I saw that hole...paid too much attention to it and forgot to check out the Sisso. Too much to observe for a first visit, so next time. Thanks for the help , Deepah has a world of knowledge and wonderful help picking out trees!
Good Video. From what I have observed Mango trees will grow in poor sandy soils but seem to do better in a good dark soil rich in organic material. Dark soils also have better water retention.
What about California's native clay? Should I just use/mix in 50% sand and 50% native clay in the planting hole? I feel like this might be too heavy for the roots and the tree would suffocate. I also heard mango's prefer slightly acidic soil. Would peat moss work well in the hole? Mango's can be a little specific with their planting hole needs here in SoCal.
I’ve only killed 1 out of 7 mango trees from shamus and the only reason the one died is I transplanted it from a pre planted location. So the 1 out of 2 relocated mangos didn’t make it.
Shamus can provide you with the trees and foliage, you should consult with Jay Barringer, has a channel called "yes it will grow here". He is a landscaper by trade and specializes in food forest.
