I’m plant based for about 1 year now. One question: I know that millet is an approved grain to eat, but recent research states that wheat products are cancer causing, including gluten I would like to have an answer about this. Quinoa is on the no list, as well. Would appreciate some feedback. Thanks.

The real key thing is to not beat yourself up on mistakes. It is to slow down and re-address what happened. Stress, proximity, peer pressure, etc.. It is a slow change for most. The other piece of advice is to get rid of unhealthy temptations at home as soon as possible. If you live with people who eat unhealthy options to have a talk with them to have their own personal junk food area.

I can’t believe it took me this long to fully commit to a whole food plant based diet. I’ve been vegan for almost six years. Going vegan improves my health but I was still carrying around extra weight and was recently diagnosed with being pre-diabetic. Two months whole food plant based and o feel like freakin Superman. I am an avid snowboarder and it’s been amazing to see how quickly my body recovers from riding hard. When my friends complain about being sore, I’m great. I am losing weight because it’s tough to eat enough calories. Read that again. I am having to put in effort to eat enough and not lose weight. I would much much rather have this problem than the problem of tracking calories hoping to not go over. I have dealt with that problem most of my life. I am confident that when I retake my blood work in a couple of months that my levels will be improved. However, I don’t need numbers to know how I feel. It took me a while. I am 37. I am glad I’m here now though. It’s literally never too late.

Anar84 76, what you said are lies. If we all went WFPB, we’d be able to feed all people on earth. What is unsustainable is destroying all the forest and jungles to grow stuff to feed cattles. Second, a WFPB deit, provides all the nutrients one need to live a healthy life. The only thing that is advised is that one take B12. Lastly, most toxins in plants are killed by the cooking process. By the way you're talking, it seems like you're just uninformed.

In my early days doing a whole plant food diet, some friends introduced me to a grain called Hatto Mugi in Japenese. Also known as Job's Tears. Thought I'd share that. I often put a half cup in with 2 cups short grain brown rice, and cook them together. Makes for a nice bite. The Japanese ladies say it's good for skin. Nice. Summary: - Eat foods that you grandmother would recognise (minimally processed) - Not too much - Mostly plants (whole grains, fruits, vegetables, legumes, small amount of nuts) - A vegetarian or vegan diet is not necessarily healthy - needs to be whole foods based - Protein from plants no problem (look at gorillas, protein deficiency is not a thing in developed countries) - Whole food plant based diet has the potential to prevent/ or maybe even reverse some chronic illnesses (e.g., CVD, diabetes)

You have a strange idea of what gorillas eat. Coprophagia is the word for eating shit..and gorillas do this to get the nutrients they desperately require. All apes do. First I want to say that I agree, that a WFPB diet is a great step in.to the right direction. I myself and my fiancé did the certification with T. Collin Campbell. Now, I want to let you know there is no Vegan diet. Vegan is no diet. It is an ethical position. You can‘t impossibly say what a Vegan eats just by its label. But you can say that that person is vegan and eating a plant based diet. A Vegan can also eat a WFPB diet like here propagated. A Vegan can also just eat Raw Veggies and Fruits or be high raw. Vegans are Vegan because they do not want to inflict harm to animals. It’s an ethical decision. It dies not particularly have to do with their own health.

I don’t necessarily disagree with everything in this approach although I eat all the food groups and do not eat highly processed junk food. Robert’s story is inspiring but of course he is an n=1 anecdote. Nothing to say that had he lost the weight without going plant based that he would not have had the same results. If anyone halves their body weight and goes from sedentary to running 5 miles a day OF COURSE they are going to get a whole lot more healthy. If you look through RU-vid you will find videos almost identical videos from proponents of IF, Carnivore, Keto, Sapien, Insulin haters etc all fronted by doctors. The comments sections are naturally filled with super positive comments from supporters or zealots. Why am I raising this? Well because if you want to lose weight realise that there are many ways to achieve this and if you find one that works for you then use it but don’t think it is the ONLY way or that is guaranteed 100% healthy. Try to overcome your brains desire for confirmation bias and check out other systems. Waiting for the haters to respond now….

I would tend to agree with you excepting the crucial importance of eliminating sugars and processed ‘ foods’ I view these as the biggest threats to our health along with sedentary lifestyle…although I would argue that improving health through eliminating sugars and processed foods would lead to better energy and activity. I follow Dr.Li on the Master Class channel he educates on the nutritional values of many foods including some grass fed dairy and meats. This allows for many very healthy choices . I myself follow plant based ( some gently cooked and many raw ), no processed and no sugars ( I do treat myself infrequently to dark chocolate bars). I have maintained , as a 74/yr. woman all of the improvements and advantages that Dr. Lim promotes in his presentation

Excellent video, but it still leaves me with how too. Stats are great and it is a motivator , it would of been nice to lead to books that help with foods that are expectable and maybe a few ways to prepare the meals etc, but overall and thank you for your opinion and this is mine , this has been one of the best videos I have watch to date. All the best.

Excellent! Not presented in a IN YOUR FACE video on eating right. So right it is on point. Sharing with my "almost vegetarian" daughter and "not at all" son. I'll work on the son. LOL

With all due respect to Dr. Lim, I am banking my health more so on one who has spent their professional career operating on arteries, opening them up and seeing the clogged pathways first hand, and then having a desire to research what is trashing them, I'd say that's where my money is than one who has never been a Cardio Vascular Surgeon. Find out and keep reading and watching videos like I did on the endothelia cells (inner cell wall lining of the artery) and nitric oxide and the role it plays and you won't regret it.

In my opinion the root of our troubles is our greed is good capitalist culture. Big pharma, junk food industry, advertising, the military industrial complex, fossil fuels, industrial farming, etc. I think we need a big change to our culture or we’ll face a bleak future.

Plant-based for the planet, vegan for the animals. Veganism is a philosophy, not a diet. You can (and should, if you want to be healthy as well as kind) be a vegan who follows a whole foods, plant-based diet. Wish more people got this distinction

My friend you are a scholar in your fields of study I'm sure, but your description of what a vegan is contradictory of many other natural health foods experts, and certainly my first to ever hear it put this way and I think if you Google it they tell you differently also.

Grains and starchy vegetables without butter, other fat or meat are plain, unsatiating and the glucose energy is delivered and expires quickly. Other plant eating animals have a longer digestive system where fermentation can take place. Very little of fermentation products is absorbed by a human in the large bowel. Most traditional meals have always mixed macros, potato, grain or bean as the base, such as potato salad with sausage and cream, or pasta with olive oil, but now one diet camp calls for removal of the grain, and the other for the fat. They both might be on to something. Grain for me is a fast convenience food. Lasts for years. Just pour out and boil for a fixed length of time, and flavor with something.
