I’d like to hear the arguments on the need for protein intake. As far as I can tell, Layne advocates for extremely high protein diets, and Plant Chompers is more on the Dr. Greger camp (I.e., reduce protein intake to the dietary recommendation of 0.8 per kg)… I’m thoroughly confused

I love my omnivorous, well-balanced, mostly whole foods diet, that does include some more processed food products, and the occasional highly-processed, hyper-palatable food products; therefore, as long as the normies and carnivores and vegans all allow for the food market to carry my diet staples, then I'm good.

@CryptoKeeper36
@CryptoKeeper36 2 года назад
Hi. I am a biochemist. I can touch on this, but I am not an expert. Take what I say with a grain of salt. I am a stranger:) 1. Mercury - hard one to answer. It depends on where you live, do you mean canned fish or fresh, what type of fish etc etc. Lots of variables. I can say it would take ALOT of high-level mercury fish to get mercury poisoning. Certainly possible, if you like eat 3 cans of tuna a day or something. But fish as a regular part of the diet, in moderation. Not a concern. 2. I actually have MS, so I have looked into this. It is basically false. There are certain papers or articles from far in the past that haunt science, and this is one. The pork/MS theory comes from a paper from 1986. It doesn't hold up as more data became available. Canada has the highest rate of MS per capita in the world but it isn't even in the top 15 when it comes to pork consumption per capita. 3. MASSIVE difference between Omega 6 and 3. A typical western diet has far too much Omega 6 and that isn't good. It also has far too little Omega 3. Omega 3 and 6 are used by the body for different things. The naming is confusing and make them seem very similar.

I did STRICT 18 month long plant ONLY based diet; Low protein, high carb, low fat. My cardio workouts were very good, but I looked horrible and everyone told me so. I lost a lot of fat and a lot of muscle. My hair started to really shed...and I was becoming depressed and experienced a lot of mind fog, along with heart PVC's, which I no longer experience now that I'm off the Plant based diet.. I learned a LOT from the Plant based diet. I've learned to incorporate MORE plants and good vegetables in my diet now...but, a little meat or whey protein now and again is a good idea.

Have you ever read Eat to Live? If so, I think it could be interesting to hear your thoughts on why your opinion on overall health varies some from that book. One of the main points made in the book is in regards to meat and dairy consumption. The book claims that meat and dairy consumption correlate heavily with some of the diseases you mention in this video (namely cardiovascular health). The book recommends a maximum of 1 or 2 servings per week of meat and/or dairy. Just throwing it out there, I've been following the advice of that book and my body is transforming just as the book said it would. I went from being on the cusp of diabetic to having within range of normal blood results in just 2 months. I was also able to pick up physical exercise beyond my imagination from just a month ago (capable of running 10kms and such in under a month of running training). I do enjoy your videos and your thought process and presentation, which is why I bring this topic up. I would value your opinion, as I am sure others would too, in comparison to a health strategy that I know to be working (at least it is working for me *shrug*).

"The book claims that meat and dairy consumption correlate heavily..." Those claims are based on very poor evidence, questionnaire based correlation studies. There are NO causation studies to back up that claim. That's the problem with the plant versus meat argument, there are overwhelming studies to back up plants, but they're all correlation studies, or study meat eaters who also eat plenty of carbs. In other words, the studies are next to useless because there are no studies just looking at meat eaters, not omnivores. Humans have eaten mainly fatty meat for 100,000s of years. To believe that meat is suddenly bad for us is laughable.

I don't know if it is a good or bad thing but I just went off of carnivore after following this diet for 8 months after watching some of your video's. So yesterday I ate junk... sugar, carbs...etc... and woke up this morning and pooped easy for the first time in 8 months! Feel like I have more mental clarity as well today. Not that eating the crap food was good for me but think my body definitely needed the carbs and fiber no matter how my body got it at this point! I am very thankful for the carnivore diet as I did get my blood sugars down to normal on it and am no longer pre diabetic. also lost 60 pounds on it. But I think that you are absolutely right that it should be used as an elimination diet and that is all. I'm happy I realized that this was something that I probably should not do for the rest of my life. So today will be meat, maybe eggs, some veg and fruit and will see how I do with that. @sportysbusiness
@sportysbusiness 3 месяца назад
Actually, the WHO claims red meat is a 'probable' carcinogen. And that 'probable' link is statistically insignificant and based on very poor epidemiological questionnaire based studies. When you realise that the study classified a meat pizza as red meat, and asked participants to remember how many meat pizzas they ate over the last 10 years, the data is worthless. Same for burgers, hot dogs etc as we know that processed carbs (ie the base/bun and sauces) are the problem, yet the meat gets blamed.

