A few months ago, Wizards started publishing decklists from Magic Arena. To qualify for publication, a deck needs to win at least six matches in a row at platinum rank or better. This sounds simple on its face, but some incredibly janky lists end up being posted every time lists are published. This has led to speculation that a bug in the system allows decks that didn't actually win six matches in a row to be published or, for the most tin-foil-hatted crowd, the idea that Wizards just publishes whatever it wants, to make the metagame look more diverse than it really is.
This week's deck is probably the most normal we've ever played on Meme or Dream? It's Mardu Knights, with a full sideboard, all of the best Knights in the format, and even four Embercleaves. So, why are we playing such a "normal"-looking deck? There's just one reason: the deck is playing The Circle of Loyalty. If you're not familiar with The Circle of Loyalty, don't feel bad-no one plays it. At this point, it's mostly a literal meme since I picked it as one of the 10 best Standard cards from Throne of Eldraine over things like The Great Henge and Embercleave. Oops! Well, today is The Circle of Loyalty's chance to redeem itself for 18 months of doing nothing in Standard and maybe make me feel a bit less foolish for being so high on it when Throne of Eldraine came out. Is The Circle of Loyalty still a meme, or has it somehow became a dream? Let's find out!

I’m fairly certain that’s a conduct violation. You can report players for intentionally stalling in arena and that’s what I would have done

PenGwen was very clearly intentionally burning the clock. Arena obviously 'allows' this, but it's definitely bad sportsmanship. In paper, this is a slow play violation. If PenGwen is trying to climb the ladder by slow-playing opponents in conceding, that seems like a poor strategy on top of bad ethics. They could play fifty games with mono white or mono red in the same time they are using to slow-play one match with UB control...

It's 100% against the spirit of magic to rope and hope for a frustration scoop. No, it's not against the rules but if it wasn't against the spirit of magic then there wouldn't be a play clock introduced in the first place. Ideally the play clock would make you play as soon as you've identified your line but because there's no way to identify when that happens Wizards has done their best to estimate a reasonable amount of time to give even the slowest players a chance to think it through.

The sad part is in any sanctioned paper event they'd definitely get a slow play warning but because there's no judges the system is so easy to exploit. It's legal cheating and honestly if you have to rope to get wins you just need to stop playing because you're not welcome in this hobby as far as I'm concerned.

The Midnight Clock Opponent: If it were an "in person" event, they would be warned by a judge after their opponent asks them to play at a reasonable speed. If they continue to SLOW PLAY, it's a loss or disqualification. I would know because I've issued these penalties to people before while I was a L2. I have no tolerance for people who intentionally attempt to draw out the game clock for the purpose of gaining an advantage. It's game misconduct.

There's probably enough good knights to not have to go into three colors and focus on two. The tournament grounds doesn't really help things when your double-pip spells aren't knights!

@@PAPP0NE i remenber the day i got the circle, a friend bougth a booster pack and i another one, we played a mini match for a pack exchange. I loose, i gave him the pack i bougth and he gave me his. I got a fires of invention and a vantress castle. He.... He got oko and the white mythic giant board wipe. I feel so fcked that day. Months after on theros release he gave an embercleave a tyramet, chosen of the death and a erebos, god of death. Sorry if my eng its not the best. Im kinda drunk rn xd

the important thing if you do run into one of those opponents and youre going to lose the game, make sure you use all 4 of your timeouts you built up first.

The way they would flip from roping out to playing at a faster pace to get their ropes back made it clear. Slow playing a UB deck seems to be the perfect way to frustrate a player into conceding. Evil really does exist.

I always had the exact opposite reaction to people playing those teferi decks that relied on you conceding. I would sit there, look at every draw for a few seconds, then play whatever I could over and over until they found a way to actually kill me. Almost always ended up going to turns and ruining their tiebreakers for the night, with the goal of making their night miserable until they didn't play the deck anymore. Four FNM's later no one played that deck.

Is Stormfist Crusader a good card? I see a lot of people playing it in decks like these, but as the opponent I'm always kind of happy to see it. If I'm on control I get closer to a board wipe which eliminates all of the extra threats they pulled off of it, and if I'm on midrange my deck will probably generate more value off of those cards due to a higher card quality on average.

Slow play is against the rules in paper magic and Tomoharu Saitou(pro) was banned for intentional slow play. it is a bit harder to enforce since both players have a even split of time on the clock. Yes i do believe that salt roping should be penalized.

Hidden tech for the Sultai Yorion deck is to stick a Reidane as she not only makes their Ultimatum cost nine but she also forces them to pay two mana for each spell they try to play off of it, potentially hosing the unaware player.

Circle of Loyalty seems neat, but you’d think you would want more legendary spells to take advantage of it. Then again, the legendary knights are kinda expensive and don’t really have synergies with the deck. Maybe a The Cauldron of Eternity or two in the sideboard?

I think you should have brought in Claim the Firstborn and Village Rites against the adventures deck. Claim hits many of their creatures, not just Innkeepers, but it also doubles up as more removal. Should have just gone control in that match.

56:20 This topic of "brews" in Standard... This has been the case for most brews in Modern for a while. Pick your colors, standard mana-base, standard 12-16 of the best cards in those colors, and the other ~20 are the cards you want your brew to be about.

I feel like this deck should be just two colors. Aggro and three colors just don't mix well in the current standard. Probably just Boros would be fine. I do like Stormfist Cruisaider though. But it really doesn't help with casting Circle

You could also play just the flip land to splash a single black cost card like crusader. I think the deck went too hard on one color than it should have. 2 comors splashing a third off the flip lands is probably ok though.

Next thing I try to use the changelings for: Circle of loyalty Bant Knights XD I already tried Bant Changeling "Human" Party. Then Bant Angel Party. Then Bant clerics. XD Mono Black elves is also fun :P

@@spawnedfighter Nothing on any website I would have to post them in text form. But I can say that Bant Angels basicly uses all green changelings and the 3 drop that is angel/cleric trible. With a 1/3 for 2 and a 2/3 for 3 that allows you to cast angels or clerics from the top of the deck you have a lot low cost cards you can play from the top and the WU angel wizard can give boardwipe protection. And it basicly uses the non creature party cards. Don't know the number out of the head. Clerics basicly doesn't uses the party stuff and instead goes more in +1/+1 counter support.

Circle of loyalty is a playable card in a knights deck. The issue is that embercleave is better. If the cleave ever had hit the ban hammer I would expect to see 2 circles in all knight decks in standard.

There's different options but generally you just cast a couple of 7 drops. Extra turn card, Valki, a sweeper or whatever else works in the moment. Sometimes you can cast Vorinclex and instant ult a walker. 90% of the time it's enough to win on the spot. Technically not a combo but defo feels like a 'one card combo' at times.

On the topic of slowplay to try and get people to quit out of frustration, I believe it falls under the same category as angleshooting. It is technically legal but is also bad sportsmanship for the purpose of farming wins.

I wonder how the deck would have with Tournament Grounds being replaced with mixture of Basics and Fabled Passages. That seems like probably the best alternative, otherwise you have to use ETB tapped duals. Wrong type of spell issue wouldn't be the problem then.

43min. Vs PenGwen, your question seth: on a Paper ternemant you Call a judge for this. First time He will gets a Warning for stalling and second time He get a game lose for this. This is not fair and nice gameplay. But on mtga, there is nö way to Call a judge.
