it is very much for the meta and, unsurprisingly, it played terribly against something it wasn't prepared for. Also, game 1 they were right to Extinction Event instead of Kroxa. If they did Kroxa, you could attack anyway and put them to 7 with their own Vortex and escape the blocked creature, which would be very uncomfortable since they couldn't Extinction Event away the two drops if they played Kroxa first. If you drew any removal [and they'd already seen unconditional removal], they would be more-or-less dead since they would be at 4 after the attack and be forced to deal with three creatures. I think the Vortex doesn't do what they want it to do in the deck and they should probably look for something else. It might also be that Vortex is a combo piece, since with a Vortex out Tibalt's Trickery and Allure of the Unknown get quite a bit more enticing, but I'm unsure of the efficacy of that. Those do seem in-line with the Jund Control angle, so I could see that being what they were on.

I hope I'm not off on something here, but why in the sam hell did you dot attack with the Pharika's Spawn to theoretically have him have to block it to not die, then you could Escape the PS and make him sacrifice the Hexproof token? You made some huge play errors through the matches where in technicality, you probably should have won.

Is that Ashiok barefoot in the full art?

For what it's worth Glimpse of Freedom is a pretty good tech card against rogues and I've seen it run, but not in any list since Kaldahiem. Arguably rogues have fallen in the meta though.

MTG Goldfish Math channel when? Also I think a lot of the decks that you see that have no sideboards probably have the sideboards removed from the list before submitting. I really would suggest putting some kind of random sideboard plan together, taking budgets into account, because someone playing a Planeswalker deck often doesn't have a lot to work with. So I'd stick to commons and uncommons and maybe no more than 2 copies of any one card.

Win #3 connection error Win #4 opponent on a bad 5 hand. Win #5 ... Yorion pile with mana issues. Win #6 Mono-Red that draws 9 lands is winning on board, and a rage quits anyway...

I don't agree that this deck is horrible. It beat Sultai Yorion - arguably the best deck in Standard - pretty convincingly in a best-of-3 match. And it went 2/5 overall, that's not nothing. If it can keep up a good win percentage against Sultai Yorion, it's actually a decent budget option to compete in more casual Standard events like FNMs.

So Standard is kinda solved right? In the sense that we basically have a rock paper scissors meta? The reason I ask this is because I feel like with Meme or Dream at the moment its basically each deck is a meme and can these meme items do anything in the solved RPS meta (which 9-10 times is no). I bet its just my salty disposition, but it feels like; until we see some of the staple powerful cards cycle we wont really see anything outside of the established norm even have a chance, which makes the concept of Meme or Dream feel extra silly at the moment. Just to be clear I love dream or meme, but standard feels so monolithic; a new set came out and i feel like nothing has changed at all standard wise.

So seth not to plug other creators here but I've been watching mono black magic and he's in platinum or higher at all times. Anyways he faces 100+ card decks and historic decks playing cards like light of hope and life goes on and divination so maybe THATS how this deck got there?? Facing stuff like that? I face nothing but rogues and gruul down at silver so I'm so confused. Either high level arena play is shits and giggles or there's an algorithm making jank combos or planewsalkers decks face similarly powered decks?? Not sure. Be controversial but they did it before with niv decks in brawl so maybe???

At this point, it is as if people are playing crappy decks with no sideboards just to have Seth play them and yell at them, telling them that literally throwing a dart at their collection 15 times would be better than nothing in best of 3.

Someone literally sat down to grind with this to make seth play it. I gurantee you. 6 consequtive wins with this.... Perhaps in 100 matches??? 200???

I think these decks are going 6-0, its not a bug. A kinda-ok deck can beat good decks if you play them well, and a LOT of people play mtga. So weird decks pop up.

Low MMR folks... that explains all these decks. You are matched with people with similar MMRs in ranked. If you have a low MMR (e.g., new/bad player), you sure can go 6-0 with complete jank because you are only facing other people with low MMR.

Seth, baby... I love your work, but i don't understand why in your Games you concede so early... You had 18 and 20 life respectively in match 2 when you conceded. I think the decks on meme or dream aren't optimized or tuned, but this deck actually had a sweet curve for just being a planeswalker deck and I was really excited for you to actually finish the games with it...

Oof, yeah, the editing for time is sorely missed, and it's most clear in the first match where the opponent takes 90 seconds to play 2 lands. This could've easily been a one hour video. :/

I HATE watching Seth play into Doom Foretold the way he does. LET IT GO OFF! It's better than The Abyss. You're doing it wrong. Better to take one turn off, discard one card, give them one card, give them one knight, than to take EVERY turn off because whatever you do gets sacrificed, only to eventually have it go off. STOP IT!

I don't know why but it bothers me when Seth is so dismissive about cards that don't see play.

Arena is rigged ... this is why I've stopped playing it... I have an Abzan Historic deck with 11 wraths and I draw them frequently against control and combo, but almost never against aggro... also when playing 24 lands I often flood, but with 25 I often starve on lands... I also never play red, but 30-40 % of all rares I open are red...

People like this should be reported. Or maybe they should netdeck less and learn how the game works before playing
