As a former 911 dispatcher, it would be awesome if you delivered a tray of cookies or cups of coffee/hot chocolate to your local 911 center! Dispatchers are often forgotten but help just as much as police and firefighters. :)

It definitely is, when I lived in Anchorage I would see kids walking around in shorts and tee shirts when it was -40 and I always wondered why the parents were not making them dress warmer.

You guys put a small on my face. So happy I have you to watch. It is better than a Christmas present. Whatever you do for your acts of kindness, I know it will put a smile on everybodies face and a tear in their eye. My friend paid for an elderly man's groceries when he became confused at the check out counter. It is so nice when people can help others. I think this world needs more of that. Thanks again!

Guy I really enjoy watching you guys you are a blessing to watch a Christian family on you tube I don't miss a video that you put on. I am 62 years old and I have been preaching since Aug 2014 and I traveled all over the east coast and sung southern gospel music but you all keep up with your videos and I will keep on watching and I have told you before that your children is fantastic thanks for what you all do I would love to meet you all in person but that won't happen I am on disability and on a low income so just remember me in your prayers love you guys you feel like family to me again thanks again

I used to volunteer in a nursing home. They love music so if you could find some new or used tapes, they would probably be appreciated. Also, they love getting little gifts. Even things like small packs of tissues wrapped in colorful tissue paper or some lip balm would make the residents very happy as some residents have no family to visit them. Just a thought.

That's a great idea! The residents also like to see the kids. Singing Christmas carols with them is also a fun activity and it doesn't cost anything, but time.

Our family has gone to visit at the nursing home in the past a few times. if I can do it this yr I will... My physical ability has declined the last few yrs so it's harder to do all the things I once loved doing.

@@kathym5307 I would have suggested that also but with Covid restrictions, I don't think many nursing homes would allow that. I know our residents loved any visits by children. One local elementary school used to come by with vases of flowers that they had arranged and go room to room giving them to the residents.

I like the idea of helping someone with their heating bill. Here in Wasilla, we do have natural gas but even so there are some who do not live close enough to the mainline to get it so they have to get either heating oil, propane, or diesel fuel to heat their homes. I'm going to talk with my hubby to see if maybe we can find someone locally who needs help with their heat and either pay the bill or at least part of it. Looking forward to doing this with you this year. I began watching your channel in Dec of 2020 and am almost caught up!

My daughters wanted to start making lip balm, so we been doing that when I’m home, and giving them to a few friends and family. Maybe I could get them some extra product to make a little more and we could hand some out to the shelters. You guys put my spirit in check, and even though we don’t have much, it’s still a sweet little project done by sweet girls. Thanks guys, sometimes it’s hard to stop and be grateful that we are alive, and healthy. That it’s important to help others💙

Hello Somers family. We have been working very hard the last couple weeks here in Florida turning our modular home into a Santa Claus house just like the one there in North Pole., Red stripes and all. I even made a sign for the front of the house that says. SANTA CLAUS HOUSE 101 ST NICHOLAS DRIVE, NORTH POLE ALASKA. We put shelves in the front window and put toys on them to look like Santa's work shop. Sorry to say its 80 degrees here so no heating bill for us. Stay warm . love you guys. Miss Dodie

The fuel cost has risen here in Wales UK too. It is going to be a tough winter for a lot of people. I think this year especially, random acts of kindness however big or small will bring hope and love to those in need. It's just knowing that there are people out there that actually care. Somers family, you truly inspire me as I am sure you inspire many many people. I wear a base layer under my outfit for the day along with thick socks so I am able to keep my thermostat at 61 and it works great. Maybe a gift of base layers, cozy socks and blankets or heated throws could take the edge off of the cold and stretch someone’s fuel resources. Wishing everyone a healthy and safe holiday season!

We got our 1st accumulating snow fall last night here in Black River Falls, Wisconsin..when we bought our land, we bought in a small neighborhood off the river because we wanted to have natural gas..could not imagine how expensive it must be to heat with propane or fuel oil..we have been burning our wood fireplace for weeks & it definitely helps cut down on our heating costs..wishing everyone a happy & healthy holiday season❄☃️🌨😊

Maybe you can adopt a family that is struggling in the Community, buy gifts, maybe a ham or turkey for a Christmas dinner..Take names off the giving tree, buy gifts off that, let each one of your kids pick too

NE Ohio here...first snow accumulation starting today. Looking forward to the beauty.. but hate driving in it! Thanks again for the coverage of Galena. I wish my girls were old enough lol. I have all girls 3 of them and they are 11,5 & 4yrs old. Now I know your gonna say 11 she should be able to wash,Well we tried it and it didn't end well. Lol. She does Fold,hang and put her stuff away but I've spoiled my kids and ughhh I regret it. But were working on it.

I would be freezing in a short sleeve shirt outside but again you are probably used to it. Same when I visited Arizona and I thought 70 degrees was perfect with short sleeve shirt and my daughter was wearing a jacket and said it's cold! you know this is the season of gratitude, we are thankful for the things we have available to us even though times may be tough but God always supplies our needs and as you bless others you will be even more blessed in return. Same here in Ct. Ptopane up 2 bucks a gallon and cord of wood has doubled. I have to order oil next week Im holding my breath waiting for that bill. Im out of work with an injury. Its gonna be a hard Winter. Thank God I prepared. Worried about others. So many have been oit of work so long and have no cushion. Prayers to you all.