I'm sure you can do well on both, but I read a few studies where it is protein consumption (not necessarily calorie consumption) is associated with increased mortality. The more animal protein you eat the shorter your life span. This isn't to say animal protein is bad. I eat a lot of meat. But the studies said lysine and methionine and some other amino acids that I forgot that were most closely associated with higher risk or mortality. I think it's similar to a lithium battery...if you use the battery more and more with a lot of discharge and recharge cycles it shortens the battery life. How are they improving if fiber is so important? Would you say all these cases are just exceptions or they're straight out lying? The problem with these studies is that they're always looking fiber diets against junk diets. Yes, replacing junk food with fiber rich whole foods will give you health improvements but that doesn't mean fiber is "so important". Hello, I am a pharmacy student. I think this is a great question. If I'm not mistaken (and if I am please feel free to correct me), heating proteins will "denature" them; heat will change the shape of a protein. It will not remove the amino acid "building blocks" that make up said protein. In the acidic environment of your stomach though, pepsin will break apart the peptide bonds (the connections that hold amino acids together to form a protein), but the amino acids are still there. Amino acids then get absorbed in your small intestine. Essentially, bioavailability of amino-acids should be equal whether you are heating proteins or not. Heating proteins should not influence the bioavailability of the amino acids you want to absorb from them. For anyone looking at this answer, if I am wrong feel free to correct me (ideally with sources). Hope this helps. -Thank you. P.S. I think there's actually an argument to be made that cooking meat decreases the energy required to digest it. I'm not too sure about this, but if this is the case then heating the proteins in meat could lower the energy required to absorb amino-acids. I don't think this counts as INCREASING bioavailability though. I'm not too sure about this last statement though, so take it with a grain of salt.
@BaresarkSlayne
@BaresarkSlayne 2 года назад
There is this idea that the studies around this concept only tested uncooked plant protein. That isn't true, both cooked and raw were checked in most, if not all, of the studies. From my understanding, the bioavailability was pretty much the same in both groups.

@@manuelmontouliu830 You are, respectfully, incorrect. But only because your knowledge seems incomplete. So, you can't just consume amino acids and your body uses them. The protein for your bodies use actually has to have it's proper shape (protein folding) in order for it to be utilized by the human body. Like, if you buy a big sack leucine, you can't supplement your leucine needs with this, your body actually functionally breaks down different complete proteins and takes what it needs. So, whey protein isn't just a bunch of amino acids from whey, it's actually formed proteins from whey. When you look at the amino acid breakdown, that is what your body can take and use from a protein source. If you have ever baked chicken you have seen that gross white stuff that comes out of it (spume). That is denatured protein. If you were to eat that (which you can) your body cannot actually utilize any of those amino acids. When something in denatured, as the name implies, it loses it's "nature", that is the function of what it does. When you denature a protein, you are breaking it's bonds and turning into simple amino acids, which cannot be utilized by a human body because it's not made to process protein as simple amino acids. Think about it this way: You eat protein to get protein. Imagine you have a machine that is designed to only take ping pong balls that are connected by little sticks. So you get these little things and you throw them in and out the other side you get two separated ping pong balls. For reasons of this demonstration, someone is at the end and this is the only way to get them their desired product, and the process is time consuming, it takes a minute for each little connected pair. You say to yourself, "it would be much faster if just pull them apart myself and throw them into the machine". But when you do this, they don't come out the other side because the machine isn't designed to pass individual ping pong balls, only paired ones. The human body is much like this. It's designed to breakdown proteins and extract the amino acids it needs. There have been studies demonstrating that bioavailability of amino acids (vs proteins), is non-existent.

@HB-zt1ed
@HB-zt1ed Год назад
There are two possibilities. Option A: There is no consiousness, only a mechanical world. Therefore killing animals is ethical no problem (because they are only machines). Option B: The fundamental basis of everything is consiousness. Therefore killing animals is ethical a problem (because they are consiousness sentient beings). But: in this case, also plants have consiousness. How can you know that they feel less than animals? Just because animals are more similar to us than plants would be a very bad argument. And therefore you are not allowed to kill them either. This would mean that you have to starve an die (or maybe just eat fruits that have fallen down from a tree - but also they could still have counsiousness and feelings.) If you think on all this from a ethical perspective, there is only one conclusion: If you want to survive you have to hurt living beeings. Life is hurting others. This does probably not fit at all in the wonderful worldview of many vegans, but it is the sad philosophical truth. To live you have to hurt other beeings...

Plant based foods are no less harmful to animals and may actually cause more harm. Millions of insects, birds and rodents are deliberately poisoned to protect plant crops for human consumption. Using pesticides and herbicides are killing ecosystems because it's killing off the foods that animals eat. In England bird populations in rural areas have halved in contrast to a 17% reduction in urban areas. Petroleum based fertilisers cause pollution in waterways from run-off, killing ecosystems in lakes, rivers and oceans. Sediment run-off is also a big problem, contributing to the deaths of underwater ecosystems. The way we cultivate food is not good for the environment.

But food is one of the biggest pleasures in life, and most humans (if being honest) will tell you that there are few things more delicious than a well-prepared steak or some fresh sushi. Asking people to give up on one of their major sources of happiness does not seem like a wise plan IMHO. I'd rather live till 70 with my current omnivorous diet than gamble on gaining 5 more years by having to give up one of my favorite things in life. You can't get heme iron from a plant based diet and you can't get as much cholesterol as your body needs compared to eating saturated fat, which your brain ALSO needs to run well. Most of the nutrients in plants are locked in and CAN'T BE DIGESTED, unlike meat. You ALSO don't need fiber for your digestive system nor do you need to poop nearly as much as almost ALL of the food you eat is digested when eating carnivore. Plus you have FAR LESS inflammation from the poisons and toxins that plants naturally produce in order to protect themselves since they also don't like to be eaten. The ACTUAL research not bought by Kellogg's and Pepsi Co clearly show that saturated fat is GOOD and needed as the primary fuel source for humans and that we absolutely DO NOT NEED carbs as fuel, let alone it be our PRIMARY fuel source. I'm an omnivore who eats all kinds of fruit, vegetables, whole grains and mostly fish and whey for protein, after each meal I have a fiber chaser, a Shaker with water, wheat bran, oat bran and sugar free psyllium powder. Carful though, introducing fiber into the diet must be gradual at first.