Oil here in the outer Hebrides has risen enormously….we don’t centrally heat our house but have a Peat and coal fire in the middle of the living room which certainly makes it feel warm ..we also cook on a Aga which really keeps a chill off the house …

Garage door: Consider a Wifi-enabled opener or module (Chamberlain makes a good one). I have mine set to alert my phone when I leave it open. And it will automatically close a door that I might have forgotten to close. I also have temp sensors in key areas of the house for automated alerting.

I remember in the 1960's to mid 70's, #2 fuel oil was $0.11/gallon (yes, 11 cents/gallon) in Wisconsin. Then OPEC stopped selling oil to the USA, causing fuel oil to increase in cost by $1.00/gallon. That's why we need to produce all of our fuel at home, as we were just 1 long year ago.

Suggestion for random acts of kindness. Contribute to both local and Alaskan village fuel funds for the poor. In some cases you can even give directly. You all benefit from business in the villages, so giving back makes sense.

My Mom just passed away from IPF, she had Dementia too and lived in a Memory Care facility. Ppl with Dementia, loose their taste sensation, all but sweet & bitter. So taking Christmas cookies to a Memory Care facility (not nursing home or assisted living) would be wonderful.

Occasionally our family has made cookies and passed them out at the nursing homes. Many don't have family who visit them sadly, but oh how they love the visit with the kiddos!

I feel you on the costs. We run off of propane. I found our October 2021 fill. We fill twice, sometimes 3 times, a year. We have a small, one bedroom, place. For 80 liters of propane, it cost us $597.62. This was our third fill of the year. In the spring, once we got filled, I kept smelling propane outside. We have 2 tanks and one tank completely dumped because the regulator went on it. So it got refilled once fixed. Thankfully that was only one tank so half the price. Propane is used for heating, cooking and our hot water heater.

My Grandparents had a wood heater. You are so right about seasoning the wood. My grandfather would keep a stockpile. My Nana uses propane and gets delivery like you. She’s noticed and steep increase. I usually pay on her bill for Christmas since never wants anything.

LOL! When your laundry chime went off, I thought, "oh cool, my husband put in some laundry"! Love our LGs. Also, I'm not sure if it's something your fuel companies do up there, but here in New England, we are able to secure our annual fuel at the summer price and pay for it over 10 months. We also have fuel clubs we can belong to that reduce the price even more. For a $45 club fee, we were able to secure our 1000 gallons of propane at $2.20/gal. Current price is $3.73! Might be something your viewers can look into for next summer. Stay warm, Happy Peoples!

I am thankful that I bought 700 gallons of prebuy propane at $2.70 because now it’s $4.17 or higher . Got an extra cord of wood . Usually enjoying cool weather and sometimes even snow by this time in Central Arizona but it still in the high 60’s low 70’s .

Find a local nursing home , you can't go and visit but I found one that the people are asking for pen pals are at least Christmas cards for there people. Love the penpal idea. They had each person hold a broad with name address and things they like. I picked 3 we have same likes. What fun.

So -10F = -23C and Bert is in short sleeves. As someone who lives in the tropics of Australia I find that crazy. Anything below 70F is cold to us

It’s drier in Alaska and that makes some difference. I personally like the cold over the humidity and heat. Once it gets down to minus 50 then warms up to minus 20, minus 20 doesn’t feel as bad as when it first goes to minus temps.

Last weekend at the local coffee shop, hubby left a 20 to pay for however far behind in the drive thru it would go. While he pulled ahead waiting for his order, the owner came out and told him the guy behind him also does the same thing, so his order was free today. Love the random acts of kindness all year round. Thankful for those who can afford to do that all year round. Thank you for all you do for your community!

I think fuel assistance is the BEST idea. My electric bill runs $600 to $700 a month from may until November because we are in good old hot and humid Texas. After that around $350. We have no choices in our city. We have a city owned electric company. We save as much as possible through out the year just for this. I have also heard all the news. I think just basic items would be appreciated 😉happy to see y’all so well

That's one thing I don't miss from North Texas, is city electric. We moved to SW Texas and have coop electric. LP is terrible but electric is reasonable.

Some things are just that same here, (getting dark before 5PM) BUT big difference ,it’s lots warmer, 48 degeees on east coast, but cooling down tonite. Mild temps save on heat.

When I went to rent the place we are in now, my land lord had just had a very bad tenant who wrecked the place. I had to beg him to allow me a shot and proving to him I wouldn't ruin this 130 year old farm house and in fact clean it up for him. One of his arguments against me renting was that this place doesn't have a furnace. It has no electric heat. The furnace it did have was ruined. It had a fuel tank but I get nervous with gas (ex navy fire fighter and maybe just a little paranoid). What it did have a was a wood stove. We put a more efficient wood stove in last year and now heat exclusively with wood. We have about 100 acres of neighboring land that we are allowed to harvest responsibly (diseased trees...fallen trees) from. I have never been more grateful to have a wood stove than I am right now. Trying to get the wood to the house before gas prices hit the roof is my biggest concern. Chainsaws, trucks, woodsplitters...all take fuel. But our sources are close so that's a plus. These prices are insane all around though.

Today is National Random Acts of Kindness Day. I printed out the random acts of kindness calendar from their website for my middle school students so we could try to do more random acts of kindness at school and home!
